  1. I am glad to see this. I was thinking about starting a thread on why we havn't seen anything about upcoming DCA evaluations. Hopefully we will hear from the Florida group or groups soon to see how DCA South will be shaping up this year.
  2. They are interviewing the 2 marchers from England on the Drum Corps Europe championship feed. They don't sound angry at all and seems that it turned out to be a good summer after all.
  3. I had thought that last year, when 2 top 10 corps were from ATL. and there is also a DCI Corp in town so there might be a sizable crowd to be attracted. Not sure how many alumni Corps would make a trek like that though. Hopefully next summer instead of 3 corps doing the DCA south thing there should be a Florida corps back in the mix and possibly another Corps so it could be $10 for 5 Corps. As for comparing the Winston Salem debacle of 11 years ago to championships that was a mid season contest with maybe 6 corps, and the host Corps had only been around maybe 4 years plus the weather was horrible. In the past 11 years a lot more folks in the south have been introduced to DCA. In 1999 or 2000 Crown had a free show in Columbia SC and Corpsvets did an exhibition, No one down there had ever seen a Corps with older folks in it. Now every year 20k folks (actually maybe 10k that early) get to see Corps at DCI ATL, and as Dan noted their booth is flooded with folks asking about DCA and how weekend Corps work. So I think DCA actually has a much better shot in South now than it did 11 years ago. However as many people have said many times someone has to take the time and some risk to put together a bid and prove it to DCA.
  4. maybe the Buccaneers secret is that they have their own day, "Talk like a Pirate Day" If there were make latin love day then Cabbies might take it.
  5. I am surprised that a corps especially out of the NY/NJ/PA/CT area doesn't do a 2 year plan. Make the most technically difficult show possible and just go to one or two shows the first year of the show, get your butt handed to you in scores, and get good critiques, but don't do it in front of the crowd that will be at DCA the next season. Then that off season start camps in September perfecting the same show and in June everyone will be chasing you all season even if you lose half your practice time that season on bus rides to DCA territory, which would be paid for by the money you saved not going to Rochester the previous year. With 2 years to work on it you should have a technically brilliant very difficult show mastered.
  6. The Kidsgove plan once every 2 or 3 years could be a good model if the West Coast corps got up and going again, I think they would be appreciated on each trip and it makes more finacial sense. Though they were gone a few years they were in no way out of the mix or out of style.
  7. Still having a tough time adjusting to new cabbies uniforms, looking at the DM's spent 2 min trying to figure who was between Kidsgrove and the Bucs
  8. Most years the 11th place seems illogical. However I think this year with Kidsgrove the 11th place corp will still be a full member corps since KS cannot be a full DCA participant. I don't know if that means anything these days, but 20 years ago that was a big deal.
  9. I like the street beats everyone is marching in and out with. brings back good memories
  10. hearing Reilly Raiders early in the morning reminds me of when I was a kid from about 5 to 10 years old when my dad would put on old Reilly Raiders, Hawthorne and Archer Epler records make me and my sisters get bugles from the basement and march for 30 minutes before breakfast. Unfortunately after marching to Reilly Raiders cadence this morning mom didn't have breakfast waitng for me.
  11. Gold's penalty was being under time.
  12. Not being there just watching online I can't really make a knowledgeable statement about the scores. I am kind of glad to see CV move up, though I thought fusion was pretty good.
  13. That was good, makes you realize the limitations of watching the stream from home though. There is so much going on every time the camera zooms in one place you miss something somewhere else.
  14. The only movement I am thinking is that CV may have topped white sabers. I think Sun and Gold may be a toss up for 9th or tenth. Unfortunately Bush Hurcs and Sky may be out.
  15. I love all the Carolina Blue on gold's uniforms and drums this season Go Gold !!!
  16. I really liked the Hurc's show. The brass sounded good and blended well with the drums. The guard seemed well synched to the show also. However the movement on the field was slow by modern standards. Walking instead of running around the field. The Corps was a little smaller than in the past also. But it sounded great to me.
  17. I think it shows that DCA Corps are doing well that that show is seeded 12th. However parts of it just seemed a little off. I liked the simplicity since Bush seems to go overboard on props sometimes, but things seemed a little off and no wow moments to me.
  18. One small criticism of 2 young corps Sky and excelsior, get someone to hem your pants, maybe it is the military in me, but seeing baggy lumps where the pants bunch up around the shoes drives me crazy. The corps are doing good things, but that really makes me lose concentration on the rest of the show. Other than that Sky much improved over last year especially in drums though a little smaller.
