  1. Actually I was going to eat at Dino'. BBQ last year, but I had just walked passed the building looking at the dam and the street peoples outhouse was directly behind it. I got grossed out when I got a good whiff of it.~gags~and left. But I am intrigued enough to try the ribs this year. I just won't wander down the street behind it. LOL Heads up!
  2. How about a poll of how many of us will be in Rochester. We could put our heads together.
  3. Speaking of drum corps recordings. DCI Finals for this year will have a buzzing in the background from the lights in the stadium. I thought it was the feedback from the amplification but it was the lights. It was horrible. I truly hope it doesn't come thru on the recordings, but I doubt it.
  4. Dad didn't join the Rebels till 1968, but he may have arranged for them prior to moving back east. Not sure.
  5. Take it from someone who knows. If you have any joint or tendon problems, think twice. You'll be seeing alot of your doctors in the future. My body will never be the same and I didn't even finish the year out! I bailed before the second competition. DCA corps are not the slackers that DCI would make them out to be. Rehearsals are exciting but exhausting. People over 40 are taking serious risks to their health. But ya know what? It's worth it! LOL 'd do it again. Having never competed on that scale before, I surprised the heck out of myself. I still can't believe the stuff I learned and did in that guard! My Dad would have been so proud of me.
  6. I don't recall the Rebels playing Ebb Tide. The list in my blog is whatever I found in Dads paper files. I still haven't gotten around to seeing what he has in his computer files. He had 1 Mac computer that he did everything on. With dial up no less. So using it is like a huge test of patience. His Finale program was on there to. Hurry up and wait! Lots of times Dad would arrange something for a corps and not keep a copy for himself. I found lots of arrangements missing when I cataloged it. Ya gotta remember, I heard him arrange all his music at home before he got a computer. I like to joke that I learned the music before anyone else. I was truly disappointed to not find many arrangements that I loved and remembered from childhood.
  7. My picks Children of SanChez Overture-Gypsy Overture-Man of LaMancha Overture Porgy & Bess Malaguena Malaga One More Time Legend Of The One Eyed Sailor I've Got You Under My Skin Harlem Nocturn Impossible Dream It Had To Be You
  8. I put in a call to the Marine barracks today. To get a link to the archive in Quantico. As soon as I have a link I'll need something exact to request from them. So lets decide on something soon.
  9. The music I have available to me is listed in my myspace. Check it out and let me know what scores you might be interested in, so I can get them.
  10. I heard this morning that the dams above the bridge are cutting back the flow of water.
  11. Funny, but as soon as I heard about the bridge collapse, I wondered what corps were in the area. Were any of our drum corps family involved?
  12. Yes, the Royal Airs are still up and running. I had a great time out there, visiting with the corps. It was especially cool playing more of Dads music. It was some of the most difficult music I've played since I began almost 3 years ago. I am about to list all Dads music in myspace. So that if you need any, you'll know what there is.And what scores there are which is alot! The scores are all in a Marine Corps archive in Stafford Va.Quantico Marine Corps Museum. My fathers wishes were for it to be given, free of charge, to corps or schools with no money. I'm so glad the Royal Airs are still alive and well. Mike Margraf is doing an outstanding job as brass instructor with the corps. He taught me a great deal. His warm ups really work well. We had an all day camp and I never lost my lip. Seeing as how I never had any ,one on one, instruction. My trip out there was invaluable. Thanks again for having me in your line. Lets do mini corps in Harrisburg and at DCA finals, next year!
  13. Hi Dave, I was just referring to a few people that I know, who are not marching right now, because they can not do drill and they can not memorize the music. There is also the matter of the amount of $ it costs to join.
  14. I am so very happy to hear that Barbara is recovering so well. The power of positive thinking, works Fran. That and faith. Don't let fear control your life. I talk from experience. Fear and sadness are useless, wasted emotions. LOL On a lighter note... Your drum corps family, are praying for you both and sending all kinds of good wishes your way. You are both loved and appreciated.
  15. It's all about the performance, musicianship and the MUSIC arrangements. If you have all of the above it doesn't matter what you call the group. Past failures shouldn't matter. They are cool names.~grins~
  16. Hey Jeff I was wondering when I'd see you in this thread. LOL Here we go again!
  17. How about, Rising Tide Cross Wind Bay Tide Bay Sound Bay Shores Bay Brass Delta Force (My sons idea) DelMarVa Force( Donny again LOL)
  18. Junior corps is something all young people should experience. Go for it! Don't look back years later, crying your shoulda, woulda, couldas. Accept any position. Do not be a prima dona! They will recognize whether you have what it takes or not. If you can afford it and have the opportunity to spend that much time at rehearsals and on the road. Do it! But when you age out, it is not over. There are many, All age corps and Alumni corps, to choose from. (HEY!) Don't you be looking down your noses at All age and Alumni! One day they will be all you have. Drum corps gets in your blood!!!!!!!!! All age corps are great for when you have a job or are starting a family. Or just can't afford Jr. corps. I grew up in a drum corps family and we traveled to rehearsals and contests as a family. Always. Noone ever complained. It was a remarkable way to grow up. In all-age and alumni you will find friends to car pool and share rooms with, cuts costs. Alumni corps are great for all the above and when your body is not working so well anymore. Accidents happen. Life catches up with all of us. People end up in wheel chairs. Stuff happens! WARM UPS! Take care of your bodies. Every sprain and break you get is gonna give you trouble one day. This is truth! Every repetitious movement is gonna hurt like a ,female dog, when your older. WORD! ,Joint replacement. Your elders didn't have the knowledge that you do now. Use it! Drum corps will be there for you, for the rest of your life. You are all young and strong and your minds are still like sponges. You will one day be old and arthritic and you will still feel the way you do now.Emotionally. But to me, drum corps is all about entertaining! Making that audience, jump up and roar. Or want to cry like a baby To play spectacular music that your audiance can relate to and make life long friends. Competition is just secondary. Remember you are playing for your audience! It's them you have to convince to want to come back and spend $ and time to see you play. I think that's about $2.oo worth. LOL Sorry, I get carried away. I just hate the thought of people not knowing all of their options. Drum corps has it's roots in the military and WE do, as the military does, TAKE CARE OF OUR OWN.
  19. It's not just the fans. I remember the last year at Scranton I was up near the breezeway and some corps members were running off at the mouth during someones show. I kept asking them politely to please be quiet but they didn't listen. I asked them about 4 times finally I let them have it. Full blast. Still no effect. hmph drummers!
  20. ~chuckles~ That's just, to funny Marty.
  21. I was born into a drum corps family. My father sat us by the stereo as soon as we were brought home from the hospital.Tradition. We grew up in rehearsal halls around football fields and camp grounds. Lets not forget the hotels, buses, restaurants, legions and posts. There was never a time that we ever complained about having to pack up to travel during the weekends of the spring and summer. We all loved watching our fathers corps compete. We truly loved the activity. It was our way of life. Drum Corps Gypsies. If you give this gift to your children, believe me, they will get just as much of a thrill out of seeing their father perform as I did. Just remember ear protection! LOL My hearing is not so good. It must have been the rehearsal halls! LOL I loved to watch my father teach. If you can't devote the time or $ just yet for competition, find an alumni corps for the time being. I believe in starting kids on interments early. Elementary school. Their minds are like sponges. Always be positive. Every mistake is a lesson.
  22. I would like very much to see a mini corps become active in the Delmarva area. I have always wanted to compete in drum corps. Mini corps is my only option at this time. Music Express in N.J. Is also topying with the idea.(food for thought) I live near Annapolis. If there are any of you interested in M.E. We're looking for additional players. Car pool! It only costs $5.00 a rehearsal. Plus $10.00 for car pool
  23. I was never able to march when I was growing up because we followed my fathers career. I watched him turn champions into many corps. I grew up around these corps and always felt a part of the group. Now I am making a childhood dream come true.My kids are grown and I have a chance to fulfill those childhood dreams. Playing my Dads music. Now, how do you think I would feel, if I was told, Alumni only? The Yankee Rebels admitted me with reluctance, I admit, seeing as how I never played an horn before, but I proved to them I had it in my blood. Just recently I traveled out to Chicago and rehearsed with the Royal Airs and did 2 parades with them as well. The Men of Brass also allowed me to rehearse with them. I had such a great time playing, my fathers music. I would have been crushed if I had been turned away. Lots of people I know in the activity join certain alumni corps just so they can play the music that inspired them, even when it was played by the compatition.
  24. I grew up with a number of different drum corps families. These days I see, all of drum corps, as family. I don't see us as, Us and Them. We are unique individuals who share a passion and life style. DRUM CORPS
