Being a Cobb County band parent myself, I can attest that although many parents of programs like Lassiter, Harrison, Kennesaw Mountain etc. are your garden variety parents(my kid is in the band or something, I know they are at the school an awful lot) There are many parents within those programs(as in any of the top BOA programs) that are very in-tune(pardon the pun) with the organizational mission and goals of the enitre organization. That buy in it from the parents is what helps fuel the mission, and makes it possible for groups like those to do the things that they do(even if from only a logistical standpoint) Like alot folks here, I can be quick to dismiss the complaining of a student or even a group of students as growing pains attributed to change, however, I would not to be so quick to assume the parents as uniformed as some might suggest. I would not be surprised to find out that some of these folks had an issue with the hire right from the beginning. It doesn't necessarily make them right or wrong, but you can best believe when we lost our director a few years ago, I (as well as many parents) were very interested an engaged with the admistration as to who the possible candidates as his sucessor were. Not to suggest we were part of the decision making team, but the adminstration seemed to be honestly appeciative of the active interest that parents were taking.
