  1. Sounds like Bloo is already onto something here. Given the activity is indeed quite insular, do you think guard judges are currently prepared to assess and reward increased diversity of movement techniques/styles if outside that studio jazz norm [assuming most corps derive movement from that -- I honestly don't know?]?
  2. Please thank him for me [and for all of us!] -- I believe you've previously said he is brass? There's nothing like playing a Bocook book. šŸ„°
  3. It's an interesting thought, though I'm strongly in the "keep drill" camp. I wonder if staffs ever study their competition in this way: what variety and skills were demonstrated, how many different types of effect created, etc, and then try to integrate/outmaneuver in their next program? I've written for band and paid close attention to our competitors, but at that level never had a need to get that granular.
  4. As I said in the 2023 topic, I'm happy to eat crow. This season brought more success than I thought possible at the outset. It was incredible to witness the growth and see such strength across all captions back. And more importantly, it sounds from those with kids in the corps this year that they had a great summer. Thank you for providing such great entertainment this season and congratulations on your well-earned 5th place: your highest score and placement since 2015! It's clear there's something special happening here, and 2023 - like 2022 - is going to provide a strong foundation from which to tighten design and grow performance levels into 2024...
  5. I'm happy to eat crow: this season brought more success than I thought possible at the outset. It was incredible to witness the growth and see such strength across all captions back. And more importantly, it sounds from those with kids in the corps this year that they had a great summer. Congratulations and thank you Cadets on your well-earned 5th place, both your highest score and placement since 2015! Can't wait for 2024...
  6. Thank you Madison for your moving tribute to Dan Acheson tonight. MYNWA is always emotional, but in service of an alum and celebration of Dan's leadership over the years made it even more impactful. It was great to see you at Finals, but it would be even better to see you in Finals. I don't have any association with Madison aside from believing DCI is stronger with them in the top 12. For 2024 let's have an honest and passionate discussion about what the corps needs to do to get where we all want them to be, but the circular rantings of "snakes", "dictatorships", "tyrants" and "regimes" by some can take that echo chamber someplace else: it's not welcome here. 2024 Staff Announcement: TBD 2024 Tour Announcement: TBD 2024 Program Announcement: TBD
  7. Last offseason, The Cadets moved from the "east of their youth, to the west of their future" and navigated significant changes to administrative and instructional staff. With the relocation to their new home in Erie PA now under their belt and a phenomenal season behind them, The Cadets are poised to continue rising in 2024 and beyond. 2024 Staff: TBD 2024 Tour: TBD 2024 Program: TBD Let the discussion begin!
  8. I know what brought you to DCP was something entirely different, but just wanted to thank you for your guard critique, your voice and perspective is refreshing to us non-guard folks!
  9. I would LOVE to find out how their experience this summer in each of their respective corps compared/contrasted to their season in 2022 SCV. So much valuable perspective to be shared and learned from with this group.
  10. This Troopers opener approaches similar levels of tension/release to - dare I say - Star '93.
  11. Many have commented on this, and I think the slow transformation is not only accurate to the absinthe ritual but an effective design choice: it's so gradual that we get to the end and wonder "when did that happen?"
  12. Welcome back, BK! This show has grown tremendously over the season and I wasn't sure it had the legs to get them back in Finals, but am so glad it came together. Looking forward to this new admin and design/instructional team gelling over the next few years!
  13. D'oh - absolutely not intentional. Mandarins are on fire this season! Updated. šŸ˜ƒ

  15. Anyone else think that one Boston opener battery hit sounds like ā€œPadam Padam Padamā€? šŸ˜†
  16. One of the great mysteries of this season! The ā€œSā€ formation in the ballad really distracts me.
  17. I'm with you. Root them all out. I have no skin in the game other than wanting to see an SCV back on the field safer, healthier and stronger than before; whose success is not built on the backs of members beaten down in the name of tradition and ego. I, too, know of someone who marched and experienced many of the same things mentioned earlier by several in this post. It's unacceptable, and the financial and organizational mismangement only compounds it.
  18. Amen! Sadly, it is abundantly clear that the sole purpose of the poster to whom you are replying is to defend and protect the status quo with no commitment to curiosity or objectivity. Two things can be true at once.
  19. To be honest, maybe you would be best served by taking a step back from commenting until you take some time to learn more about victim-survivors, whistleblower policy, and even DCP itself. @scheherazadesghost does an admirable job of educating folks as she goes, but that's not actually her burden to carry.
  20. Has that been confirmed? I recall you or someone else earlier this season making the link, but because of the varying heights of the prop poles it feels like a stretch to me. Regardless, the members and staff are knocking what they have out of the park and that is the Cadets I know. Have an incredible show tonight, Cadets!
  21. Of all the threads to troll on, this isnā€™t the one. Show some respect if not to the other posters, than to the seriousness of this conversation.
