WHAT !!!! We dont have "marching" out there on the field.... I believe a company front would be considered marching... are you discfribing the early years of DCI...? There is definately maneuvering out there.... like you trying to justify this point... any "pass-thru" you may have seen or done WAS Maneuvering... sorry

Thinking you are confusing the word "BUGLE" and "BRASS" mixed up.... for that reason, that is why it is drum and BUGLE corps.

hey there... we're not agreeing again today.... this 15 year old ....trying out for a drum corps KNOWS that this organization consists ofcertain brass instruments......... and no, sax is not one of them... this kid KNOWS what drum and BUGLE corps is..... he doesnt realize that this organization is WHERE IT IS TODAY BECAUSE OF STERN RULES ON THE WORD BUGLE. Corps said...." these are the bugles we play.............. and lets get you practicing on one of them... " Thats what I would hope a kid steming out into the music world - looking into D&B... would realize.......

Seems to me that this 10.. lets make him 15..right at the age of trying out for a corps.... knows what drum and BUGLE corps is... This just may be a scenerio... but hey... It says alot !!!!! With all that kids today have to choose from, as compared to those in their late 20' to whatever age now......... to keep this aspect of the music would, they need to know that this a drum and bugle corps...... meaning bugle.. as in bflat or G ... as in trumpet/french horn/trombone/baritone/tuba/flugelhorn/melo...whatever... to keep this kid interested in this outlet... lets just keep this activity AS IS ! imho....

True....my personal belief is that you shouldnt boo a child.. or anyone for that matter.. That is not an adult way to approach this ordeal. Again... for a drum and BUGLE corps to use ww (during their timed appearance on the field) I would boycott that corps in every way I could.. no souvies from me.. very light semi-hearter clapping that wouldnt be lound enough to scare a mouse and to the other 140plus members of this person's corps... all I have to say is.... "hey.... 99.9% chance you knew after you were given a contract...that this particular corps was going to be using ww's.... Do I feel for the "lack of appreciation" members... yes.. but a LINE HAS TO BE DRAWN...and needs to say .............THAT'S IT !!!!!!!!! This is Drum and Bugle Corps.. ww are not allowed.

Yes, Dougie, I do realize that all those listed may or maynot be at said locaiton at whatever time..... Im just saying that at this time, during the discussion of topic, I dont believe we need woodwinds in DCI..or for that matter...WANTED ! (IMHO).... But on the subject of what you are talking about....overstaffing.. even though drum corps post X amount of Staff... I realize that SOME are just consulted for their experience at a specific time.. and whatnot. FINE.. but keeping up with the Jones is killing the availability for the normal good talented kid to march....because of finances. BECAUSE of these so-called experts of their field, I just believe that this is another example that is bleeding this hobbie/love/interest that we love to death, financially.....Thats all.

yes..you are correct......... and its an unfortunate reality. HOWEVER..when looking at DIV 1's staff from ANY of the DIV 1's.... do they really need THAT MANY PAID STAFF MEMBERS ????? Just seems like the members of years past didnt need the constant "sitting" that some of these corps have.. To me. its the "well-Corps A has _members to work with lower brass.... so of course WE have to have _members also".... Keeping up with the Jones' is what I believe we used to call it....... Where is some RESPONSIBILITY on the MARCHERS behalf... that they dont get left behind.. that they know how to march correctly after the 1st week of 12hour days...... just seems like alot of waste when there really DOESNT need to be..... If you want to look at drum and bugle corps like a business, I jsut dont feel it's reasonable to have THAT MANY STAFF, in a world of cutbacks..........jmho

I had a friend/his wife and 3 kids do the "Disney Week", including airfare/Disney resort......plus food.. Im sure it easily ran into 5 figures.... yeah.. this activity has just gotten crazy with its prices... But then again, the "staff" for these DIV1 corps looks more like the white pages of a local phone book !!!! -do the corps REALLY need that many staff on ??????- seems my year in the 80's we got alot done without having to have someone wipe our butts for us....... geez...unreal !!!

And that I have all intentions of doing and have already done so this year to a young lady in a corps in the upper Midwest....... (no-not mentioning the corps or her name) so I have supported her endevours.... and am proud that I have done so..... Now if we can just get drum and BUGLE corps to a place that we all can be happy with.... it'd be great........ but you have to look at the fact... finals numbers are down.. dues are higher... this is not drum and BUGLE corps anymore... its suppose to be a not-for-profit organization..

EXCELLENT POINT !!! Even Montreal had better attendance then last year........ and as someone else pointed out ....125 a ticket... and on the 20....... no thanks....... I'll just catch a local show/regional and be ok with that fact. DCI.. you've become money hungry...... and with it, you're losing fans...... or should I say fans that are willing to fork out what you "want " !!!

Well.. all I can say is that those that enjoy the idea of D&B Corps with the sounds of woodwinds.. I have a suggestion to you... after all.. I know nothing... only been watching this activity since the early 60's when VFW..(Veterns of Forign Wars...incase you didnt know....) was the itinials used buy this current organizaiton.........DCI.. Heres my suggestion............ go watch Eclypse !!!!!! and with that I bid you a fond adu !

Ok then... This is where the adminstative staff/BOD steps in and says..........."NO..this is DRUM AND BUGLE CORPS.. This is NOT BOA !!!! Instructors... lower your EGO's and settle with what WE, the CORPS, ALUMS and FANS want !!! Please..... get that theory through your heads !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well...all I could advise you is to go and start your MARCHING BAND/CORPS INTERNATIONAL... just leave DCI alone, with the way the majority of the fans enjoy it...... and I do believe Im speaking of the majority when I say this............ I am just SHOCKED that you had several corps directors email you back w/responces...... WOW !! How human of them..!!!! But lets not make light of this subject.. We, the fans, DO NOT WANT WOODWINDS IN DCI !!!! Im hoping that they, the corps directors, will understand that this has nothing to do with economics, or any other distractions. This -no- on woodwinds in DCI is just a movement from us fans.... and we are saying ENOUGH ALREADY !!!!!!!!!!!! With a world where the only thing you hear about is bad.... PLEASE let this small sector of my world... DCI/drum and bugle corps... stay the way it is... and allow me to enjoy a viable piece of music and art to listen and watch ! Thats all we're asking.. ..PLEASE LEAVE WELL ENOUGH ALONE !! thats all we want.. just leave this small little aspect of our world alone.

I have to admit.. I was VERY MUCH against electronics, and still am to this day... If you need assistance to pull of a musical number on the field with any amplification, or for that matter, any form of electonics..then I believe your design team HASNT done a good job... IMHO...... BUT I STAND Tall stating that I will not support that corps...but I will say.., and by the sounds of the majority on this specific topic... is "there's power in numbers", and that's something the corps' directors and BOD...eventually...will have to deal with. Please us, the fans and the ones that provide you your positions. Dont punish the kids that want to march and have to march Corps A because of whatever reason...... yes.. it's 2010, BUT this activity HAS COME ALONG WAY... and this mentality of ww, I feel, is directed more towards BOA..not DCI.

I stand on my ground when I proudly state that I dispise the idea of woodwinds being A PART OF THE JUDGED MUSICAL PERFORMANCE...in a DRUM AND BUGLE CORPS COMPETITION~~~ PERIOD !!!! (hey-you want to play RhapinBlu for your ENCORE with a talented member who also plays the clarinet, I say ~hey good for you !!! Those that chose to stay to hear it will... those that dont care for the sound of woodwinds will not..........) I will be doing alot of what everyone on here is coming to the conclusion of doing......... not purchasing their souvies... not clapping. These reactions should cause a chain event in the directors and BOD's thoughts and theories.... and I hope, for once, that those players realize that WE, THE FANS and ALUMS that pay MONEY to view the show, WILL EVENTUALLY GET IT and LEAVE WELL ENOUGH ALONE. Stop here... Synth's .... STOP RIGHT HERE !!!! This activity is fine RIGHT WHERE IT IS.. If you want and crave woodwinds....... go see a BOA contest...... If the corps' show's concept designer CAN NOT come up with a show that, for whatever reason, HAS to have an oboe or clarinet, then that person needs to remember that this is a drum and BUGLE corps, and the options for music out there are endless.
