  1. …so in the pool we had going, I took the under, in how long it would be until you resurfaced. Thanks for the $75, bro💰
  2. In the voice of actor Ben Stein, Ferris Bueller’s Econ teacher: “J. Webb? J. Webb? J. Webb…”
  3. This has got to be one of the most eagerly anticipated Crown-set, roll outs, in, well, a long time. Those in the know have commented all season, on the staff’s measured tweaking and layering of the show. Don’t recall anyone commenting on this show having peaked at any point this season. Quite the opposite in fact. Since SCV is not around this year, perhaps Gail Royer’s spirit is somewhere in the great beyond, and will send his energy Crown’s way, a la an ‘89 Vanguard GE explosion👑
  4. I do recall a decent, hand held video that an attendee shot [Crown] at this event last year, and later uploaded to YouTube. While the venue might be comparatively small, especially on the heels of Atl. and NB, the folks in the stands really showed their appreciation. If it’s on the schedule next summer, my try it after Winston Salem. Just a shade over 100 miles.
  5. In spite of an exceptional brass score and a fairly solid run last night, Crown slid a spot placement-wise. Which would suggest that there’s essentially no room for error each time a corps steps off from here to Indy. I had the extreme good fortune to be in the company of some exceptionally knowledgeable corps folks at NB, and the consensus is that BD’s a lock for 21; we’re all just duking it out for a podium spot or caption award. For me a tale of two shows: 1) ecstatic to have seen Crown ‘23 live, in DCI’s finest venue but 2) appreciating/accepting the inevitability of yet another BD title. Not a dis mind you, a romping good product they’ve fielded this season. They do SO much, SO well. Do I still have hope for a C2C, Hail Mary, [your favorite] miracle finish here? I’m a Crownie, that’s what we do. Duh. Point is, Inferno went down on the last run, of the last Sat. night of the season. Putting aside for the moment that BD’s are consummate gamers, can any corps get that close on finals night for that to even be in play?
  6. See ‘91 Star of Indiana. Would be one for the ages.
  7. Gonna have to burn the midnight oil next year, early season. Depriving myself of Cascades 'til this late in year.
  8. Just heard quote of the day on the field, as they're setting up for drill: "No fun in drum corps."
  9. No fast & loose on the show title today, but NightBEAT rates a little gravitas. Weathers’s lookin’ good, and the inaugural meeting of the [questionable] DCP CrownBRAINTRUST is on the docket. In the inimitable words of the legend Dr. Joe Allison, “Can’t wait!”
  10. Putters Patio & Grill. Been there forever, and food’s still outstanding (ate there yesterday afternoon. You can literally see the stadium from there.
  11. It would be a privilege—nay, an HONOR—to be the titular leader of such an august cadre of fellow DCI/Crown FUNantics. I humbly accept. Safe travels to all. My consort & I eagerly await your arrival. Goodwill opens @ 12:00p, and I’m hoping for a good price on a gross of well worn, but serviceable baby dolls…
  12. …and, as always, 1st in our🫶’s👑👑👑
  13. DCI sever crashed. What are we not believing?
  14. …and until someone can emulate that model consistently, it’s unlikely to change.
  15. The Maynard Ferguson in me can’t get enough of that!!
  16. Yea, can I let that $50 ride ‘til A-town….
  17. The line is 85% yes. Put me down for $50 on the over💰👑 That’ll at least cover 3/4’s of the room rate here at this crappy hotel here in Winston Salem. Place has gone way down since my last stay.
  18. Yea, you rate hazardous duty pay. I’ll be hangin’ with a couple fellas at the union hall tonight. See’ ve we can muster few fazools for your effort . Fuggedaboutit….
  19. …and we’re still lovin’ J. Webb and perc is still havin’ a tough time hangin.’ Call that a push…
  20. ..and I’m still sobbing. Lion remarks to Scarecrow…
  21. They do that, I will die a happy man. Regardless of how many miles I still clock in this life.
  22. I will be a sobbing fool Sunday nite. Just so good…
