  1. Still a good story from Brasso. I'll bet that if Disney Studios were to tell the '76 North Star story, the corps would have made finals the next year. Maybe even won... year after year after year. But like I said, I like the North Star story and they did rise from adversity to make it into the finals realm soon enough.
  2. BRASSO, that is an awesome story! I loved North Star and marched and roomed with a former North Star MM. Truly inspirational and a tribute to the class of people that keep drum corps going and growing. And I also remember the World Open Championships (1980s). Back then it was word of mouth that spread the news... today, social media. As DCI continues to change and grow in competitiveness, I'm glad that one thing has remained unchanged... the spirit of helping one another in dire circumstances.
  3. Kudos to the Sacramento Mandarins who helped the FREE Players Drum Corps move their equipment onto the field for their performance at DCI East in Allentown. Despite tight scores/rankings, highly competive seasons, and face-paced schedules, drum corps' MMs and staff continually go out of their way to help and support other drum corps organizations. What stories do you remember about being there for other corps or other corps being there for you? https://www.facebook.com/drumcorpsinternational/posts/10153524081974172
  4. Wow, here is another reason to appreciate the Mandarins this season. Here is a note from their Executive Director Jim Tabuchi regarding helping the Free Players with their onto the field set up. "You should all be proud of your sons and daughters. Not only did they perform the show of their lives in front of thousands of fans, they also acted in kind service last night. We were called by DCI to provide a hand full of members to help the Free Players drumline onto the field. Their drumline is composed of disabled performers who had difficulty going up a steep ramp to the field. Instead of a handful, our entire corps showed up. Your kids carried their instruments for them, got them water, calmed their nerves and cheered them on from the sidelines. This was one of the proudest moments in Mandarins history!"
  5. Lots of DCI fans have really enjoyed the Sacramento Mandarins in 2015. Some see a bright future for the corps, possibly contending for a finalist spot in the next few years. How have you enjoyed the Mandarins this year? Field Pass Podcast: Mandarins have 'The Edge' in 2015 Link to Field Pass: https://soundcloud.com/drum-corps-international/20150731-fieldpass
  6. Super close race between OC, Mandarins, and PC this season. Seems to me that the Mandarins are strongest, even with SOA, but the judges have a different perspective.
  7. The Cavies whiteboard says "Don't share food or drinks," but I think it's Game On!
  8. Why do they keep the ponchos on for so long? They should take them off when the sun comes out.
  9. I use my laptop and connect it HDMI to my tv and home theater sound system. I have it because I have a kid marching.
  10. Not sure if Atlanta CV really draws much away from SOA membership/auditions. Having a young corps has its challenges and no guarantees that high schoolers will stay through college. I hear most WC corps have most members coming from outside of their region. SOA will need a stronger draw nationally to increase the selectivity for membership. I would love to see SOA get back to its glory days.
  11. True, winning one out of three will not "necessarily" beat another corps. Madison took 1 out of 3 captions tonight, but so did two other corps (Blue Stars in Music; Boston Crusaders in Visual). Looks like a pretty good matchup between these top three tonight.
  12. Key matchups to watch. 1. BD, Cadets, Crown. Crown and BD made a recent surge passing up Cadets at Murfreesboro. Will the Cadets bring out the neon guard uniforms? 2. Blue Stars and Crossmen. Both corps have been trading positions in recent head-to-head competitions with a .1 differential at Broken Arrow. 3. SOA, OC and Mandarins. OC has been close with PC and Mandarins and even tied twice this season. Mandarins was only .3 behind SOA in Opelika. Which corps will truly be able to bring it at Atlanta?
  13. WHOA!!!! Mandarins beat SOA in Music Analysis, Percussion and Guard! And Mandarins Brass beats SOA and Colts! Somebody said the Mandarins brought it tonight. I guess they sure did. I look forward to seeing them on DCI Live tomorrow.
  14. Could SCV hack the lighting system and turn out the lights before they end the show?
  15. Pure imagination is one of my favorite solos this year. I actually wonder how it would sound on trombone.
  16. A couple of tight showdowns coming to DCI Arkansas (Little Rock). 1/10th separated Crossmen and Blue Stars and 5/100th separated OC and Mandarins in the previous evening at Broken Arrow, OK. Order of performance follows. 7:00 pm Mandarins 7:17 pm Jersey Surf 7:34 pm Pacific Crest 7:51 pm Oregon Crusaders 8:08 pm Colts 8:42 pm Crossmen 8:59 pm Blue Stars 9:16 pm Blue Knights 9:33 pm Santa Clara Vanguard
  17. 1/10th separates Crossman and Blue Stars. 5/100th separates OC and Mandarins.
  18. Looking forward to key matchups tonight: Crossmen and Blue Stars; Mandarins, Oregon Crusaders, and Pacific Crest.
