  1. I keep checking the Bill Search Page and so far he hasn't touched 1369. He needs to VETO by Tuesday. Keep sending those e-mails!
  2. A few words from Don Silva regarding the Alumni Drumline, some plans, and "staff": I thought I would take some time to let everyone know a little about our thoughts and direction for the Freelancer Alumni Drum Line. After having had the pleasure of working with drummers/percussionists in the Freelancers for the past (gulp) forty years, I know there are a lot of you out there that could/ should come give this a try. There are players from the 60s (yes 60s), 70s, 80s, 90s and players from our ten years of winter drum lines as well. My personal goal is to get a good representation of players from each decade (yes I said decade). Please don't think that you will have to come and fight for a spot through auditions or anything like that. The gathering of Freelancers Alumni Drummers is meant to be a fun, pleasant situation that gives people a chance to do something they haven't done in a while. We would like to give you all a chance to play some old school and some new school and all the stuff in between. Oh yeah, and play some Freelancer charts with the already existing Freelancers Alumni Brass Section. To help get us moving in a positive direction I've enlisted the help of Roger Carter (Velvet Knights, Concord Blue Devils, Riverside Community College, Logan High School, Crossmen, Madison Scouts and the Freelancer Indoor Drum line) and Dan Hudson (Freelancers, Folsom High School, River City Regiment, Renegades and the Freelancer Indoor Drum line). Since there have been so many Freelancers that have gone on to teach/ work with drum lines, I will look towards some of you to help out with instruction as well. We will also have Jeff Collins, Kelli Giles and Rob DuPriest helping us with managerial matters. Our short-term goals are to get as many drummers together as possible and have some fun playing as a group. We'll learn a street beat or two and some Freelancers tunes to play with the horn line. We may do a parade (if you think you can make the distance great, if not, well that's ok too). We'll be on stands almost all of the time. No hour long rolls - Exercises that are fun to do and feel good as well. Can you believe this is me talking? Seriously though, we are looking for this to be a fun and not a painful experience. Long-term goals are just being formulated. They could consist of things like competing in DCA's small corps and/or ensemble contests this year followed the next year by a really large and fine quality Alumni Corps to also go to DCA. Finally, I believe that there are a lot of Freelancers Drum Line Alumni out there that don't visit this or any other drum corps site. Please help us get the word out to all of the Freelancers (or friends of the Freelancers) that you can think of, even if you have to pick up the phone and give someone a call after all these years. That's what it's all about anyway isn't it? All these years. Feel free to e-mail me at drumsilva@sbcglobal.net for any info. On and On Don Silva
  3. Alright - who are the famous drum corps people associated with these bands?
  4. The Governor just signed the budget. News Article I think he has until the 30th to sign/VETO bills.
  5. We already have the hornline, now it's time to add DRUMS!!! You are cordially invited to the first Freelancers Alumni & Friends Drumline Rehearsal!!! Sunday, October 12th, 2008 3:30 to 6:00 p.m. Freelancers Corps Hall 7257 East Southgate Drive Sacramento, CA 95823 MAP Spread the news! Can't wait to see you there, ~Kelli~
  6. If I remember correctly, it has to do with volume of sales. Greg Gilman (director of the Renegades) works for Apple as one of their main webmasters and has tried. Since that didn't work, occasionally he'll put the Renegades on monitor screen shots on Apple's website. Evil (good) times!
  7. For anyone that would like to play at Bram's memorial, we are having a special rehearsal tomorrow night (September 23rd) at the Freelancers Corps Hall at 7:00 p.m. Info HERE. You don't have to be an alumnus of the corps - we are open to any horn player.
  8. I stopped trying to explain it years ago. Now I just tell everyone I'm a stripper on the weekends and ask them if they want to come see a show.
  9. "When they send me the budget, I will veto it," Schwarzenegger said at a Capitol news conference, the Los Angeles Times reports. "If my veto is overriden," he said, " ... hundreds of bills will be vetoed." If he vetoes SB1369, I will be throwing a celebration party!!!
  10. Not trying to knock your idea outright but who would volunteer to work it?
  11. Since that isn't working, you can E-MAIL THE GOVERNOR directly on his WEBSITE.
  12. If you don't have access to your personal e-mail right now, you can E-MAIL THE GOVERNOR from his website Contact the Governor
  13. This may be a last ditch effort but there is a Blog called I Found Your Camera. Keep checking it and see what happens. Good luck!

  15. Death: Gatorade. Named from all the bees that fly into the Gatorade to die. Various flavors = Red Death, Purple Death, Orange Death Spoo: Sunscreen Lip Spoo: Chapstick, Carmex or DCT (also known as Drum Corps Treatment) UGFL: Un-Godly F*%$#n Loud (see Renegades) Death Block: Start at the beginning of the show. Go until someone ticks. Start at the beginning again. Lather, rinse, repeat until you can get through the whole show. Nearly impossible.
  16. The Sacramento Bee has covered the story. A BD/Freelancers alum contacted CNN but hasn't heard back. Don't know of any others.
