  1. I do believe the new board of directors has been acting quickly and with purpose to help stabilize the organization... even in light of today's news. Even to just get seated as a board was a Herculean task (some people just do not recognize when they have overstayed their welcome. Doug Rutherford has provided some badly needed leadership and decisiveness. There is a lot of work to be done. They seem to have a plan and a punch list to get things under control across all aspects of the organization AND make sure investigations are conducted and systems are in place to support the victims (those both know and yet to be known). It truly is "one day at a time" right now. As they learn new ways to operate there will be lessons to be shared with other corps across DCI for I am fairly certain this is not something just isolated to YEA. My hope for the group now is they have a moment or two to catch their breath before another story or better yet find all the stories and get them out for all to see. Full disclosure. Full transparency.
  2. Agree... Rich is a solid person. Collateral damage. I am sure he will be helping someone else in the not too distant future. There probably wold be no C2 championship if not for him.
  3. If you are referring to the accusations against Sean it will be up to the independent investigators the new YEA board has hired to review this issue. If Sean is innocent as he claims then the investigation will bare this out. If not... he will be out. The new board is very focused on stabilizing the organization, empowering the staff to make decisions and moving as quickly as they can to clean up what will soon be looked at as one of the most significant failures in non-profit management ever seen in the United States across ALL non-profits. As for GH... he will be made to account for his actions. And I suspect there may be some liability for the thankfully former board members as well.
  4. The battle does appear to be for second. Cabs are performing well but Bucs seem to be on a roll as they have been all season with a significant gap all season. Cadets2 had a very poor performance last night with yet ANOTHER technical problem with electronics (which has been an issue ALL season!). If Cadets2 can get in a clean performance they will medal and possibly even over take Cabs. But right now four corps seem to be battling for spots 2-5. On a side know... Kidsgrove had a very enjoyable show. And the Fusion guard was tremendous!
  5. And they are the same set the Reading Buccaneers are using now. They appeared the weekend following DCI Finals.
  6. They did a pretty good job with it in 1984 as well as I recall...
  7. I heard this early in the season... way before SA
  8. Seemed like we (Gahfield) only did laundry twice in 1984. Not sure this is an issue since they had planned to do this last week but opted to wait since they were at Franklin Field. At some point it is what it is and just working the members to death will not do anything other than push them away for next year. With a younger corps the goal to retain as many as members as you can for next year. I know that was what the staff was preaching in 1986. The show was what it was. It was design issues... not member performance. So many staff, while still striving to get the show as good as possible, also began to focus on retention. This included how we rehearsed. This strategy worked well and laid the ground work for the 1987 Championship. Maybe we could be so lucky again!
  9. It has been (and Kelly and Donna have attended in the past). Not sure why they were off on their own since I did not attend Saturday as I normally do. They are all great Cadets alum!
  10. Don't forget this also serves as a CPit reunion as well. Every year. Andy does a GREAT job and is a tremendous Cadet Alum!
  11. They are larger... many shows, and certainly the large ones, have had record turn out.
  12. Indeed the focus during the 80s was to focus on what our (Staff) vision for the corps was. Block out the nay sayers and focus on being the best version of ourselves we could be. The competition was not from the outside. It was from within based on a proud history and the standards we set for ourselves individually and as a corps.
  13. Got it... Thanks! In 1983 there was a LOT of discussion about how much the battery played. We had staff members from other corps actually timing us with a watch to se how much "tacit" time we had. Almighty Father and Simple Song had the most extended period of tacit. Of course... no one else was running around with drums like we did that year but it did not help us with credit on the drum sheets (did help with GE and Music).
  14. The Cadets vocal in 84 was an effect in the opening of America (melody sung on "ah") and then the "bye-bye" by the guard. What about featured vocals... When did this occur? Reminds me of the "non-playing battery in 90. What is this? Now... the Cadets vocal ensemble this year is a true innovation. Love the way it is treated an equal "voice" with brass, battery, and pit.
  15. What year was the Cadets launch of a pre show? Actual vocals were not allowed in DCI (see the 1 point penalty for Amen in the late 70s Cadets... trying to bring this back to the thread). While vocalizations were used (Cadets 84 America)... I do not believe a DCI group featured a vocalist(s). This was done initially by MFA/ BOA groups (I believe).
  16. To be fair... they also incorporated electronics, wireless midi, (Plymouth had snares with wireless mics/midi in 1993 courtesy of Pearl), no boundaries, vocals, strings (I know... not a DCI issue) pre shows, etc. There was a period during the early 90's where the innovation in the marching arts was coming from the top BOA bands. With DCI rule changes (regardless of your position on them) many of the designers who were able to experiment in the MFA/BOA world were able to bring these innovations (and more!) to the DCI groups. During this time there was a real debate inside DCI about ceding innovation to the bands.
  17. That may be true.. but there was a time (early 90s) when the MFA/BOA groups innovation significantly surpassed what DCI corps were able to do. A lot of the innovation occurring over the past 15 years in DCI started in BOA.
  18. It was jarring to me since I am used to the solo both this year and from 83. Need to hear it again.
  19. I do not think you can make the statement about C2. They are in as good if not better shape than they were at this time last year. Not sure why you felt the need to bring them into the conversation.
