  1. Teal Sound wants to return back to DCI. However, because of what happened with YEA, they feel that now is not the time to return because the atmosphere is very unstable. Besides the issues of finances and recruiting, they feel that they could be subject to poor choices being made by poor leadership.
  2. Hi everyone, During these past few months, there has been a continuous line of drum corps going inactive because of issues that relates to recruitment of members, finances, and poor leadership by staff members of corps. Below is a list of all the corps that have gone inactive. Inactive Corps: Minnesota Brass - ( DCA Open Class ) - inactive as of 4/23/18 Kilties - ( DCA Class A ) - inactive as of 4/23/18 Alliance - ( DCA Open Class ) - inactive as of 2/21/18 Rocketeers - ( All Age Soundsport Group/ DCA Class A Applicant ) - inactive as of 4/17/18 Rivermen - ( Junior Soundsport Group ) - inactive as of 1/17/18 Appalachian Sound - ( Junior Soundsport Group ) - inactive as of 3/15/18 Lone Star - ( Junior Soundsport Group ) - inactive as of 3/19/18 These corps suffered from at least one of the situations listed above. I have recently been in touch with some corps that are looking to return to DCI Competition. However, these corps feel that at the moment, the problems that I have listed could potentially fall upon them. As a result of this, these corps are holding off efforts to get back into DCI competition. Below is list of corps that fall under this category. Teal Sound - World Class - hopes to return in near future. Doesn’t want to return yet because of the incident that happened with YEA. Spirit of Newark - Open Class - hopes to return in the near future. Cannot return yet due to lack of financial support. Racine Scouts - Open Class - hopes to return in the future. Making attempts to grow slowly back into DCI. Cannot return yet due to low membership numbers. We must do do everything we can to help promote the growth of these corps. Corps from all the competitive circuits are suffering and it is up to us to help them out. If you know someone who wants to march, please encourage them to do so. Make small financial donations whenever possible to help ensure the longetiviry of these corps. In the poll above, please vote for the way that plan to help/support drum corps.
  3. These are all theories that I’ve been hearing not from DCP but from people who are involved in the marching arts.
  4. Hi everyone, After the recent events regarding the Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps, I have come to wonder what the future will be for the corps. I personally will say that the Cadets are an amazing corps and always put on a fun, entertaining show. However, now that the corps reputation has been badly damaged, I am fearing the worst. Many people who I have spoken to have said that people will not want to march Cadets because of everything that has happened. People are thinking that they don’t want to be part of a corps with a history of sexual harassment and assault. As a result of this, some people are thinking that the corps will eventually die out because no one would want to march there. I know this whole thing is a theory; however, there are lots of people who share and believe in these theories. Would you allow yourself, your kids, or your friends to march in the Cadets? Please anwser in the poll provided.
  5. Congrats to you guys for founding a new corps. This will equate to more musical and educational experiences for kids. Best of Luck and I hope to see you guys in open class in 2019.
  6. Hi everyone, This is episode 7 of my match up series. In this episode, we will be looking at the Colts and The Academy. In 2017, both corps experienced changes. New uniforms, new staff, etc. Both corps were neck and neck with eachother. This match up should be very interesting to watch in the 2018. Now it time for you to vote. Who do you think will score and finish higher next season? Vote and well will find out.
  7. Jersey Surf has announced their 2018 program Mondo Mandrian

  12. I was doing some research and I made an astonsihing discovery. There are new corps planning on joining DCI's open class, and a LOT of them. Here is a list of the corps: Vessel Drum and Bugle Corps - DCI Open Class 2018 - Orange County, CA https://www.vesseldrumcorps.org Armada Drum and Bugle Corps - DCI Open Class 2018 - Boise, ID http://www.armadacorps.org *Arsenal Drum and Bugle Corps - DCI Open Class 2019 - Albuquerque, NM https://arsenalperformingarts.org Encorps Drum and Bugle Corps - DCI Open Class 2019 - Brunswick, NJ http://jamwithencorps.org Rivermen Drum and Bugle Corps - DCI Open Class 2019 - Portland, OR https://oregonpaa.weebly.com/therivermen.html Appalachian Sound Drum and Bugle Corps - DCI Open Class 2019 - Atlanta, GA http://mayde-inc.org/appalachiansound/ Appalachian Gold Drum and Bugle Corps - DCI Open Class 2019 - Summersville, WV https://www.appalachiangold.org Hub City Guardians Drum and Bugle Corps - DCI Open Class 2019 - Houston, TX https://www.hubcityguardians.org Lone Star Drum and Bugle Corps - DCI Open Class 2019 - Fort Worth, TX http://www.lonestardbc.org Storm Drum and Bugle Corps - DCI Open Class 2020 - Terre Haute, IN http://indianastorm.net Florida Xpress Drum and Bugle Corps - DCI Open Class 2020 - Hawthorne, FL http://www.thefloridaxpress.org/drum--bugle-corps.html All these corps are going to contribute to the growth of DCI. As of right now, from what I know, these corps are determined to enter open class by the years that they have set. If these 11 corps are successful in joining DCI's open class, there will be a total of 57 corps competing in DCI competitions by 2020. I have listed all the corps websites and I urge you all to visit them and learn more about the organizations that will be a part of drum corps future! If you know any other organizations that are planning on joining DCI's Open Class within the next 3 years, please post them below and I will add them to the list above! *Arsenal Drum and Bugle Corps believes that maybe World Class has room in it for another corps from the Southwest. : ) This is a post that I did earlier but if these Corps make it into Open Class in the years listed, then it would be okay for 15 corps at finals.
  13. I think the biggest ones that would change dci forever are 15 corps at finals, ordinals, and no scoring before July 1st. In my opinion, 15 corps at finals can’t be undone. It’s one of those things where once it happens it’s almost impossible to go back to the way that it was before. If they even mention going back to only 12 corps in finals, the entire drum corps community would blow up. They would think that it’s not fair to the corps who made finals in spots 13 - 15 the previous year. For ordinal scoring only, that is another can’t come back from situation. If ordinals scoring goes into effect, then we drum corps fans will never hear scores of 99.65 ever again. It will be hidden from us. And if they try to make any changes from that, there will be debates about how dci is judging in general. For example, if they decide to allow people to see the scores later in future but still do placements by ordinal rankings, then there will be massive debate about how the judging isn’t fair amongst drum corps fans. Lastly, for the no scores before July 1st, that one can lead to some serious damage towards the corps. People in the stands go to drum corps shows to watch the competition. There are a lot shows before July 1st and if the proposal passes, then all those shows before July 1st become exhibition shows. While that isn’t bad, it can damage the corps because people want to see competition. People aren’t going to want to pay money to see the same show in exhibition for a week. As a result, those early shows will lose income and the corps would suffer because they wouldn’t be making money off the people who normally come to those shows. Again these are just my opinions.
  14. I think at this point, whatever happens happens. Tomorrow, DCI itself could be changed forever and it could affect us all. At the same time, it could stay the same and it wouldn’t affect us at all. Regardless of your opinions on the proposals, it’s best to just accept the possibility of change.
  15. Hopefully, I heard from DCI that they will release news about new open class corps in the spring of this year so fingers crossed!
  16. Yes, there is one corps called jubal who is coming from the Netherlands but they are competing in the international class, not open.
  17. Listen to how many corps the states there are in open class. He says 23 but on the DCI website there are only 22 open class corps.... He also did mention City Sound returning and according to him, City Sound, otherwise known as Vessel Drum and Bugle Corps, would be the 24th open class. So if DCI's website shows 22 open class corps and the guy in the video says a possible number of 24 open class corps where Vessel is the 24th, then who is the 23rd open class corps?
  18. Hi everyone, welcome to episode 6 of my corps match up series. Today we will be looking at an unusual but very interesting pair of Corps today; Golden Empire and Heat Wave of Florida. Let’s start off with Golden Empire. Golden Empire is a drum corps that was founded in 2013. They have stayed local and have competed in competitions along the west coast. In 2017, Golden Empire had one of their best season ever and finished a their season at the Southern California bellflower championships with a 59.70. In 2018, they are scheduled to compete in many competitions across the United States as they head to the DCI World Championships for the very first time in their history. And now on to Heat Wave of Florida. Heat Wave of Florida was founded in 2014. Like Golden Empire, they have primarly stuck to competing locally. They have competed on the east coast for the most part. 2017 was Heat Wave’s greatest year by far and finished their local season with a high score of 57.40. The interesting part about Heat Wave is that they too are planning on competing at the 2018 DCI World Championships for the first in the Corps history. They are currently under evaluation by DCI. If DCI passes Heat Wave as a strong, stable organization, then Heat Wave will be allowed to compete at the DCI World Championships. It would be the first time a Florida Corps has attended the DCI world championships since Teal Sound last went in 2011. When looking at both Corps, both Corps are very young, both Corps are on opposite sides of the United States, and both Corps plan to make their very first debut at the DCI World Championships in 2018. Now after all that, who do you think will score and finish higher in 2018? Please vote in the poll above and we will find out!
  19. It is and as a result corps like vessel are growing larger and stronger.
