I personally think it's a look thing. In 05 we had a really cool flam exercise that was written in all sorts of different time signatures. You couldn't really mark time to it, so rather than just stand there we spread our feet. No rhyme or reason. Just a look thing.

The idea of strong regional competitions is great. As a matter of fact, when DCA - South was born there was a DCA sponsored regional championship that was held in Atlanta. I know things have changed within the past couple of years, but that option is still a possibility. All you need to do is have John discuss this with the region, as well as all the other southern corps directors so that a vote can then take place. Another thing that might help your case out here regarding strong regional competition is to host your own show. Why not offer to host the DCA - South championship? Now, regarding your confusion as to why southern corps travel to a northern show. Why not? Why wouldn't you want to make an appearance in the north? I think the corps that have made the trip up north are making a smart move. They're playing the game, and by doing so they will end their seasons well. Isn't that also what the members pay for? I don't know about you, but if I was a member of a corps who paid good money to be there, the idea of all rehearsal and no shows or travel would burn me out so fast. Just my two cents.

I just saw a few lot clips from the show last week. Hurcs are lookin' good man...especially that tenor line. Their feature in the drum solo is pretty sweet.
