  1. I can almost guarantee that whatever Mackey cooks up is going to be dark, as I mentioned before, because that is what he excels at and that is something that Crown excels at. My hope that is even though Matt Harlof is the new residing head director for Avon HS he still has the time to put into Crown, after all he isn't just the brass caption head there anymore. He also oversees the percussion caption as well now. I want crown to go all out this year, they really have an opportunity to take the field by storm this year after the success they had last year.
  2. One month away from move-ins! Getting more and more excited as the season grows nearer!
  3. I think that we can glean that there will be an element of dark in this show, because that is what John Mackey excels at. Dark, intricate melodies. Percussion and low brass are going to have worlds of fun with whatever he writes for them, I can tell you that.
  4. I am happy that is the case, things like that are very necessary in my field.
  5. John Mackey is one of my favorite composers so I can't wait to see how that pans out. Color me *very* intrigued for how this summer goes. Mackey is very well known for odd time signatures and very chaotic pieces, very very friendly to low brass. Me thinks we see some trombone and bass trombone from Crown this season once again.
  6. Ahhhhh yesssssss Dr. Kloessel is great! Love that guy, would love to go to a show or two with him.
  7. I was at a storm chasing convention in Fort Worth this weekend (I am a storm chaser and meteorology major) and happened to meet two film score writers from Hollywood that also happen to be prominent storm chasers and we had about a four hour long conversation about film scores and classical music. During that awesome conversation, I was able to introduce them to Crown and they were blown away. The very first show I presented them with was 2012! I also showed them snippets from 2015, 2018, 2019, and 2023. Two of the husband's favorite pieces are Tristan and Isode and Gabriel's Oboe, so naturally he was very moved by what he saw. I will never forget about that conversation that I had with them. If you want to go look them up, their names are Bill and Anna Stromburg! They are great composers!
  8. I am suffering from major DCDS (Drum Corps Deprivation Syndrome) right now. Going through the archives and watching a bunch of shows and rehearsal videos. Is it may yet?
  9. Starting to see Crown share posts of people receiving contracts on their story. I am getting antsy already and we are still five months out from anything of significance happening haha.
  10. I completely agree. Klesch is a musical genius and I hope he remains with the program for at least the next two decades. One of the really cool things about him is that he continues to evolve as a writer, he doesn't hold on to tendencies for too long, at least not anymore. This ensemble is really pushing the activity musically even now, and I am here for it. Music is the entire basis of this activity, after all, even over the marching. The best part is his music almost ALWAYS matches what is happening on the field. I love that.
  11. The direction the ensemble went this past season has had me incredibly excited for the talent pool and the direction of the ensemble this year.
  12. There are some absolutely beautiful choral pieces out there that I would die to hear crown put on the field. Miserere Mei, Deus is just one of them. I would love to hear some of the Eric Whitacre choral pieces from crown too.
  13. Love this program tweaking staff and really trying to push the program forward. I think that Bimm is a fitting addition for this program, and we all know his pedigree is as vast as the seven seas.
  14. What would be really cool imo is seeing how other musicians and dancers from different worlds than marching band and drum corps would react and review in a round table fashion. Like different rock stars, orchestral musicians, producerrs, contemporary and classical dancers and the likes.
