CABALLERO PRIDE!

That was an epic experience, and one I will never forget. I had a saying that year, quoted from a favorite song: "I felt the crowd breathe in and I closed my eyes and we disappeared into the groove". The was the deep breath in the 6 count silence right before we rotated the pinwheel, and also the split second of silence right after Guy's bullcall in to Bully. EPIC does not even begin to describe the craziness in my brain every time we unleashed Bully. Hell bent on being heard all over the world.

Songs that make me want to break things when I crank the volume (with the exception of Cadets Overture) are as follows: Bully - !976, 1996, 2006 Hawthorne Caballeros (the small sample we played in our closer in 2006 is possibly the most emotional "unloading" of a hornline I have ever heard or been part of, and I know there are 62 other men and women that agree with me). Spanish Fantasy - 1996 Hawthorne Caballeros (Now that I think of, pretty much the entire 1996 production by the Caballeros). Malaguena - Any treatment by The Caballeros or Madison Scouts. Strawberry Soup - 1993 Blue Devils (Solo and small ensemble work in that song are some of the best to date and still blow my mind when I hear that show). All the closers from Star of Indiana's productions in 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993 (Again, all of these shows are total packages IMO). Overture (New World) - 2005 Cadets (Actually this entire production as well. Baritone soloist in the opened is to die for).

I started when I was 18 in 1994. I would agree with Josh that Cabs are somewhere between 17 and 25 as our average age. With a few "30-somethings" sprinkled in for good measure.

Yeah first full camp! I love playing Malaguena. Come on down, and make sure you don't miss the opportunity to be part of something special in 2008. CABALLERO PRIDE!!

I am a huge fan of the clean, slender look the Buccaneers uniform gives the corps. Works incredibly well with visual, form, body line, etc. They look cleaner than the rest visually because of the great design of the uniforms. I am also a fan of Brigs uniforms with their bad-### shakos, and long clean lines of the uniform. But of course, I always loved kickpleats, especially in high mark time...

Prelims is August 30th.

SO proud and happy for Marianne. She was overwhelmingly the most deserving of this award. And congratulations to all the other winners, also well deserved.

Good memories of standing in the center of the circle, right arm raised fingers pointed high, and Jaimie or Marty starting us off. God that seems like a lifetime ago. Yes. Me, too... Classic!!!! Amen Mr. Ryan.

Scotty J did a fantastic job!

He was standing behind me yesterday, and I dare say, he is a MONSTER horn player. Brian Wilkie had to go up to him and say SSSSSHHHHHHH -- BACK OFF!! Which in Caballero Land is a compliment -- PofPP DofDD are prime examples!). Great tone, and great volume/quality of sound. He is a welcome edition and just a nice guy. You done good raising him Frank!

We had a new baritone named Terrence make his way to the bar last night as Glenn and I were tending. I said we have Corona, Bud, Bud Lite, and of course Coors lite, and wine and hard liquor for mixed drinks. He was in awe when I said beer is 2 bucks and Corona and mixers are only 3 bucks. I think he liked his first day at the Post. And to Brian Grilk and our wandering down memory lane at the trophy case, thanks for showing me your favorites. Welcome to Hawthorne all new members, I hope to see all of you next camp and of course at our annual Christmas Banquet and Awards Ceremony.
