  1. A quick and easy Haiku: Dear Cadets and your Door Please don't come back this summer Your show is a bore It's not very good, but i'll keep working on it.
  2. Read first few paragraphs before I decided I was going to post. Haven't read anything else, but who do you think is proposing all these rules changes? Plus I just haven't enjoyed the Cadets the last few years. 01 was pretty good, but 98-99 were the best.
  3. Your bias for Cavaliers makes me sick. What about all the other great shows out there?! I am offended and am writing a strongly worded letter to your governor. :) 2003 BTW - I think it's the most "Cavalier" of all of their shows. Except maybe 007...
  4. Some big names browse here at DCP. DVD :P I like to type up big long responses, read them for myself, then delete them.
  5. I just wanted to comment my perspective on the top three corps, even though I'm incredibly biased. Phantom - I've never really been a big fan of Phantom beacuse of their horn sounds, but my dad has always loved them. With that said, even he couldn't get into their show. The plot was not evident, and the second half of the show had some of the important members of the guard just standing around. /boggle I really couldn't get into this show which is a shame with all the hype that it has recieved. An explanation of this could be they are extremely young. I went to see the hornline warming up and they all looked really young. They also looked very unconfident and scared. Hopefully a few more weeks of shows will give them the boost they need to get them to perform their show. Bluecoats - I have never really been a fan of bluecoats, never been able to get into the shows. With that said, I loved this year. Everything seemed so well put together that I was amazed. The brass seemed especially good, they're just a shade softer than phantom but they have a quality of sound that Phantom doesn't have (which I appreciated). The colorguard was on FIRE tonight, and the instructors which happened to watch the show from nearby in the stands thought the same ;P. The bluecoats were definately the cleanest corps, but this makes me wonder if they will be able to keep it up and continue to add enough to the show... Cavaliers - They really look great, already looking confident too. They are incredibly dirty but that'll clean up soon. They just put the last 16 pages of their closer on the field before the show yesterday so that explains why the closer was so dirty. The hornline sounded amazing, louder than Phantom IMO and also the quality of sound and matching of tone was very well done for this early in the season. Drums were hot too! I loved the tilt and the new drums were shiny and really pretty. The colorguard was very great tonight too, I kept missing awesome drill moves because I was watching the colorguard. There's just too much to see in this show. Well that's my short review. This was my first show in 6 years, and as an alumni it was sad to see my corps go out there without me. This will be an excellent year for DCI, I'll have to wait to see BD, and Cadets to make a final prediction, but for now the Cavaliers are going to run away with everything (including your girlfriend ;) ) this summer.
  6. Garrett was that a review? Pick up your jaw and describe some things please!!! ;) kkthanks There are a few of us reading this thread that are FAR away from Naperville.. I miss that town.
  7. Thanks Stef, Gotta wait another day for Toledo. Can't wait.
  8. It's a shame you can barely make out the first few solos of that show, poor positioning from the design team IMO.
  9. You say we pay too much attention to him yet you start a thread about fracks and stuff. Have you had a solo in front of 30k people? Do you KNOW how much pressure that is every day? Eating away at you every day during practice if you frack a single note? Trying to be perfect every single time? DO YOU? If you have soloed in front of a DCI Finals crowd you are my hero and I applaud you. Even if you suck it up. EDIT - Ok that came off a bit more harsh than I originally wanted, but still you get the idea.
  10. Probably too many hits crashed the server >.> :P
  11. The robot - Coming soon to every copycat BOA band this fall!!! Thanks Cavaliers for another amazing GE effect that stirs the crowd into a frenzy. Edit - That is why this will be the best show, everyone copies it.
  12. Other popular mottos in drum corps: "High Notes = Pressure + squeezing" "That airplane sound is GOOD!" "It's loud enough when your kidney's come through the bell" "Angry tone is actually good!"
  13. Well there you have it. This will be the best show of 2006. It might not win, but it will be the best show.
  14. Ok just so you know... Those two men in the picture are both over 6 feet tall. In fact I think they're close to 6'4'' - 6'5''. Also top notch guys and true Cavaliers in every sense of the word. I promise you that Even thought Tommy Allen isn't over 6 feet tall, he will look "super-human" this summer.
  15. First off- These pictures could have all been taken 1+ hours into the parade. Are you really criticizing them for having sub-perfect anything after marching for that long? Kinda rude if you ask me. I've marched in my fair share of parades and I can say after about 10 minutes I was dog-gone tired of using perfect technique. After 50 minutes I'm sure most people are just tired of WALKING. Also, I wouldn't suggest telling anyone at The Cavaliers to guide, chances are they won't even know what it is (or care for that matter). I know that I'm looking forward to seeing "Machine" the most of any shows I've heard of this summer (72 horns what?)! Please continue with your thread now and I'll go back to my lurking.
  16. Some people like Noises that are unbalanced and unblended - It's not my job to argue with them about what gets them excited, or what they like. I just wish some of these Cadet lovers would try to hold themselves to a higher standard of tone quality at every dynamic level even while moving.... Go Go Gadget Cavaliers Hornline.... I wasn't trying to flame, it just came out. :)
  17. I wish that Neb was on the Cadets staff... At least that way the stuff he talks about would get fixed... .... ......
  18. I agree with the Phantom - Eh-ness In fact I turned off the DVD player and left my house after I heard the Soprano feature with double tonguing the second time around (I called them sopranos because they sounded like it...) Try to tongue in the same place with the same strength of tongue each time... And consistant air speed... The reason you hear things from the Cavaliers horn line is beacuse they are SO clean that those minute tiny things really rub on you after hearing wonderfully matched tone quality and articulation. Instead of pointing out those Tiny things they are doing wrong check out all the things they are doing RIGHT, then you will finally hear what sets them apart from the rest of the activity.
