  1. Reading through your topic from last season... I think the meter readings might settle the sound debate once and for all. Will be interesting to see how much lower db SCV is, and if they aren't then it's settled. The "lack" of volume is only an appearance.
  2. I'm sorry Dr Beat ruins your experience as an audience member. Unfortunately for you, Dr. Beat has a doctorate in education...
  3. I wore New Balance for 4 summers, and had some pain in my knees by the 4th summer. My age out summer I went to a running store - they watched me run, and "prescribed" shoes that fit my movement type and foot type. They ended up being $150+ shoes but they felt amazing. The shoes are the most important investment (except perhaps a large supply of melty gooey DCT!) that you will take on tour.
  4. wow - now that's preseason recordings done right.
  5. So I lurk a lot, but haven't in a long time. I had to ask this question to the general DCP membership: Is Howdy that guy that says really dumb crap all the time an everyone ignores him because he's a "special child"? You must not work with high school kids now-a-days, because let me tell you first hand. With the right teacher (probably NOT YOU) they do some absolutely INCREDIBLE things. I know a program in my area that played in one semester - Molly on the shore, Harrison's Dream, Candide, and Trittico! I'll move on after this to ignoring the special child, and lurking. lurk...
  6. Let's look at a show that many folks totally worship for power and volume. Spirit of Atlanta 1980. They had ~54 horns. Can you honestly tell me that 54 members can play louder on a dB level than an 80 member brass line now? Take a look at corps in the 90's which many consider to be the prime of DCI - 64 horns! If you can explain the physics of how 54/64 horns are playing LOUDER (dB) than 80(!!!) horns today go ahead. I would make a suggestion for some of you to turn up your hearing aides. >.<
  7. A lot of top corps don't [CUT] in November, but would rather give comments and see how the student progresses with comments before [Cutting] them in December or even January. After being invested in a corps for 3 months (plus practice time for prior to November) I can understand why they wouldn't want to audition anywhere else after that.
  8. Good luck! I have a few students going to audition there as well. I hope everyone has a fun, and more importantly, educational experience this weekend.
  9. I prefer the Yamaha Baritone with a Dennis Wick SM3 mouthpiece. The combination is terrific.
  10. ugh - typed a sweet reply and it deleted it when I tried to post. This is what it boiled down to. My small program (>75) has abysmal feeder programs and I believe the only reason we are able to achieve any level of success is because I try my best to use the "eddie green method" that I learned from marching at Cavaliers. The only other option is that I'm an incredible music teacher, but I don't want to take that credit because I've only been teaching for 4 years and I still feel like I suck. end.
  11. Well - interesting... So now they have the same Drill designer, music writer, corps director, visual caption head as Boston in 2004.
  12. HAHA Nope sorry. I only check every few weeks tho - or when I need a laugh. I forget how long I've been a member, but I have very few posts for that amount of time... I wonder how many active lurkers have fewer posts.
  13. James is an excellent teacher. And a hilarious classmate. Good times.. I hope he reads this.
  14. I haven't watched it in forever... I'm just guessing here - but Brandon Marion would be my guess. He went on to march several years after that. I think he aged out in 05 or 06? It was emotional for everyone after that show... Even the people lying down. =D
  15. You all are SOO smart!!!! the end of melody-less music!!! cavaliers play loud again!!!! ... what is it 5 Championships in 8 years? they must have been doing something wrong! Props to Drew - he's got a tough act to follow.
  16. Ahhh!!! Finals are over here come the bad topics. Cya in 9 months folks!
  17. After the way those ladies were treated by the horn players all summer... I'd quit too!
  18. and then forget anything and everything your high school band director has been trying to teach you for the past 5-8 years...
  19. I Disagree. Machine was an incredibly polished show from beginning to end. PR was emotional.
  20. I picked most of my music for this season well before any corps started announcing their reps. I think in many cases it's just popular music is popular. This year we're doing 1812, Russian Christmas and Russian Easter. I think 2/3 were performed at DCI this year.
  21. Here I come to stir the pot.... I've seen shows from the 50s-70s, on Video. I would estimate that you could take any top 12 corps from modern day and teach an entire show from back in the day in a weekend.
  22. Cavaliers - will they break 300 sets this year? Only gaines' knows...
  23. Honk Honk! Cavaliers coming through (It's an even year folks!)
  24. You probably shouldn't quote someone's entire post (when it is very long) just to post TWO lines of response. "yadda yadda ... (Bulk of the quoted post cut) Yadda" You're line here End. To stay on topic- I would say that CI is probably the single most important thing to gain in the activity, yes it is influenced by many areas... but you gotta be so good to earn the respect of fans/judges/community. CI is like reputation. It's very difficult to build, and very easy to lose.
