  1. Great Allentown performance as usual from Regiment! Gonna be exciting when all the new stuff is incorporated!
  2. 2003 was actually Phantom’s first year on Bb! Pretty sure that was also their first year with King horns
  3. Almost completely off-topic, but here’s something pretty cool to jam out to while you wait for Phantom’s performance tonight:
  4. Oh also, if I understand correctly, not all the additions from the past few rehearsal days were debuted tonight.
  5. Gonna be fine! Hard night practically defined by wind, which detrimentally affects Phantom with visual due to the skirts (if I had to guess). GE is a question, but meh, that could change the very next night with different judges.
  6. I think we’re going to be seeing some nice little changes coming veryyyy soon now.
  7. I started digging and it genuinely shocked me. I knew it’d been a while ofc, but that long felt WRONG
  8. 90.90! Big jump! Highest score for Phantom since 2014!
  9. Ehhh, if it’s gonna be done, I like the way it was done last night haha. That one feels kind of awkwardly timed
  10. BD has the success they do because of their operational model. They have a lot of resources, they have by far the most stable staff in DCI, and they prioritize the member experience. Doing those three things at a very high level has allowed them to monopolize the activity. It’s of course very difficult and takes a lot of time, but the blueprint is right there. From the things I’ve heard, I think a lot of corps could learn a thing or two from BD and subsequently see their competitive results have success. As I said in another thread, if you wanna be the best, you gotta beat the best.
  11. As a Phantom phan, it sounds to me everyone else needs to get on BDs level. If you wanna be the best, you gotta beat the best, and no one is operating anywhere near the same level as them this year.
  12. Getting real close to 90, still two weeks out from Finals!
  13. Of all the takes I’ve seen this year… this is certainly one of them
  14. 100% a result of the staging they use being centered on the right 40 yard line and the mics being where they are. Does not sound like that in person haha
  15. It just hit me that this would’ve been the perfect year for Crown to bring back the creams! Ugh, what could’ve been
  16. The one thing that annoys me about this show is the long dang name. Should’ve just left it at “The Round Table” or “Echoes of Camelot.” Not sure it needed the colon!
  17. Cavies are MUCH better, but idk. This show (with the exception of the percussion ofc) feels like something AI would come up with if you told it to write a Cavaliers show. Like, yeah there are moments where you’re thinking “hmm, this is them” but there’s still a bit of lingering doubt in the back of your mind about the authenticity.
  18. 2021 gave me a lot of hope for them. Just felt like they found their identity then. Idk where they went.
  19. I think it boils down to fear of appearing too subjective, since there’s already so much concern and confusion in the community about what General Effect is and isn’t. Sub-captions are easy to point to and say objectively one is better than the other. That’s a whole lot harder to do with GE. I agree with you though. This show just oozes GE in my eyes. Very clear concept and flow from part to part. They did edge out Crown in GE 1 rep last night, but we’re still held back by performance scores in both GE 1 and 2, placing fifth behind Cadets. I would love an explanation of repetoire vs performance scores in GE because it frankly makes no sense to me.
  20. Coming over as a Phantom phan just to get y’all’s thoughts! First of all, HUGEEEE fan of the run-and-gun at the end. Classic Cadets. My big concern for them, though, is that this is sort of a Catch-22 if not rehearsed absolutely perfect. The way I see it, they’ve really got two imperfect options: A) They go all in and clean up this very complicated and cool drill, in effect sacrificing time that could’ve went to cleaning and other sections and sub-captions of the show. You’d leave the crowd and judges with a phenomenal final statement, but a lacking (ofc relatively speaking) product overall. B) They clean it a bit but don’t devote as much time as necessary to make it perfect so that they can clean other parts of the show, resulting in the last thing the judges see being a closer that is subpar in achievement. That would be the last thing the judges see before they write down the score. I love this sorta drill, but I don’t think it’s crazy to see why it’s sorta fallen out of favor in the past decade for drill designers and design staffs, especially when being officially added about two weeks from Finals. Just so little room for error, error which can have detrimental impacts for the whole show. What’s the vibe on it over here?
