  1. I think it's in DCI's interest to keep them as a world class corps. I've consistently said that more corps is better for the activity. DCI is better off keeping them in world class and letting them do whatever tour they want, versus giving the corps a bad rep with a demotion.
  2. Yeah but you pay for the product and Box5 has proven to be a more reliable venue for our activity than Flo.
  3. Maybe I’m wrong but I swore Box5 had a full season price option this year and it wasn’t like outrageous. I had noticed it after I bought the shows I was planning to watch.
  4. I understand that. What I’m saying is we as a society should do better to recognize actual culpability.
  5. I get what you’re saying, but again it was the individuals that were at the helm at the time that are responsible. The perpetrator and the those that harbored him as staff at the time. Can the organization not make progress towards ensuring that things like this don’t happen again? As far as the organization is concerned, they should be required to prove implementation of policies and procedures to prevent this from happening. Outside of that, those actually responsible should be held accountable.
  6. From 40 years ago. I’m sorry, but the organization that exists today, meaning board, directors, etc, are not the organization that existed then. The individuals responsible should be held accountable. Not an organization that has leadership no longer applicable to the situation.
  7. One can't just buck the reality that without the case at hand the organization had a greater chance of being able to continue within an activity that isn't easy to keep afloat monetarily. Whether right or wrong, factual or not, the case will be the ultimate downfall. That isn't victim blaming. This could have been a case regarding negligence for a horrific car accident the organization happened to be involved in that would have brought down the organization. The fact is a case was brought and it will be the downfall.
  8. I'm not victim blaming. I'm merely stating facts. This case is seeking compensation. The organization simply doesn't have the funds to be paying out compensation. Therefore, the organization will have to file bankruptcy and fold. It's simple facts.
  9. The court documents say enough to know motivation. The plaintiff seeks compensation. It's there in writing. If that is not the desired result, there were other avenues. All those victims that came out in the article against GH certainly affected change. Point being, this is about money and we will now be losing a drum corps in the activity because of it.
  10. I get that. But the complaint filed in itself clearly states the accuser is seeking compensatory damagers. It doesn't state that the accuser is seeking acknowledgement and correction. This is purely about money.
  11. Seeking meaningful change and acknowledgement from the org is good and well. However, based on the statement released from The Cadets board, that doesn’t seem to be the case here. This is monetary, the board is aware it’s monetary. They have tied their current financial situation to the case which means they know they will have to pay and the plaintiff is seeking compensation. You don’t walk into a mediation without already knowing the demands of the other party. The writing is on the wall and this is the destruction of the Cadets.
  12. I get the sentiment of the institution harboring the perpetrator. But in this situation, is the organization now the same organization as it was then? It isn’t. Board isn’t the same, staff isn’t the same.
  13. At what point do we recognize that the organization that exists today isn’t the same organization that existed then? Why is it we have to tear down what is the organization and instead of directing blame and action against those that are actually at fault?
  14. Maybe, maybe not. I personally find the bigger issues to be what I call “out credentionalizing (my word) of the music industry” as a whole and technology. For all the good technology has created, the bad is just as heavy. Social interaction is now immediate and you no longer have to go out and join a group to be social.
  15. Sadly, I foresee this being the end of The Cadets. Unfortunately, instead of going after those that are guilty of crimes, we have to tear down the whole organization.
  16. The year DCI came back post covid, they nixed all the NY state shows. Aside from travel, I was under the impression there were covid related guidelines/regulations in the state of NY that prevented corps from successfully holding shows there. They didn't have any NY shows last year either.
  17. With the way this topic has been going I figured I had best put the qualifier in so no one jumped down my throat.
  18. Annndddd getting back on topic, while the list presented on the first page of this thread is a great list and clearly has provided income to corps in the past, I think corps need to start getting more creative. More corporate sponsorships outside of the music activity. More income driven initiatives that aren't bingo halls, but maybe are more like bingo halls. VFW runs clubs, maybe a corps needs to start a club. All LEGAL options should be on the table in order to sustain the activity.
  19. I've been told the board is coming out with an update tomorrow (Wednesday) with more information and ways the fans/community can help.
  20. We as fans, supporters, drum corps fanatics, etc etc.
  21. I would argue that since CAE took over as the new organization overseeing the Cadets, they’ve been fiscally responsible. Nothing about this decision and communication shows that they are in dire situation. It was made based on the fact income for next season wasn’t going to cut it for expenses. It was a proactive decision. Not a reactive one.
