  1. Early 80's, Emerald Knights of Cedar Rapids... "We wanna live on a Santa Clara bus, a Santa Clara bus, a Santa Clara bus" to the tune of we all live in a yellow submarine.
  2. Please remember that there are families that go to DCI finals. My wife and I have three children who are not of marching age yet. Other attractions are important to us as sitting around in a motel room all day with children under the age of 12 is just not an option. Just another point of view.
  3. Correct. They tried to jump a couple of saders not knowing the rest of the corps was just around the corner. 1983 was my first finals (I came across from England). I had some nose bleed ticket but a bunch of us just crammed in on the 50 lower deck. The chanting of EAST-WEST back and forth with us shouting MID just before the WEST came again. Discovering nachos and jalapenos. Dave Tippet's chilli. It rained 2pm everyday like clockwork. Standing outside at 2am with sweat dripping off of my forehead. Watching a group of kids from Iowa see the ocean for the first time. Eating breakfast outside with geckos jumping me. The biggest darn bugs I have ever seen in my life.
  4. NEVER, EVER CHECK ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO LOSE. As a seasoned traveler between Chicago and London (20 years - I'm a Brit) I have had nightmare experiences with checked luggage. If it's valuable, carry it. Partially OT. Here's one such experience that's actually quite funny. After landing at O'Hare on one of those runways about a mile away from the terminal we were all loaded onto buses to take us to arrivals. I looked out the window and saw a black suit case on the road way. I turned to my wife and said "Look, some poor sod has lost their luggage." As we passed said crushed luggage it suddenly dawned on me that the red ribbon put on the handle identified it as ours! It took two days to recover it. So once again, IF IT'S INDISPENSABLE, CARRY IT. GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR AUDITIONS. Live the dream.
  5. Yep, they did some amazing things for the Emerald Knights the year we lent them some contras (close emcounters of the third kind year 1986).
  6. Back in the '80's a prominant figure in DCUK (John Broom) had close ties with the Madison Scouts. I believe he named his son John Madison Broom. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Wasn't there a character called Drum in steel magnolias? I just checked IMDB and there was.
  7. I'm using a MacBook with 10.4.10 and Safari and it streams just fine. Windows media player works just fine with flip4mac.
  8. EK/Nite Express marched through 96 then folded due to debt (bingo revenue collapsed with the advent of Indian casinos plus the directer spent money like there was no tomorrow). EK did re-emerge in 2001 but then folded after only one season.
  9. Is this Frank Gorman as in Mike Gorman's brother from Cedar Rapids? BTW Mike is/was the greatest marching tech I've ever come accross.
  10. I wish I had a picture however 2001 Emerald Knights uniform just rocked
  11. in 86 on a trip to Canada the Emerald Knights had one snare... Dave Oster. In 89 he went on to SCV and got his ring.
  12. BAC any year, SCV any year except the yellow plumes and drum trim year (I think that was the season after GR died), Garfield, and Suncoast. How about costume malfunctions? Was it '85 when Avant Garde had problems with velcro and changing lapel colors?
  13. Key to the Sea 1983 - my first drum corps show ever - Bridgemen, Garfield, SCV, BD, BAC, 27... I'm drooling just thinking about it!
  14. You don't hear the horns or the pit dut-ing. Nor your local symphony. Musicians ought to be able to internalize a pulse for a few measures, don't you think?
  15. You gotta admit the year after Gail died and scv drums were trimmed in yellow, the same color as the the plumes, that was pretty bad.
  16. On page 2, image 100_2040 you can see a keyboard of some type in the foreground.
  17. They are OK unless, of course, the shouter is right behind my. Ouch, my ears.
