  1. Thanks for your wonderful review. I appreciate how you highlighted the positive for each corp. My son, Geoff, is on the tenor line, 3rd year with PR. He reports that they had already started to learn some significant changes to both music and drill, but these were not put in for the Harrison show. He said that we would not recognize the show, the next time we see them. (Canton) Also learned from a guard member that the red panels are being taken out. This was our first time to actually see the show this year. We heard the music for the first time in Michigan city during their standstill performance. Sunday we went to Connersville to see the end of their practice, and go to see their run through from ground level. They are working so hard, and morale seems high. I think they were especially rejuvenated after their showing in Kalamazoo. I, too, am rather attached to last year's show. But there are several moments in this year's music that gave me chills. As they incorporate the changes and clean it all up, they will bring that same OMG sound and emotion into the closer (that we heard in Elsa's Procession), and PR will be contending this year.
  2. Thanks so much for your review. Given that we are in Ohio, and have yet to see PR, the reviews are much appreciated. We toyed with driving to Memphis for Sunday night, but work on Monday with no sleep....oh well :( Can't wait for July 3rd when we will go to Michigan City, Indiana. Our son, Geoff is marching his third year with PR, and ages out this year. GO REGIMENT!!!!
  3. Thanks so much for your review! Your description of Phantom made me drool in anticipation. My son is in the tenor line and ages out this year. We will not be able to see them until Michigan City, and its killing me to wait that long. So the review is especially appreciated, and thanks for being so positive.
  4. Hey Don: How disappointing.... :sshh: I am glad you were able to hear the Blue Coats, they're having a great season. We have family in Dayton, so we went to the Centerville show last night. Both pairs of grandparents, and Geoff's cousin were there. We also sat behind a couple ladies, retired music teachers, and that was their first ever drum corps contest. It was great fun to answer their questions, and see their responses as the evening unfolded. They were in total amazement after seeing and hearing Phantom :P Then we were blessed with an encore performance, and the most beautiful live rendition of Amazing Grace that I have ever heard. The Centerville show is a great venue, and not too far away. Keep it in mind for next year. By the way, this was the first time in 7 (?) years that Phantom has been at that one. Don't know for sure that they will be back there next year.
  5. Thanks for a very thorough review. I would say that last night's show in Indy was the best I've ever seen. The caliber of the corps this year is fantastic Going to Centerville Monday.....pray for good weather. Bluecoats home show was rained out tonight. I have already started to drool (and sweat) for Orlando!!!
  6. Thanks for your review. We were 5 rows up from the first row, and the sound was in our faces.....awesome! I think there was less reverberation being closer to the field. We could not really appreciate much of the drill from our vantage, but Phantom's crabwalk was right in front of us. That and the 360 seemed off; not sharp. From our son, they have more changes coming before finals. They still have alot of room for improvement, with cleaning drill, etc. They will be ready for Orlando! :P We had a nice chat with the lady from Michigan (euphonium's mom) who will be joining Phantom in Centerville, will finish the tour as their nurse. All in all, a fabulous evening for drum corp. Congrats to BD :) :)
  7. Thank you for the kind words re: Phantom's drumline. I know their horns are amazing, but I also appreciate reading people's impression of the drumline. Anything you can add about the tenors???
  8. Thanks for the time and effort you put into this review. Those of us far away (Ohio) really appreciate it when fans at the shows write about the contests. Will be at Indy this weekend :P
  9. Does anybody know the name of this jazz/rock song that Phantom played during their encore in Rockford? Is it the same one they played last year? "Another Star" by Stevie Wonder. I don't think they played it last year, but I could be wrong. Yes, Phantom did play Another Star last year.
  10. Why would they march an injured tenor, if he could not play? How would this impact the scoring? My son is one of the tenors for Phantom; have not talked to him since the Columbus show. No news of any injuries at that time. I sure hope no one is injured.
  11. Phantom's show is AWESOME!!! Of course, I am biased. I am looking forward to seeing the Scouts the Friday, here in Columbus. Who will prevail???? PR or Scouts???? Of course, I could drive to Harrison tonight...... don't have to wait to see the Scouts... What should I do?????
  12. Enjoyed reading the review from Toledo as well as the replies, i.e. disappointment after all the hype about the Cavies. Maybe watching the DVD from the 2002 finals over and over set up my expectations. If you have DVD and surround sound, crank it up and enjoy!! Seeing Capital Regiment and how far they've come warmed my heart. My son marched for them (tenors) their first two seasons. Four years ago, seeing their first ever performance at the Toledo show, hearing the crowd applause and support for the fledgling corp, seeing my son march in his first ever drum corp, I was instantly hooked. (By the way, that was my first drum corp experience, too.) Now Geoff plays tenors for Phantom, his second season with PR. We were blown away by their brass last night, and their drum line is back on track. The tenor line moved in together a week before the full corp camp, so they could practice, practice, practice, and its paying off. An elderly gentleman and his daughter were sitting behind me last night, and I overheard him describing his goosebumps and the tears in his eyes as PR performed. I had chills as well. That's what its all about........(cuz I know I'll never understand the scoring.)
