  5. Not sure I agree with you on this one...I would hardly call 85 a VERY weak show for them considering it placed second that year and probably would have won in other years. Personally, I consider that 85 show in the Vanguard top 5 of all time. Just my opinion though...
  6. Does anyone have a copy of the original 86 PBS broadcast, taped off of the TV? Not the one that Video Express released on VHS, but the actual broadcast taped off the TV. My reason for asking is on the original broadcast they showed short clips of the corps placing 12th down to 6th in semis. On the Video Express vhs release they cut that out, most likely because there was no reason to have it since the entire top 12 were on the two tape set. If anyone has that excerpt from the original top five broadcast of 86, could you post it??? Again it’s short clips of corps 12 thru 6 from semis. thanks!
  7. For drum corps fans who love marching band too - these two sets are still in great condition and hard to find! 1979 - https://www.ebay.com/itm/333643833189?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649 1981 - https://www.ebay.com/itm/333643831631?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649

  10. I know this isn't drum corps related, but it is something that a lot of you who follow ALL of the marching arts might be interested in...I downloaded the full finals bundle from 2015 Grand Nats and quality is pretty good. Lots of "drum corps" connections amongst the bands involved with staff, directors, etc. Announcing Music for All/Bands of America Audio Downloads We are excited to announce media.musicforall.org – Music for All’s new home for Music for All and Bands of America audio downloads for purchase. We’ve launched with Music for All National Festival concerts and the 2015 Bands of America Grand National Finals audio recordings, with more to be added. You can download an individual school’s performance, or a bundle of the entire Finals at a deep discount. Check it out.
  11. Looking for the following from 1999 1999 DCI Div. 2/3 Finals VHS set (2 tapes) 1999 Santa Clara Vanguard Tour Video VHS I had both but my copies bit the dust... looking to replace them if anyone has them available for sale or trade
  12. IBM did the recordings from 95-98...no Tom Blair, no Larry Rock, etc. those years. IBM meant well, and I’m sure they may have saved some money for DCI since those years things were pretty rough financially, but they did not have the experience to record drum corps. I think it was trial and error each year for them. 96 sounded like the audio was being played through a transistor radio from the 70’s. One good thing in 95 was that they released full quarters, semis and finals on vhs sets that year. The Video Express years before that only offered full quarters or finals on vhs. If you wanted semis, you had to buy each corps individually for $40... The bad thing for 95 was high camera wasn’t offered for sale to the public, although I have seen 95 Cavies high cam floating around on YouTube.

  15. Thanks! there are also DCI yearbooks from many past years on that site too...just search “Drum corps” and they come up.
  16. Wow, interesting read...I’m no lawyer either, but it appears to be a swift kick in the stomach to Tresona. I imagine DCI has its eyes on this as “fair use” and “education” is mentioned quite a bit in the document. Scroll to the end, and you see that it pretty much scolds Tresona for using scare tactics to get people to pay for their licensing service. This ruling could change things a bit in the future for bands, choirs, and yes, drum corps I imagine...
  17. It would be really cool if someday DCI was able to get the rights for the various corps that have been chopped up over the years due to sync rights issues and re-release those performances on a digital video download...I doubt a blu-ray release would be financially possible, but that would even be more cool if that happened :)
  18. It was the Cavies large train prop that dug the field up at Chester...then during intermission they inspected the field, saw Boston trying to bring on their large peg board props with wheels next, and that was it. Standstill time for the rest of the evening. And I doubt there will ever be a drum corps or marching band show there again...sad.
  19. Dinkles weren’t the problem at Chester...large props with wheels that put ruts in the field were.
  20. I’m a band director too, and I know that most of the bands in my area that are competitive do NOT use stock charts. Some that don’t compete, yes they may use stock charts, but not the TOB, USBands and Cavalcade bands. They have their shows arranged, composed, or the band directors arrange themselves and pay the fees. Most high schools are just like the corps, and some spend as much money for arranging as the corps do, and also have to pay the arranging license fees on top of that.
  21. For those that don't know, Tresona runs the Spin Network...on demand video of marching bands, etc. I am a subscriber, and watched their video of the day today: 2019 USBands Open class performance from Blackstone-Millville (nice show by the way). However, their opener was an arrangement of Wicked Game, the same tune that Boston Crusader's played in 2017 and was REMOVED from the DCI video's due to licensing. I was surprised to see that it could be included on a high school marching band performance on the Spin Network, but couldn't be included on a World Class DCI video?? There is probably more to the licensing issue so I'll plead ignorance, but I found it surprising either way. Anyone know why it would be ok on the one video but not on the other? Does it cost less if its on-demand video as opposed to blu-ray? Is it because Boston had a vocalist that used the lyrics and the HS band didn't? Not knocking the band, they had a great show, very impressed. I just don't understand why Tresona would be able to get the licensing for that completed, but DCI could not get it thru Tresona for Boston. Back to work now...
  22. Just got mine yesterday..yay! Kudos to DCI for basically giving me 2 day Fed ex shipping even though I paid for standard ground. They were shipped Thursday night and I got them on Saturday in NJ 🙂 The discs are outstanding as always - just the annual heartbreaking cuts for licensing: this year its Crown's ballad, which is awful for those two flugel soloists who nailed it all year, and Crossmen, which is less jarring but still annoying if you know their show well from seeing it all summer or listening to the CD's. Camera work and sound are incredible though - can't praise Tom Blair and his crew enough again this year. He keeps nailing it every year. Great Job! I watched SCV, Cavies and Boston last night and was just blown away with the detail, the sound, etc.
  23. Yeah, I ordered another DVD with this year's bluray, but they won't ship things separately as they become available like Amazon does...so, I knew I would have to wait for the other DVD until the 2019 Blu-ray was available. It appears that it doesn't matter how early you order either - its all about what shipping method you choose. Maingate is the one handling all that...I wonder if that will change when Pepwear takes over a lot of DCI merchandise.
