  1. Well, would you do two things, please: A. Ask that question somewhere else, and B. Please share your survey results and especially if you can find someone who actually believes and will admit that a number were acceptable (even if not realizing that the very question IS the trap!)? It really has nothing to do with the thread.
  2. Move on. But seriously, in my industry I was reading scenario studies from the farm management industry that suggested 250,000 deaths or more in the US, and global deaths reaching 1.5mm. This was not uncommon. By April, there were mainstream data and analytical companies plotting global GDP interruptions if the US saw 500,000 deaths. Also, these studies were many times looking at the global impact if it were, in fact, shown that...well, various global-influenced scenarios. You can imagine and get the point. Again, in my business, it's widely known that, by the time the story hits the mainstream news, the event is already over and the scenarios to accommodate and survive it have already been put into gear. Big, institutional money managers don't care about anyone's feelings or who's at fault unless it implies an additional global impact. Money moves like water in the ocean and don't be fooled - no one can "follow it". But, it appears to me that the smartest currencies around the globe are pouring into the US at astonishing rates and buying our government bonds, and confident investors have pushed stock markets nearly back to the February highs. Are these truths substantial enough for DCI to plan for the best by following the money?
  3. And to clarify, I think every corps, and the activity at the top, should proclaim that, as an activity, member fees will be returned to the extent they exceed the amount necessary for the corps, and activity, to plan and implement up to that point. If the tour gets cancelled before it starts, there's a significant amount that can be returned to the members so long as the drum corps' contracts have a way to cancel their contracts before the tour starts. If 2021 football, soccer, symphonies, (and that litany of "gatherings" someone else brought up) are banned across the US in November, then drum corps will have gotten a couple of camp fees, or maybe gotten tour fees very early. All of this can be calculated on a per-day basis, with every decision beginning and ending with what is in the best interest of the members and their financial payors, if not themselves.
  4. And what if the timing were such that DCI, and the activity it leads, could have and take the opportunity to lead performance music back, and maybe take the risk to do something truly new, refreshing, and better?
  5. Sorry, misspelled. Should be “with” a trap door... IOW, venues and vendors want to lock in commitments and DCI and the corps want a “no-spend” exit if need be. The real estate market is a good example.
  6. Again, how many were expected? Edit: none are acceptable. Move on. That’s not the thread subject.
  7. Between DCI, member corps, venues, vendors, and suppliers among others.
  8. Don’t you think you should replace “acceptable” with “expected”? Otherwise, it’s just bait.
  9. Frankly, I didn’t post it for your attention because I know you know I don’t have to.
  10. I think that Covid will be sufficiently under control by next year so as to prove DCI leadership, et al, will have been correct if they plan for tour with every precaution available up to the moment DCI can’t contract a show venue sizable enough to host. Then, if it has to be scrapped, a cascade of cancellations would take less than a day to cancel. I would think a contract with a trap door escape hatch for everyone is mandatory..
  11. I want it recorded that my refusal to reply to this post in no way indicates I may, or may not, hold any position or belief inferred or defined by this post.
  12. Believe me, where you’re going it’s nothing but dark and evil posts. NEBrigand is just Gods way of reminding you what you’re in for if you wander out of sardonic humor. Ha! I kill me.
  13. You could have been having a ball this whole time! Aagghhhh! Funny, all of the symptoms you have are also identified as a hangover. Have you been lubricating your confidence again? Seriously, if you’re serious, you ####-well better be typing this from the gurney outside the ER. Unless you’re actually twelve years old, in which case you’ll be fine (And that would help explain a lot of other things, too. 😆).
  14. I agree. I let this roll off because there’s no way to disprove it. But, wow, the odds are quite long. Sorry to you, Jeff, if you called them friends. I don’t know anyone who’s had it, much less died from it. Of course, I have only nine friends and one of them is the dog. So, what do I know?
  15. Oh, baloney. EDIT: Oh, wait. You defined the opposite, you didn't state your opinion of which is the correct stance. Very clever, and I've described no less of you. What you said is true. I'll retract my baloney until you share your opinion of which is appropriate for civil society and drum corps to follow?
  16. I don't think DCI has the luxury now of following what any other group chooses to do. Time is the cure here and just because WGI bails doesn't mean that DCI has to. Still PLENTY of time. I wonder... if each corps put out the notice that, effective immediately and until further notice, there would be (highly modified if required) in-person try-outs from November until January. If I were DCI, I would establish an audition schedule that gave time for cuts to find a home at another corps and hold corps to it: Top six by December 1st, 6-12 until Dec 15th, 13-22 until January 15 (or even Feb 1st). And I would negotiate a declining cost for cuts auditioning at second and third camps. Make it easy and worthwhile (aka: cheaper) to keep trying until they make a corps, if not their dream corps. All the while, DCI personnel should darn-well be staying in touch with the major venues (regionals, etc) to keep everyone in good spirits, planning, and being ready regardless of which way the decision goes. If they allow sports stadiums and other group gatherings, drum corps in stadiums is possible. (Wouldn't one have to say "Better" or "Safer" OUTDOORS?) Planning to make it happen takes all the time. Cancelling it takes minutes. In a weird way and slice of time in the universality, DCI might be thrust into the position of being a leader in the activity. Will they Box-5?
  17. It's amazing the lengths to which posters will go to distract from the biggest elephant in the room that no one is allowed to discuss. Adept or adroit, it's quite entertaining.
  18. Wait, huh? A positive and uplifting, complimentary post about the annual villain of drum corps (besides Dan A. and GH)? Did you know you posted this HERE? Have you been drinking your drugs again? DCP's regulars usually can't stand this kind of thing so you're going to have to re-think your participation here. (\sarcasm)
  19. Something tells me that 2021 is not going to be calm no matter what happens with CV-19. I like the use of "rolling first wave". It sounds very scientific and proven even though it's general enough to account for virtually any recurrence and imparts a modicum of authority to the user. Does it work on other forums? Because it's well-trod standard practice on DCP. I'd bet some prognosticator a cheap lunch that this years' Christmas spending season will be one for the record books.
  20. So, we can forget all the cleaning and fogging and surface scouring and hand sanitizer then? Probably save hundreds of millions of dollars.
  21. This is so good! I remember this effort very well! I'm going to go back and re-read this summary. Outstanding entertainment!
