Because back then corps didn't have exclusive endorsements from horn manufactuters like they do now. Why are they called tubas and trumpets? The answer is because king,yamaha,dynasty and everyone else wants them to be called that. This makes it easier to market these products to there target audience; High School Band kids that want to play on the same instruments that their favorite corps uses. Kids who have never marched corps don't know what sopranos and contras are, however they do know what trumpets and tubas are. It's marketing plain ans simple.

Ok then. That answers my question. I guess I just had never realized that the directors have prior knowledge of the outcome of scores before they are announced. Thanks for your response

I am confused as to how Mr.Hopkins knew that a mistake in fact had been made. Recap sheets were not out at that point in time were they? Maybe I just don't understand the scenerio, but I think it is pretty uncommon for directors or anybody to have prior knowledge as to what scores are before they are called out. I am not pointing fingers or accusing anyone of anything, I am just looking for someone to shed light on to what really happen. Does anyone know?

Does anyone else believe drumlines from the 70's are in fact cleaner than modern lines. To my ear drumlines play harder music, play more musically, and are in fact much cleaner than drum lines from the 70's. Anyone else have any thoughts?

Yeah, the are so overated that they took third in horns tonight and beat the blue devils by almost a full point. What is wrong with all of these idiots that think regiment has a good hornline this year. B)
