  1. I think its more than just DCA that needs to be investigating this. Instrumental music numbers are in decline nationally. Marching bands are getting smaller. Unless there is some way cool marketing for this activity making it popular with elementary and middle school kids then we are going to watch it die. There are so many other things that keep kids occupied these days. Couple that with block scheduling in schools and you see many music programs falling. Gonna be tough for DCA or DCI to recruit when there are no more marching bands to recruit from. The activity is a dinosaur and needs new life breathed into it. Electronics are one way to get kids interested. They understand them. They grow up with them. Not sure if this is what you are looking for Lee, or if its just some random rant from a HS band director who is fighting for every single student he can get when so many other activities are offered and are taking those students away.
  2. Nothing wrong with total world domination as a small goal. This is a relatively small planet :-P>> Looking forward to hearing you guys this year!
  3. John, of all the things in my life that I have done, being on that podium was one of the scariest. I thought I was going thru it or off of it several times during that show! If you looked at those planks afterward you could see the marks from my toes digging in. I felt like a parrot on a perch! I'll see you along the way this year I am sure!
  4. Good Luck this season Bush! Hearing lots of good things with the new programs! Looking forward to seeing you this season.
  5. Congrats on your move into open! This is a great model for others to follow on how to do things. Set small goals and build upon them. Looking forward to seeing you this season!
  6. "Bush...I know it has to suck that you didn't make finals. But instead you achieved something more...life. You were all but dead 5 months ago. yet you cobbled together some very dedicated, hardworking bodies, and by prelims, you put out a respectable show. battery especially played well, and the brass came a long, long way. if the membership issues had been resolved by March......that said, congrats on not quitting, and I look forward to see you wreaking havoc again." Thanks for the kind words Jeff. The Bushwackers are looking forward to being back in the thick of things next season.
  7. The Six Time DCA World Championship Winning Drum and Bugle Corps will be rehearsing Saturday March 19th at Caldwell College in Caldwell NJ. Key Poulan has done an outstanding job thus far creating a true masterpiece. The music has moments of darkness and brooding as well as joyous triumph. It is something that everyone can appreciate. There are still openings in all sections. Whether you are a twenty year vet or a first year woodwind convert this is a show that you will want to be a part of. If you are a music education major reading this, this is a wonderful opportunity for you to come out and work on your brass or percussion methods with some outstanding staff members. On Sunday March 20th the Bushwackers will be performing in Holyoke Massachusetts for their St. Patrick's Day Parade. We invite all former Bushwackers as well as any future Bushwackers to join us for this wonderful event. This parade is one of the largest in the USA. It is a great time to meet a lot of new people, play some music, and celebrate St. Patty's day as well as a great way to kick off the DCA performance season. If you are interested in joining us or know of someone who may be please feel free to check out our website and fill out a membership interest form. www.bushwackers.org 42
  8. The Bushwackers Drum and Bugle Corps will be having rehearsal March 5th and 6th at our beautiful rehearsal facilities at Caldwell College, Caldwell NJ. We have had successful camps in November, December and January and are looking to continue our Ascent. There are still openings in each section. Whether you are a veteran drum corps member or someone who has never played a brass instrument, the Bushwackers is the place for you. The music by Key Poulan is by far some of the most effective original music that I have heard for Drum Corps. For more information please feel free to check out our website at www.bushwackers.org Hope to see some new members at the next camp 42
  9. The Bushwackers Horn Line is currently accepting new members for the 2011 season. The brass staff at The Bushwackers are comprised of professional educators with experience in training non brass players to be brass players. If you are currently a woodwind player, string player, accordion player or bag pipe player we will train you. If you are a college music major looking to improve your brass skills for a brass pedagogy class this is definitely the place for you. If you are an experienced brass player you are also more than welcome at the Bushwackers. We will once again be doing an original show with music by Key Poulan. For more information about the Bushwackers please feel free to check out our website at: www.bushwackers.org Scott
  10. Looking forward to meeting all of the new Bushwackers tomorrow morning.
  11. Congrats to the Hurricanes on this pick up. Joe is one of the best musicians that I have had the opportunity to work with. Your horn line is gonna learn a lot.
  12. What can I say but WOW!. The Reading Buccs continue to impress and show why they are the class of DCA. We arrived around 2:00 and watched the corps rehearse. The rehearsal was run with efficiency. The hustle of the corps was quite impressive as was the professional manner that the rehearsal was run. The corps is full. 128 members. It is June and they are without holes. This is quite impressive in today's age of filling in spots throughout the season. The first performance was by the Buccaneer Alumni Corps. There were some really nice musical moments here, especially in the Russian Christmas Music. The competing corps was next, debuting their 2009 show Demons and Angels: The brassline plays well. The low brass has a very thick sound and will be the driving force behind this line. Not to say the upper brass isn't good, however there were some spots where they started to sound a little edgy. This was probably due to the end of a long weekend of running around doing Bobby Jones' drill. If the upper brass can finish as strong as they started the show this hornline will definitely be in contention for a brass trophy. The Percussion also plays well. The mallet warm-up was very cool and quite musical. The battery is good and the tenors are a step above the rest. Their feature in the show is sick., especially the hop. The Guard book is almost complete, which for this time of the year is always a good thing to see. The drill, once clean, will be very cool. For June this show is what a lot of corps want to be in late July. I am looking forward to seeing this show grow throughout the season and seeing what it becomes. Something else that was cool, was seeing the hundreds of people out for this performance. My guestimate would be around 300 audience members. The support team for the Buccs threw a great picnic. All in all the Buccs Friends and Family Day was a great time, with good drum corps, good food, and good friends.
  13. I think everyone is losing sight something that really needs to be mentioned. The Pirates, although not so good since the late 80's/early 90's still have 5 World Series wins and 7 World Series appearances as opposed to the Phillies with their 2 World Series wins and 6 Appearances.

  19. Nothing like the chewy air of New Jersey. Good luck this weekend Bush
  20. Someone should get this out to the oddsmakers in Vegas. I would love to see this up on the big board in the MGM or the Wynn. Scott
  21. Chris, Sounds like you have some great things going on there. Cool concept. I look forward to seeing it sometime this season. Scott
  22. Thanks everyone. I appreciate the help. Although I would have enjoyed watching all of my old DCI tapes, time just doesn't allow for that
  23. What year was the DCI broadcast where they hooked the tenor player from Star of Indiana up to the medical testing equipment? I am a high school band director and one of my students is arguing a point with his phys. ed teacher about marching band being a physical activity. Its for a paper they must present to the class. Thanks Scott Brown Director of Bands Northwestern Lehigh High School
