  1. Okay ... I'm tied up with a Tag Sale all day so, I'll just fill in the trivia song ... both the Bucs (1960) and Bpt PAL (1967) played "The Best Things In Life Are Free" ... St. Raphael's played the full version in the second half of their show ... the PAL played it as their Final Signature on the Finish Line ... :-)
  2. From Cliff "The Authority" RIchmond": Hello Andy: GREAT to hear from you!!!!!!!!! I didn't know PAL played "_________". I remember it from St Raphael's in 1960. Jim Donnelly wrote it, along with all the rest of the tunes ... PAL DID play "One of those things" in 1961. I don't know who wrote it for them "Dad" Ruge was horn instructor, and I believe Ray Chauchet worked with them I don't remember PAL playing "Rainbow" Buccaneers played it in 1960. (Another Donnelly tune). The "War March" fanfare was copied by PAL's horn guy and used in 1961 & 1962. Very similar sounding. :-)
  3. Checking things out with my main source: Cliff Richmond ... will report back on what he says ... :-)
  4. Actually Frank, the two arrangers were James Donnelly for the Bucs and John Sasso for the PAL ... :-)
  5. Brian ... don't think so ... the Bucs rep in 64 was Jericho, Gabriel Come Blow Your Horn, You Came To Me From Out of Nowhere, Victory March, Mississippi Mud, Cry Me a River, Up The Lazy River, It's The Right Place But The Wrong Time, How The West Was Won and The Shelter of Your Arms ... Andy hint ... St. Raphael's played it in 60 and the PAL in 67 :-)
  6. Well then, I guess there was two numbers ... don't remember Rainbow by either corps ... keep guessing at the other number ... :-)
  7. So ... here's a little tidbit for this "memory lane" thread ... St. Raphael's Bucs and the Bridgeport PAL were hometown rivals throughout their decade-long existence ... but, during that time, they only played one song in common ... can you name it? :-)
  8. Gotta agree ... every so often an interesting topic will pop up and people will contribute some interesting insights, but those are far and few between these days ...
  9. Hmmm ... is this anything like Phil Rizzuto doing the play-by-play for Meatloaf???? HOLY COW!!!! ... HE'S GONNA SCORE!!!! :-)
  10. Actually Fred, no one will win DCA BEFORE Labor Day weekend since the show is held ON DCA weekend ... c'mon now, you've been around long enough to know that! :-)
  11. Have Art Hylwa nominate Rich for consideration next year ... BHOF members are the only ones who can submit names and bios ... then let the process take its course ... :-)
  12. My mistake ... thought you were in the NYC area since you were asking for travel options to the stadium ... Sorry ...
  13. Was going to try and make the Bayonne show but, just too much painting going on at home in prep for selling it ... expect some major traffic tie ups with the Pulaski Highway shutdown starting today ... plan for alternate routes ... anyway, best of luck to all in Bayonne and Downington ... I'm sure it will be a fantastic day of competition and exhibition ... hopefully the fans will come out in droves as the season kicks into a higher gear ... anyone stopping at the Venice, set aside a cold one for me ... I'll pick it up on the rebound someday ... almost 8:00 am ... time to start the garage doors! ... :-)
  14. Sky Alumni will be at Riggins Field in East Rutherford 11-3 ... right off RT 17 ... :-)
  15. Then why don't you just ask the show sponsor directly ... what do you hope to accomplish on DCP? I was supposed to announce and got a TXT that the show was cancelled ... that was before 11:00am ... I had asked around 9:30 that morning because the forecast was for severe storms in the area from 5:00-9:00pm+... same for CT where I live ... so ... a decision was made to cancel (and not in a vacuum) ... plain and simple ... the forecast was dire ... we were all looking at the same radar stuff and it was not pretty ... and that's all there was to go on ... so ... you might not accept the reason ... but that's what it was ... the dire forecast ... :-)
  16. Hmmm ... they had FOOD there? ... somehow I missed that ...
  17. Thanks Jim ... that had to be it ... 2004 ... I had severe tendonitis in my right arm that night and stopped drumming for about three months after that show ... the distance to Victory seems right from there ... and I remember Cossetti being there also ... was probably with Reilly at the time ... who sponsored the show? :-)
  18. I'm really trying to remember if Victory was the place Sky's Alumni stopped in for an "after show" party around 2002-2003 ... can't remember if it was Reilly's or Reading's indoor show ... although for Reilly's we usually went back to their Post ... I do remember that St. Joe's was at the party because Eddie Reese was "in da house" ... and most likely other corps members ... the place was HUGE as I recall ... and did stay open pretty late ... Anyone else possibly remember? ... I know ... long time ago ... maybe other "post show parties" were held there? :-)
  19. Yogi: Hey Pep ... I heard yer show got rained out Pepe: Yup - no fightin' wit da judges tonight ... goin' straight to the party Yogi: Party? Pepe: Yeah - after every show, der's a party ... where all da corps tell each udder why dey didn't win ... and how lousy da judgin' is ... and whose legs der gonna crack next week ... small talk ... ya know? Yogi: After a game we just drank in the clubhouse ... and if we were rained out we drank in the hotel ... kinda the same I guess ... except we just drank by ourselves ... not wit the other team ... Pepe: What about yer groupies? ... Wern't dey at da party? Yogi: Groupies? Pepe: Yeah ... dames dat hung around da corps lookin' to have a good time ... Yogi: Oh ... dem ... we called 'em Super Fans ... amazin' what dey could do wit a bottle a beer ... Pepe: Yeah ... some of our "super fans" had no teeth ... Yogi: We had a team dentist ... so dat wasn't a problem ... Pepe: Looks like da rain stopped ... Yogi: So ... da show is on? Pepe: Nahhh ... we got a party waitin' for us! :-)
  20. I haven't heard of Rain Dates for a DCA show in years ... I feel sorry for the Kiwanis Club though, as this is a major fundraiser for them ... plus, I don't get a chance to announce tonight ... aaarrrgghhh! ... and Fran prepped me so well !!!!! :-)
  21. Interesting ... never realized that Argonne won back-to-back Nats in 71-72 ... Brian, I know in the 60's the previous year's winner had the option to go on last at finals regardless of where they placed in prelims ... could Argonne have used this to appear at finals in 72? ... I'm not sure if the rule stated that the corps had to actually "make" finals ... maybe they got around it somehow ... wonder if DCN had any articles on it ... hmmmm :-)
  22. ... looks like the Bridgemen, Optimists and Hamburg have it on their schedules as well ... :-)
  23. Hmmm ... maybe not blue, but in the mid 60's-mid 70's the Bucs mainly wore white satin blouses with a blue "sparkle" sash ... they switched to blue shakos in 65, which caused all types of comments from fans and alumni ... if I recall correctly, from 57-62, they wore a black vest over powder-blue "puff" sleeved shirts and long blue feather on their black "buccaneer" style hat ... 79 indeed saw the long blue coat introduced, which changed their look drastically ... but, IMO, blue was always a major part of the Buc's identity from a color perspective ... :-)
