  1. you know what would be a fun idea... having all of the members wearing their honor corps badges next summer at the shows. It would make it a lot easier finding the people we met this year. I don't know about anyone else here, but I am horrible at reconizing faces :P I mean the few that I got close with I will remember well, but it would be nice to be able to say hi to the other members of the corps too when we walk past eachother :)
  2. Not to mention, it has always been a parade shown in the morning. As far as the general public is concerned, it's a live parade, so they would have to tape it during the day in order to keep people thinking that it's live. yes everyone claims that bands and drum corps are almost the same, but every time i see a marching band, i don't see a drum corps. you have to remember that bands are trained to learn a new show on the fly, drum corps aren't. we learn one show per year (2 if you are guard and do the winter season). so yeah of course some marching band can throw it together faster. I very much resent that comment! we worked our a**** off for that weekend. the group wasn't even together for 24 hours before we did that performance. you can sit there and mock, but why don't you come out and do it next time and see how it feels when someone says you might as well have been "a low end high school band". that's just plain rude. I completely agree. DCI now knows what to expect from Disney, all of the arrangements and hassels will just be routine so I'm sure things will be smoother next year. ----- As for this whole thing, personally I had a great time, learned a lot about what it's like marching in a larger corps, what it's like doing a movie like film shoot, and how to just roll with the punches thrown at you. It was a great experience. At one point Dan A. was going around asking everyone how they would describe DCI as a whole. At the beginning of the weekend I don't think I would have had a very good answer, but by the end of the weekend when he asked us, I said "a community". It didn't matter what corps or div you were from, no one cared, we were a family regarless. It was nice! As for the publicity thing and how people would view us, I have a little story to tell you. The day that we were doing the filming, there was a lot of standing around and waiting. Well at one point Disney had the guard just doing drop spins as a background to Regis and Kelly. After we were done, I overheard a little girl say "Mommy that's soo cool". Now we are talking drop spins people, nothing fancy, yet that little girl was impressed. Who cares if it's not finals ready, we were not out there advertising to the people that already know all about corps and know what it should look like, we were advertising to the millions of kids that DON'T know what corps is. If that girl thought it was cool, how can you believe that there will be no other kids just like her. One last thought for you drumline bashers out there... When the movie 'Drumline' came out, everyone and their brother that didn't know corps thought it was an awesome movie and what they did was soo cool. Yet ask any drum corps kid and they will stand there and most likely mock the movie. If 'Drumline' can impress people, then we should have no problem. I know this post was longer than ever, but thank you to everyone who has complemented the corps, not chewed us to pieces, and has actually read my whole post. :P
  3. Maybe nervous was the wrong word...it's more like I'm getting antsy (thanks Kim :)) about it
  4. These are peices from the last e-mail that I received from Sue K. (DCI) "We are officially behind on the music and guard book up-load!! Your arrangers, JD Shaw and Rich Viano along with Jamie Oakly on color guard are all busy trying to put together the very best possible holiday production for you. We would rather be a little late and GREAT than to settle for a quick fix. I will certainly let you know when that becomes available within the next week or so. We think that since you all are all the incredible leaders that you are that you will have no trouble coming up to speed with learning the parts!!" ... "Finally, if you are color guard and have not let us know your uniform size, please do so immediately as we need to order your uniforms. Everyone else should be working with your corps directors in making arrangements to get your full uniform so that you can bring that down with you to Orlando. Horns and drums will be provided (thank you Boston Crusaders and Magic!), and flags are being ordered as we speak. Weapons will be sent for your practice as soon as we have them in hand and the work is posted (and you are paid up!)." Okay so I don't know about anyone else, but I am getting really nervous about getting everything at the last minute. This e-mail was sent about 3 weeks ago and we still haven't heard anything about our music or work. Oh and weapons...are we going to be switching equipment during the parade or do we have to learn 3 routines (one for each piece of equipment) and then audition for which spot we will be on? I'm sorry that I'm rambling but there are just so many things wirling in my mind right now and I don't want to bug Sue anymore because I'm sure she's got enough on her plate already with this whole thing.
  5. Actually the live parade which is the Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Parade for the public is on the Friday at 7pm but I don't know which park it's in. The Saturday performance is actually the filming for the Disney Christmas Parade to be aired on Dec. 25 on ABC
  6. Has anyone heard anything about the music or guard work because time is ticking and we have to have it perfect when we get there.
  7. Not everyone in Saints are younger ones :P
  8. Only one of the staff was a retired paramedic, that still leaves one person that is a paramedic and firefighter, a cop and the nurse that a still work
  9. i don't remember there being any senior corps there, but there were a bunch of other exhibition performers :) who knows what next year will bring ;)
  10. That wasn't very nice Chrissy, Kyle (cakemix) is a good guy.
  11. I think Chris has probably moved on with his life since those days which is kinda a shame :( He was a good guy ^_^
  12. This was my first year with The Blue Saints, but I was very relieved to find out that the director of the corps is also a paramedic/voluntary firefighter. So because of his job the corps also has an amazing first aid kit. If anyone knows whether a kid needs to go to the ER or not, he does :) Also this year we had a retired paramedic doing the cooking on first tour, one of the mom's is also a nurse, and one of the drum instructors is a cop from Toronto. So I'd say we were really well set B) (And we were only a little 31 member div3 corps :P)
  13. There are actually 2 parades on the scheule. One is going to be performed live on the Friday the 2nd (Mickey's Very Merry Christmas) and the second one will be taped on the Saturday to be aired on Dec. 25, 2005 on ABC (Walt Disney World Christmas Parade). They are welcoming family and friends with open arms for the 4 days. The packages for members and non-members include a 3 day park hopper pass (for friday, saturday, and sunday). Go to GET Travel for all of the details.
  14. I think it is awesome that instead of chosing a single corps to represent DCI at the Walt Disney World Christmas Parade that they are taking a few members from each corps in all of DCI to have the honor. For those that have been chosen, CONGRATS! For those that haven't, or aren't eligible to participate, are you going to go down south to support the DCI Honor Corps (and have a little park hopping fun at the same time)?
  15. About all of the 'hard work' they would be putting in, it would probably be a recording for rehearsal and like #### they would sleep on a gym floor, they'd have their regular tour bus that's all decked out with beds and a big screen tv. so saying that they would see all the work that there would be to do and not do anything with corps because of it is just another excuse to diss this thread. they did it in the movie Drumline. and yes I know movies are fiction...however a lot of them also start trends. Yeah this whole topic may seem really out there, but I'm sure amps seemed really out there in the early 90's too. oh and for the record, I don't necessarly agree with the topic, however nothing is impossible...out there maybe, but not impossible.
  16. SHHH! :sshh: lol let say we don't tell the big guys about that part ^_^
  17. As someone that will be aging out next year, I think this is a great idea. But at the same time not if it replaces going out on that field and standing in uniform proud as #### to be out there. I've been looking forward to walking out onto that field with all of my peers for a long time and the thought of that not happening is unimaginable. Just my two cents.
  18. I just can't stand this whole mics/amps thing. Especially when the original reason for them being placed on the field was supposed to be to amplify the keyboards. Now they are used for just about anything and it is wrong! I think designers have started to get lazy...hence the naration. They don't feel like writing a great show that tells the story to the audience through the performance so they just have some kid in the pit tell the story to us. YAWN!!! Honestly, I was not impressed with Div 1 this year. I felt that there were a lot of hot dogs out there. When it came time to watching the corps which were once my favourites, I was falling asleep because it felt like I was being told a bedtime story. I'm sorry if there are people out there that don't like what I have to say, but hey...this is MY opinion and I'm entitled to it.
  19. If someone could send me a list of blue saints recap scores via e-mail i would really appreciate it. wrilly@rogers.com Thanks, Trisch
  20. i didn't get to see a lot of different uniforms this summer, but i really liked Patriots guard uniforms!
  21. i completely agree. i did the same thing to make my switch. i believe someone said you can get one from www.kanstul.net
