  1. None of these drumlines have even been in contention for the drum title in the last several years. I obstain.
  2. I have a Remo Tendura head on my snare at home right now. As far as I can see(and feel), the only difference about it and the old Premier Tendura that I pulled off my drum are the name.
  3. Has anyone tried the Remo Tendura head yet? I put one on my drum at home and I absolutely love it. Its feel is inbetween the Falam and the Max heads.
  4. We were cranking the #### out of the heads. I was also surprised that the White Max heads held up better to the tension, but I'm not complaining cuz the heads worked well for us.
  5. For the last two summers, my line has tried to use the Falams, and they just pulled too easily. We had to replace about 2 heads at every show for the first 2 weeks of tour until we switched to the White Max. After that, it was smooth sailing. Has anyone else had this problem?
  6. I marched in a Pipe Band for a while and how the left hand was described to me was like holding a pencil, with the the pads of the thumb and pointer finger coming in contact. Then again, this could be wrong but that was how I was taught.
  7. To seriously get your left hand not only playing notes, but also looking good while doing it, you should try to find and instructor that marched snare in drum corps that lives around you. I know that is sounds like a dumb idea, but as you said your chops are still good, all you need help with is holding the stick. With all of the little things that goes into the PROPER left hand traditional grip, thats what I would do.
  8. i tried a heavy hitter pad and I don't like then at all. They feel great for a while but a sumer on tour wears then out. The laminate fell off and the pad feels horrid now. I have a real feel but I still like my "Prologix" Pad. It has a laminate that held up over the summer and is still kicking.
  9. I guess the question is how experienced is the 15 yr old? If he has never marched before, then simply marching (with great technique) while playing a book of that calibure could be a challenge.
  10. The four main lines that are always in contention are the Cavies, BD, Cadets, and SCV . but I think that Phantom has a good chance of moving up and I plan to see the Bluecoats make a move towards the top, now that Mike McIntosh (former caption head of the Cavaliers) has moved to the Bluecoats.
  11. Watering the parts can only go so far. Sometimes you have to cut parts out all together. If there is dirt in between your snares and tenors, it might be a problem with listening and phasing due to locations on the field. I definitely agree that the parts need to be watered if the players aren't hanging, but sometimes you just have to cut the part as well.
  12. I've used it before and its not too bad. The pad that I'm using currently was made by a friend of mine who owns a local drum pad company in Canton, Oh. I like it better because I think that it gives a more realistic feel and it is made to fit in a snare basket, which makes it easy to practice while standing or sitting. The company's name is Pro Logix Percussion.
  13. I think that the Cavies have been playing musically for a number of years now. Everyone is always commenting on how mechanical they look, and I'm not sure how to take that....is that a compliment for playing consistent or a knock on them for playing consistent?
  14. Do you think that Mike McIntosh will make any difference (good/bad) in the Bluecoats drumline this year?
