Worst Year for DCI Performances?
Jeff Ream replied to Tom Brace's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
well the top 6 have me in 94. after that....nothing has ever grabbed me since. seemed like too many corps below 6th were trying to do 93 with different tunes -

yeah, ya know, 05 was rather blah -
I would think it'd be a good idea given the many new hotels not that far from the venue. My one concern, other than past drama and feelings of those involved on the DCa Board is where to do I&E. You arent getting into HersheyPark without paying their outrageous admission, and neither arena is accoustic friendly for that kind of thing and is horribly expensive. Plus...you have the Park still open which means parking could see people stuck all the way out by the Giant Center
-
problem with Allentown is the Fair is going at the same time. Which means that hotel availability is not good, and parking at the stadium is not nearly as user friendly as it used to be.

I think a year or two of big regionals is absolutely the way to go.

I know paetec has had more than 5k. with the economy this year, i can understand if attendance may be down. Scranton was about 6k concert side, and Paetec holds more than that

and the corps wouldnt make as much money if they had 4 hour rides as opposed to 20 right now. that's fact. finals with 3000 people doesnt make them as much money as finals with 7000 people does
-
exactly. you have PA people who dont go to NY for finals. you have NY people who dont go to PA for finals. imagine if 75% of both groups didnt trvael to say Nashville for finals. Is the local market that familiar with DCA to pay finals ticket prices to come out and support? the problem here is if the local market isnt ready, the corps lose out. Winston Salem, totally unfamiliar with DCA, had 3000 or so folks show up...at $40 a head. Now...how many of us trvaelled down there to see the show? Had to be a few hundred. Now, how many people from upstate NY would go for finals? Not enough to make up for how many of them go to Rochester, and Winston Salem didnt show they were prepared to pick up that slack. I'm all for moving finals out of the traditional base of operations...when it makes sense. What out of NE region show...DCA only...has drawn more than 4000 fans to a show? 3000 other than the NC show? 2000? we hear all this talk about moving it, but no one EVER puts up the stats to show they have the fan base built up enough to replace those from up here that won't go. so...since no one ever offers the proof why they should have it......wonder why you dont see a lot of bids from folks asking for it?

well, we did have finals for many years in Allentown which sold no beer. didnt seem to stop people from coming
-
yet many of those corps who never ake finals keep churning out corps year after year, some of them rather large. And let's be honest....the marketing of DCI is all about WC. So if you are financially stable, it makes sense in today's climate to go WC where you can get more exposure and more money. or you can keep being in the middle of Nebraska the 2 weeks before finals with little exposure and often getting paid nothing to appear. I'd go WC, and get the financial base to get the staff to help the competitive aspects grow. I dont think any kid in Surf this past summer will complain about being 20th place. They got to play in stadiums they never would have in OC, and the corps got money for appearing there.

or many of us will think it was brilliantly designed and incredibly performed, but still boring as hell. I give em props..they designed a great show. Just not one that thrilled the masses like some past championship shows have done. It's a tough thing to do...to design one to win and get the full crowd to go nuts.

agree on all parts but one: in many cities, look where the arenas, stadiums and sports plexes are located. not so nice parts of town
-
except Paetec holds over 7k, maybe closer to 8k on concert side
-
true...but Philly airport is right up the road and so is dozens of hotels.

and a tenant that plays on weekends
-
Ohio at this time I feel is more realistic
-
I wont lie...everyone else seems to be putting in stuf close to them, so why I can't I? Plus since out of NE areas can't won't release attendance figures, I'm not sure moving out of the region yet is a wise thing. If I were Bucs, I'd check into it.

use the 55

I am hoping someone in PA submits a bid for the new soccer stadium just under construction south of Philly http://philadelphiaunion.com/Content1.aspx?cid=4.0

competitive placements have basically zero to do with becoming World Class. It's about the business side of things
