  1. I love this years warm-ups. Goes much quicker that the old ones and I think we warm up better.
  2. I'll be there! Can't wait to get more music. (note to self:...........practice.......)
  3. I know I may be biased but ,while not the largest line in DCA, I personally think MCL's Contra line has some serious power.
  4. Yup....some people got cut. Not sure what they are thinking but with those kinds of numbers I don't think I'd be cutting anyone yet.
  5. Open House was fantastic. I think it was the best turnout we've ever had. Brass already sounded great. Battery was looking and sounding sweet and the guard was kickin' it. Next meeting is Dec. 13-14. Come on out and give it a try. You won't be disappointed.
  6. 1 1/8 days!!!! I can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  7. I can't wait for the season to start. Looking forward to seeing old friends as well as meeting some new ones.
  8. I didn't mean your comments specifically Chris. It was just a general comment about the old intonation argument. I know that any set of horns can be tuned given time. I just found it odd that most of us are used to Bb horns and only play Gs in Corps and we had a terrible time tuning. I thought it was odd.
  9. MCL (I think these are correct) 70 total 38 Brass 5 Contras 1 Tuba 7 Mellos 13 Sopranos 1 Trumpet 12 Baritones 8 Guard 4 Snares 2 Tenors 4 Bass 7 Pit 1 DM 5 Honor Guard( I stand corrected Stephan )
  10. The old argument that Bbs are easier to tune than Gs is BS. When our Mini Corps picked up the Bbs to play it was terrible. We spent more time trying to get them in tune than we ever spend on our Gs. l'm still not sure we ever really got them in tune with each other sucessfully. Long live G bugles!!!
  11. MCL is definately on G horns. However our Mini Corps did play on Bbs only because we didn't have time to transpose the music. We were not particularly happy about it but I guess it turned out ok. The field Corps however will remain on G as long as we can.
  12. Thanks for the great review. We were VERY surprised by the crowd reaction as well as our placement considering we only had 3 1-2 hour rehearsals and a quick run thorough of the music that day. Joe and Vinny are both amazing soloists but I believe the dedication and talent of MCL's horn line was evident as well. Thank you to all of the fans, old and new, for a fantastic experience. Congratulations to all of the other corps for shows well done. I didn't get to see all of you but I've heard nothing but good things. Keep it up and we will see you all next year.
  13. Great night on the field for MCL. Not a great night for scores...........
  14. They are the same thing. They just changed the name a few years ago.
  15. Not really sure but I heard there was some kind of electrical problem with the switch or something and they simply wouldn't come on. I know it was quite a shock to walk out onto the field and see no yardlines, hashes or anything unless you were facing backfield. It also made it very difficult to read the yard markers on the sideline. And fun was had by all!!!!!
  16. Yeah they got lots of room for buses. They are in a strip center. Also there are quite a few other places nearby but not sure how late they are open.
  17. Yes, but the scores themselves have now been removed as well. I'm not trying to start anything here. I just find it interesting. It's all good.
  18. Our brass score from the VA show 3 weeks earlier was a 77. The score from the Jacksonville show was a 48. I also find it interesting that now that recaps are up on the DCI website that the "All-Age" corps scores have been deleted. Methinks DCI thinks something is amiss also. I'm just sayin'...... Also on DCA sheets Total Brass is 400 not 40.
  19. I can agree with this Jerald. Most of the time I believe MCL has been fairly judged and we've gotten good feedback from the judges. In this case it was one judge who gave us a really crappy score with little or no explaination as to why other than he just didn't care for our show. Oh well..."Tomorrow is another day" ($1 to RJ_CVMellophone)
  20. I'm not saying that I'm a trained judge......but that is my point also. All of these judges are supposed to be trained to do what they do. Personal opinion or bias is NOT supposed to be a part of their scoring process. However, I have seen it all too often where a judge simply doesn't like a show and tanks the score because of that opinion no matter how well you performed. And it is even worse when they do that with no expaination as to why. Thank you RJ. I don't mean to sound bitter but I guess it's hard not to be. We will move on and put this show behind us. We look forward to seeing you guys this weekend.
  21. Well don't look for DCI judges to be the best! Not exactly sure how you can have the best performance you've had all season and get tanked 30 points in brass by a judge who basically said we'd never see him at a DCA show so what did it matter. Yes......a formal complaint is in the works!
