  1. This is my first review. I'm still recovering from the weekend. So, be kind if I am a little fuzzy. I was at both Long Beach and West Covina. I didn't get to see all of the corps at the shows as I was either performing with the Renegades or I was getting changed. Here is what I have for the shows that I saw as well as impressions from friends I met up with in no particular order. Velvet Knights: We loved their entrance onto the field. The New Orleans funeral march was hysterical. Great job on that guys. The wailing and falling to the knees was classic. I was also curious as to what the tenors were doing on the back sideline. Whatever it was, I saw it. I also loved the opener. I didn't march that year, but I had visions of Renegades 2003. It was very powerful and cool. The thriller dance was a great laugh as well. All in all, a favorite show for the night for the story line. As far as sections, I thought that the drumline seemed solid to me. The hornline had some powerful moments, but seemed to lose confidence in parts. That shouldn't be a problem once they get this show under their belts. The guard lost character when they were spinning and moving in forms. When they were in character, they were great. I think they need to work on keeping the performance going throughout the entire show to keep our interest. Thriller...OMG!! Thank you for the laugh. Pacific Crest: Great hornline, drumline and guard. The guard is not to Independent World level like we see in SCV, BD and others, but a very solid and entertaining HS world guard. My one issue is that I think the guard uniforms and flags are really busy. If the guard is not clean, it will make them look a lot dirtier than they really are. So, work hard on making that show spotless. You really can not miss the guard in those colors at all. The drumline was fun to watch as well. To take me away from watching guards, it means that you are doing something right and something cool. This was my other favorite show of the weekend. Impulse: They did a show called "The Game". Not being familiar with the music, I really didn't understand the vocals during the show. It reminded me of a "bully" teasing the "little guy". I kept trying to figure out who the "little guy" was. I thought that the guard of 5 or 6 members had a lot of heart. Their work seemed quite a bit over their heads. I am not sure if they have the skill set to achieve the show. I give the staff a little credit for giving them a chance to try that level of work but I think it's time to let them have a clean show. The drumline was great and very entertaining. I was very scared for the horns that stood on the folding chairs. On saturday night, one or two almost fell. I was holding my breath the whole time. Overall, this corps has heart. I like that they try to have fun with their shows. Stick with that formula, and keep up with the training. Gold: The music was not familiar to me, but I thought the hornline made it interesting and entertaining. They had a great power to them, even though they were not a huge corps. I loved it. The guard and drumline were both very talented sections. My friends and I were speculating that Gold must either have a great winter program for the guard and drumline, or are able to pull from high schools that have great winter programs. You can see the quality in those two sections for it. Great job guys. Mystical: To be honest, when I first saw this group, I didn't even notice that they had 7 horns. The design of the show was very clever to make up for such a small hornline. Plus those kids did not sound like their were seven horns out there. I could swear there was about 20 or so on that field by the sound. Well, by the end of the show, you could hear them getting tired. That is when I noticed the small hornline. Get that stamina up, and I probably wont notice next time. Good job guys!! This is another corps with a lot of heart. I wish I could have seen the other corps that came on right after I performed. I hope that all of the performers last weekend had as much fun as I did for both shows. It was a great trip for the Renegades. I am sad that the California show season is coming to an end after next weekend. Great shows everyone!! Than you.
