  1. March of Champions at Baltimore's Memorial Stadium used to really pack them in too. Many thousands, year after year. Only problem there was trying to keep lines parallel to the sideline since the curved stands would take over your perception of the sideline ( first base line), leading to a lot of tics on the field and comments from the GE M&M judge way up in the stands. Ray
  2. Well, it was a great day in Hasbrouck Heights. Lots of folks having a wonderful afternoon and listening to some marvelous performances. Thank you to those who attended and helped to make it another successful Metropolitan Championship! Start planning for next year now. Ray
  3. Hey folks, we're down to one day and a wake-up (gee, where did THAT phrase come from? It's been a few years!) until THE show! Hope to see you there on Saturday. Ray
  4. Looking forward to seeing a great many of my friends, on-line and off, on Saturday for a good day of drum corps fun and assorted beverages. Will YOU be there??
  5. Now THAT would be one of the finest snare drum showdowns of all time. Perhaps, one day.....................
  6. Had a nice phone conversation with Mitch Markovich on Saturday, but he can't be there next Saturday. Looks like the snare title is still up for grabs. Will it be YOU??? Only 5 more days and a wake up!
  7. Be there!!! Don't want to compete but want to show off your chops? Be there! There will be exhibitions only, beside the competition. Looking for a great afternoon of drum corps history and stories? Be there! Just want to see old friends and share a few adult beverages? Be there! Want to meet some new friends and share stories of "Back in the day"? Be there! Hope to see many of you there for the afternoon. Ray
  8. Yup! I drove around in LA some years back and the drivers there made NYC cabbies look like the most courteous drivers in the world!
  9. Andy, "Mice" was St Rita's. Sun's Hy tribute was "Old McDonald". Screech was with the T-birds in '63 and '64, went to LFC for '65 and '66. John was one of our first "imports", he came down from the Bronx to the Island and Pete Cappazzoli, another lead sop, would travel up from Asbury Park. Had a few others from Elizabeth, NJ and the Bronx and Queens, NY. Methinks a few too many merlots is creating fuzzy thinking ( a no, not THAT Fuzzy either) ???
  10. Ballentine Brewers, Princemen, Brewers again and then Vasella once more.
  11. Relly getting ready ( and yes, they did wear white blouses then), Brigs on the field, next is Syracuse Brigadiers and then Princemen.
  12. Looks like Vasella Musketeers, St Lucy's and St Kevin's for these 3.
  13. According to some photos on FB - Drum Corps of the VFW and American Legion, it is the Monroe, Ga. HS All-Girls drum and bugle corps in 1959.
  14. That guy was Dr. Bernard Baggs of Bergenfield HS and a bugle judge of reknown. Many corps have marched in that parade over the years. '63 had Skyliners, Caballeros, Yankee Rebels, Blessed Sacrament, St. Kevin's and Garfield. Nice line up and all got good TV time. Have checked and NBC no longer has the tapes of that parade. ####, would love to have a DVD of that year's gig.
  15. Wynn Center was a PAL corps. Usually, the corps colors in NYC would indicate whether it was a PAL corps or not. Black and green were the predominant PAL colors here in the 5 boroughs. I believe the Scarlet Lancers from Queens were also a PAL corps, but their colors were red, black and white. There's always an exception to the rule, LOL
