  1. Didn't Brigadiers financially sponsor Magic for a couple of years?
  2. I did a review after their May concert in Allentown where I made that comparison. After seeing the gimmicks that have been added, I don't think it holds any longer. Mike Boo said one had to take Stonehenge for what it was. This show struck me the same way when I heard it, but then schoolgirls and doors and backward uniforms TOLD me how to take it and it lost something.
  3. That's OK. I sat in the stands at Finals in 1975 and we all had great sport counting the blanks in the 12 who weren't DQ'd.
  4. Using this as an example is like having Lizzy Borden doing a public service announcement for axe safety.
  5. I think the Cabs/Muchachos thing proved some basic human nature; you can't have two programs that are successful under the same umbrella. When the Muchachos were a "feeder" corps for the Cabs things worked great. When they began pursuing their own objectives they had to go their separate ways, because they no longer had a common agenda.
  6. The Rosemont Curse? I think they left it in Park Ridge.
  7. It adds to the relaxed nature of DCA. Most of us would rather have chatted with Jaimie Cutrone, when she was with the Hurcs though (no offense).
  8. I find the concept clever. Anyone who's been around DCA for the past forever can relate it to Caballeros DM Jimmy Russo "working the crowd" before their performances. I thought that was a nice touch, and this a more creative extension. I'm still a little uncomfortable with the "school girl" symbolism though. With a show about dreams and nightmares, it's not difficult to see the image taking a wrong turn. Or maybe It's just the over-protective father/grandfather in me.
  9. Cross has had other pooches of note. I forget it's name, but Robbie had a miniature poodle that toured with the 1980 corps. Very entertaining and smarter than many drummers I know :P Glad Chachi is recovering.
  10. Redskins fan aside, it worked out for the best. The UM field had better acoustics than FedEx and better sightlines.
  11. I agree completely. Peacock Variations and the other Kodaly segments (I obviously can't recall which ones at the moment) worked well and people outside the activity actually listen to them. Besides, Kodaly was a fascinating character. Not quite Wagner, but close. :mmm: If it makes you feel better, some dweeb at the souvie stand that year started ranting about the "boring" show. After talking for a while, I discovered that Holsinger was like a god to him. b**bs
  12. Has anyone noticed that while we've been discussing Scouts' ascension that BK is moving up on the outside? They passed Glassmen last night, which they didn't do until championship last year. Is this year a continuation of last. I really liked them at finals, although as a geezer I'm not supposed to. It'd be nice to see them break into the Boston/Crown/G-Men mix. Besides, they get high website from me!
  13. Except that Pamper has fallen off again. War & Peace, Hair, diversity. He deserves it.
  14. I voted for the Borodin show (under threat of serious injury from my cat, Prince Igor) but I'm hoping for: "2006 - Ring of Gold - The Music of Richard Wagner"
  15. Does that mean you'd say no to the others? Can't imagine anyone who's been around not recognizing Robbie. Hopkins, Hannum, Thompson etc. all emerged under his guidance. As for Frank Pamper; Sie Lurie and Don Warren are in. The three of them dominated the Midwest, and therefore the activity for a decade.
  16. OK, with Frank in, I'll buy it. I guess his line would be: Frank Pamper - Longtime director, visual designer and instructor of the Des Plaines Vanguard. Visual designer for the Schaumberg Guardsmen and Finleyville Royal Crusaders. Founding member of DCI.
  17. Al - Seeing your name reminded me of another good pick: Robbie Robinson Sr.
  18. Rondinaro contributed significantly through his broadcasting. Many in Miami would say he was a good............anchorman.
  19. Frank Pamper. I don't know why all of the founders weren't added in the 1st couple of years.
