  1. Did you read my post at all? Did you realize the context in which I was using the Nazi reference, and the reference to Kristallnacht in plain English? It was a joke, Madame Butterfly, live a little! Not every thing is plain and simple like biscuits and grits, with a swill a moonshine boy howdy.
  2. Ahem, well it's a very good piece, very long. It hasn't bleh like the Jeremiah symphony which isn't really a symphony, more of a suite. I don't know why musicologists haven't ripped him apart on that.
  3. Ahem, I understand lulz. I Ron Paul up and down /b/ like nobody's business, SO SOOOOOOOOORRRRRRRRY IF I FIND IT MORONIC WHEN I'M TALKING ABOUT BERNSTEIN LAWL LAWL DERP! Anyway, have you guys heard Bernstein's 2nd Symphony, it's quite good!
  4. I think Finals will be this......... 1) Blue Devils 2) Cavies 3) Phantom 4) Cadets 5) Crown 6) Bluecoats 7) Santa Clara 8) Glassmen 9) Blue Knights 10) Blue Stars 11) Crossmen 12) Boston/Madison
  5. I can't stand Cadets 2000-2003 (seriously, I hate them), Cadets 2005-present is MUUUUUUUUUCH better. If people just don't happen to like it, why should someone like me be deprived just because some Nazis want their Night of Crystal.
  6. Is it imperative that make so many neanderthal quasi-internet lulz posts when you speak here? I'm really trying hard to circumvent insulting you, and oh is it hard, because I don't want the mods to get mad at me, but I don't understand how you think as an "adult" that you can talk like that in a pseudo-civil discussion and get away with it. Seriously? "zomg"? Really?
  7. This is so stupid, ANYTHING could happen next year! People thought SCV was going to tear everyone a new ######## in 2005, then WOOPS they had the worst show they'd ever had since making DCI finals in the 70s.
  8. Anyway, I don't think any of the music this year is particularly interesting. Actually I don't find drum corps interesting in general, but that's another story for another day ^_^
  9. Conquest has been the unofficial "other" corps song for Boston for.....I forget how long. A #### long time! Anyway, it's a big deal, it's unfortunate that it's hacked into the show the way it is this year, it's so annoying.
  10. So Hopkin's cheerleader daughter is now the chief intellect in these matters? I'm moving.
  11. The corps can't help what score they get. This isn't an exact science you know.
  12. I don't care how funny you think it is, don't derail my god #### thread.
  13. As opposed to all the other drum corps that dare to challenge the expansive intellect of the average drum corps fan with shows about Rocky and Codas to overplayed orchestral lit?
  14. The truth hurts I know, but it's okay, there are other things we can like :) I understand if some people might get kind of sore with my opinion, but I really do think this.

  16. Here's what I think is going to happen The Cadets are going to play stuff from West Side Story, but they're also going to play stuff from Bernstein's lesser known Symphony No. 2 "Age of Anxiety". The show will parallel both the life of Bernstein and the history of the Cadets, and there is going to be a #### load of narration, and do you know why? Well the answer to that is easy, what the audience thinks doesn't matter. I'm not saying this to be ironic, or controversial, or rude, or mean, or to rock the boat, I'm simply saying what I think to be the truth. When Michelangelo painted the Sistine Chapel, I really don't think he was thinking, "Oh man, I can't wait until the common peasant looks upon my work and bows down before me!" No, do you know why? Because he was ####### Michelangelo!!! Now I'm not comparing Hopkins to Michelangelo, I'm just saying, in the long run it doesn't matter what the supposed audience thinks. Do you really think everyone hates the Cadets shows? Even if some people don't like Happiness, hell even if a lot of people don't like it, it doesn't matter because they're doing what they believe in and there are still plenty of people that DO like, nay, LOVE the shows!! So let's get it straight DCP, the Holy Name Cadets are going to field in 2009, and they aren't going to do the Cadets show that you concocted in your mind of "Tonight" and "Malaguena", no they're going to take us somewhere we probably haven't been before, and you know what? I can't ####### wait. EDIT: I am so sorry I screwed up the Michelangelo bit. How embarrassing.
  17. Are you comparing a Boston Crusaders show to Beethoven 5? Ew
  18. If the creator(s) say put themselves into what they do and they call it art, then it is art my friends. You can delve into more specific things, like on a musicological level, but I don't think *most* people on DCP are equipped to discuss/debate on this complex of a level (just as I couldn't wax on about the concept of string theory). The point is, however, that as long as things are being created and the creators call themselves artists and what they do art, then what they create is, indeed, art. That's all there is to it.
  19. Music I'd like to hear done by corps......... Some pieces that spring to my mind are some GREAT piano concertos. Arthur Honegger's Concertino for Piano and Orchestra is phenomenal, as is Brahms Concerto No. 2 for Piano and Orchestra in Bb. Then there's the tone poems by Richard Strauss. Why have these been ignored by corps? Is the music too hard? Can the arrangers not do great music justice? There's plenty of great music that drum corps have not even touched because they're afraid to take the chance of not playing Malaguena or Candide for the nine millionth time, music that has been pro-orchestra repertoire for YEARS!!! Boston playing the "lawl space theme" from 2001 isn't good enough, Also Sprach Zarathusa is a very long piece, there are other things to it than the "lawl space theme"!! How about a Beethoven show where we actually delve into his music and don't bastardize the two themes that everyone already knows, can we dig into this music please? Glassmen didn't even touch the Eroica or any of his piano sonatas (aside from the first movement of Moonlight, which I will admit was quite good), the man was a great, we can do him more justice than that. And what about Duke Ellington? Why is Duke getting the short end of the stick? He wrote so much music, it'd be great if a drum corps played Chinoiserie or Happy Go Lucky Local, but I guess I have to settle for hearing a bad Eric Whitacre transcription for the 9 millionth time.
  20. Overhyped: Carolina Crown - Boy can they play this year. In fact, holy #### can they play!! But god, look/listen to *what* their playing! Is this really what drum corps is reduced to? Your first and second tier symphonies don't even want to play this stuff, they're busy with Bartok and Strauss and Dvorak. Don't get me wrong guys, PLEASE don't get me wrong, I love the Carolina Crown, especially the Triple Crown show, but what made last year great was the fact that they were playing music that hasn't been beaten to complete death by marching bands, drum corps, symphonic bands, chamber ensembles, and professional orchestras over the past hundred or so years. Come on guys, let's give some of this stuff a rest. Crown should play Don Juan by Strauss, or Ein Heldenleben. Boston Crusaders - I know this is a rebuilding year for them, but yuck. I've never seen Boston so so dirty before. They're early July dirty. I haven't seen the recent shows yet, but the Atlanta show left A LOT to be desired. The Conquest tag at the end is tacked on and annoying. Boston always found a way to integrate Conquest in the show without coming off as campy or derivative, and they've managed to achieve both this year. I appreciate the aggressive attempt this year, hopefully they can clean it, because this should would cook if it were clean. Unfortunately, I'm too much of a snob to put up with dirt from a corps I expect much better from. EAT EM UP BOSTON.
  21. I disagree...if the releases and catches are not together, then any choreography/moves following them probably won't be either...
