Check this out, Troopers just got even better... 2007 Troopers Brass Staff Caption Head: Scott-Lee Atchison Head Tech: Andre Feagin Tech: Fuller Lyon Tech: Jayme Taylor Tech: Ashley Waller Tech: Mike Lundquist Brass Staff Bio’s Scott-Lee Atchison (TroopersBrass@yahoo.com) Scott-Lee Atchison is in his first year of doctoral study in instrumental conducting at the University of Washington where he studies conducting with Tim Salzman, and trumpet with Allen Vizzutti. Mr. Atchison serves as the Graduate Teaching Assistant for the University Concert Bands, Wind Ensemble, and undergraduate conducting classes. Prior to attending the University of Washington, Mr. Atchison received his Masters Degree from the University of Tennessee where he was a conducting student of Dr. Gary Sousa, Dr. David Stutzenberger, and James Fellenbaum. While at the University of Tennessee, he served as the Graduate Assistant with the Pride of the Southland Marching Band as well as the Director of the Men's Basketball Band. Mr. Atchison received his Bachelors Degree in Music Education from the University of North Texas where he studied trumpet with Keith Johnson and Leonard Candeleria. Mr. Atchison’s Drum Corps began his drum corps experience with the World Champion Concord Blue Devils in 1997. His experience with them includes a year in the Brass Line in 1997 as well as two years as Drum Major in 1998 and 1999. In addition, he spent one year on the instructional staff in 2002. Atchison currently lives in Seattle, WA with his girlfriend Ysabel and their cat Bela. He is excited to be joining the Troopers organization and looks forward to the season ahead. Andre Feagen (AndreFeagin@yahoo.com) Andre Feagin is currently pursuing a Masters of Music degree in instrumental wind conducting at the Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music located at The University of Memphis in Memphis, Tennessee. At the University of Memphis he is a member of the University Wind Ensemble, and founding-member of both Dolce Trio and The KAND Clarinet Quartet. Mr. Feagin also serves as the Assistant Director of the University Concert Band. His major clarinet teachers include Dr. James Gholson, Dr. Denise Gainey, Bradley Wong, and Steve Cohen. His principal conducting mentor is Dr. Kraig A. Williams. As a conductor, he has performed throughout the United States conducting performances in Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia, Virginia, Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan, California, Texas, North Carolina, and New York. Mr. Feagin made his professional conducting debut with the United States Air Force Band of Mid America. Mr. Feagin was the 2004 winner of the National Band Association Young Conductors Competition. There he studied with Professor Frank Wickes, Professor James Keene, and Dr. Thomas Fraschillo. He has done additional work in clarinet with Richard Stoltzman, and conducting studies with Maestro Frederick Fennell. He continues to be in high demand as a guest conductor, and travels regularly conducting honor bands throughout the United States. Mr. Feagin is also an active clinician, program coordinator, adjudicator, and music arranger for some of the countries finest high school and university band programs. Some of the programs he has worked with include; Bassett HS (VA), Halls HS (TN), Union HS (OK), and Victoria Memorial HS (TX). He is currently on staff for the Mighty Sound of the South Marching Band at the University of Memphis where he serves as an Assistant Director. There he serves as music caption head, music arranger and member of the design team. Mr. Feagin is currently a member of the brass faculty for the DCI Finalist Carolina Crown Drum and Bugle Corps from Fort Mill, SC, a post he has maintained since 2003. He comes to Carolina Crown following his four- year career as conductor of the Phantom Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps from Rockford, IL. Mr. Feagin has received many honors in Drum Corps International including the High Drum Major caption at Drum Corps Midwest, and the DCI Jim Jones Leadership Award in 2000. Mr. Feagin has taught at numerous drum major and leadership symposiums across the country. Since 2005 he has been the director/founder of The Modern Drum Major Conducting Symposium held in South Carolina. He has worked with some of the country’s finest organizations in the field of marching pageantry including Fred J. Miller, Inc., Bands of America, and The Phantom Regiment. Mr. Feagin is a member of the International Clarinet Association, the National Band Association, and the Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity. Fuller Lyon (jlyon1@utk.edu) Fuller Lyon, an alumnus of the Madison Scouts Drum and Bugle Corps, is currently on staff with the University of Tennessee Band program in Knoxville, TN. A five-year member of the "Pride of the Southland" Marching Band, he served as Drum Major during the 1998 and 1999 football seasons and was also principle tubist in the UT Wind Ensemble. His tuba instructors include Robert Nunez, Joe Hebert, Neal Tidwell and Sande MacMorran. Mr. Lyon received both his undergraduate and masters degrees in Sport Management from the University of Tennessee. He stays very active throughout the year teaching Drum Major and Tuba students in the Knoxville area and serves as an arranger and drill writer for high school bands. Jayme Taylor (jtaylor@acs.ac) Jayme Taylor is the Director of Bands at Clinton High School in Clinton, TN. He works with two associates to cover the program which includes three elementary school beginning bands, two middle school bands, and the high school marching band, two concert bands, and a jazz band. He began his teaching career five years ago as an assistant director in Clinton and is currently in his second year as the Director of Bands. Jayme attended the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where he was a member of the Pride of the Southland Marching Band for four years and a trumpet section leader. He graduated with a B.M. in Music Education in 2002. Mr. Taylor's professional affiliations include ETSB&OA, TMEA, NBA, MENC, Phi Mu Alpha, and the National Educator's Association. He is an alumnus of the Bluecoats Drum & Bugle Corps from Canton, Ohio. Jayme lives in Knoxville, TN, with his wife Missy. Ashley Waller ()thedrwaller@hotmail.com Ms. Waller is a graduate of the University of Tennessee, earning a Bachelor of Music in Music Education in 2005 and a Master of Music in Music Education in 2006. Her tenure at the University of Tennessee included membership in the “Pride of the Southland Marching” Band, UT Symphonic Band, UT Studio Orchestra, and the UT Trumpet Ensemble. Ms. Waller has also participated in several professional organizations such as C-MENC, Tennessee Music Educators Association, International Trumpet Guild, and the College Music Society. Ms. Waller currently serves as the Assistant Director of Bands at Halls High School in Knoxville, Tennessee. This fall, the Halls High School Marching Band was awarded the state championship for Class AA and placed sixth in finals at the 45th-annual Contest of Champions at MTSU. Mike Lundquist (penguinjazz@verizon.net) Mike Lundquist received his Bachelor’s degree in Music Education and a full endorsement to teach from Central Washington University. While there, he performed with many of Central’s award winning ensembles and began to develop his brass teaching experience. Mike has spent the last five years studying trumpet and brass pedagogy with Charles Butler, and John Harbaugh, and he has taken lessons from and/or participated in master classes with, Bobby Shew, Charlie Davis, Allen Vizzutti, and Bill Adam. Mike has been teaching brass students privately for seven years, and has performed professionally in a variety of settings. Mike has been around the marching idiom for many years, having marched in bands since high school and has been associated with drum and bugle corps for the last 5 years. Mike spent time with the Seattle Cascades in 2003, but did not tour due to injury, and for the last 5 years has been involved with the Seattle area senior corps, Brass from the Past, and Seattle Brass Attack. Mike has also been a brass instructor for the last two years with the award winning Kamiak High School Show Band, from Mukilteo, Washington. Mike recently was a student teacher at Kamiak and conducted the bands, jazz bands, and orchestras during his stay. Mike Lundquist is a member of the Washington Music Educators Association, the International Trumpet Guild, the International Association for Jazz Educators, and the Music Educators National Conference.

Congrats to the Troopers. They are now back in DCI for the 2007 season. I can't wait for more staff names later this week. Picking up Douglas Thrower (Bluecoats arranger since 1997) was a huge step. Also go check out the Troopers 2007 promo video. www.troopersdrumcorps.org

Word on the street is since Nick Angelis is there the Troopers will acquire some Yamaha percussion next year. Maybe the Troopers will possibly get a great deal on a set of Yamaha horns. I think that company would jump at the chance to convert The Troopers to Bb instruments. Jamie
