  2. Not quite Mahler's 5th, but still pretty cool :)
  3. It seems that winning the Division 3 DCPI championship in their very first season has driven everybody in the Lake Woebegon Crusaders organization a mixture of looney, beserk, bonkers, and stark raving mad! LWC is pleased to announce its 2005 program, entitled "The Freak Show", which features numerous selections from the repetoire of the master of musical mayhem himself, Danny Elfman. The show kicks off with the theme from the movie "Beetlejuice" and lets loose with the energy of a group of pent-up mental patients as the hornline and percussion sections show off what made them champions last season. From there, the mood shifts completely, to the lush and darkly sensual "Ice Dance" from Edward Scissorhands. Look for our color guard costumes, flag designs, and overall routine to set the stage for this piece perfectly. The show carries on, but be sure to look out for flying toast slices as the battery steps to the fore with the zany "Breakfast Machine" from Peewee's Big Adventure. The program concludes with an ooky, spooky tour through Halloween Town with a medley of songs from "The Nightmare Before Christmas", including "Poor Jack", "Making Christmas", and "Kidnap the Sandy Claws!" Join us in 2005 for what's sure to be a CRAZY tour!
  4. Kosmos is proud to announce its 2005 program, entitled "Optical Illusions" The program features Key Poulan's "The World of M.C. Escher", and promises to be a musical and visual spectale like none ever seen. Our visual staff returns from last season and is promising to deliver a one-of-a-kind visual package to complement the intense musical selections of the piece, and will be pulling out all of the smoke-and-mirrors tricks that they can muster, including the awaited return of "Focus drill" that Kosmos made famous 2 seasons ago. The music itself is divided into three movements, each inspired by a different piece of Escher's artwork. Movement 1, "Ascending and Descending" starts off with a flourish, then launches into an intense driving ostinato that challenges all sections of the hornline and percussion. Expect a strong colorguard book to complement the music here. Movement 2, "Drawing Hands" retains some of the intensity from the opener but still delivers its own distinct message, and gives the hornline and colorguard a chance to display the brand of excellence that Kosmos has made a trademark with its ballads in the past. Movement 3, "Mobius Strip", will feature a lot of angular and circular marching to complement the spiraling nature of the music to conclude the program. And for the first time, we are making it possible to hear samples of our program before the season kicks off. You can listen to arrangments of the pieces at Key Poulan's website at http://www.keypoulan.com/comp_esher.html We at Kosmos hope you enjoy this program for the 2005 season.
  5. 10:01. Voting is complete. I will have the results up shortly. Results: Proposal 1 fails. Proposal 2 fails Proposal 3 fails Proposal 4 fails Proposal H fails
  6. Today is the last day for voting on the Div 2/3 proposals. I will tabulate the votes at 10:01 AM. As the voting stands, no proposals will pass, as all of them currently have a majority of "No" votes.
  7. Since it was in Madison, it could have been the giant steam plant behind the stadium having a meltdown like it did a bunch of times in 2002.
  8. Did we ever find out about the pages being stuck together? :P
  9. Title: Ocean sounds. Rationale: There's nothing more relaxing than hearing the sound of the ocean. They are so incredibly calm and serene. Also, our rules are too restrictive on creative aspects of design. Our staff designers are chomping at the bit to be allowed to bring new things to the field. And did I mention how nice the ocean sounds? Rule Summation: Ocean sounds are cool.
  10. Title of Proposal: "Broken" captions: Description: The executive director shall have the authority to determine which captions are "broken" or do too much for the value they have, and adjust those values as he/she sees fit. Rationale: There are some caption choices that, due to their excellent value, have been overused by corps directors and have led to redundant scores in several captions, as witnessed by the Finals caption breakdowns over the last 3 seasons. Giving the ED the authority to adjust captions to a more realistic level would introduce a new level of competition by making managers consider more carefully their captions, and conceivably lead to a more diverse range of caption choices.
  11. Title of change: Seperate championship venue for Div 2/3 shows Description: For the upcoming season, Div 2/3 prelims and finals will be at a seperate venue. Rationale: This will mirror the policy of DCI for conducting Div 2/3 championships at a seperate event.
  12. Title of change: Seperate captions for Div 2/3 corps Description: For the 2005 summer season, instead of using Division 1 corps for their selections, Div 2/3 corps will instead choose from active Div 2/3 corps from the 2004 season. Rationale: This will produce more realistic scores for Div 2/3 corps, and give Div 2/3 corps a more distinct identity. This would involve either the executive director or whoever is responsible for tabulating scores to have access to recaps for Div 2/3 shows from the past season
  13. Title of Proposed Change: 9 Captions, 9 Corps Description: Any one corps can not use the same corps in their captions twice. This will require each director to more carefully choose the captions they want. Purpose/Rationale: This will require each director to more carefully choose the captions they want to use. It will take a little more thought, but that’s the point.
