  1. Hi Ape! I'm very impressed with how Siamyth is going right now! I'm happy that Siamyth is successful and running strong. I wish Siamyth luck this season and for many seasons to come! On another note, I'm planning on studying in Bangkok in the near future. I've been looking into Srinakharinwirot University in Bangkok, as they have one of my majors. I'm going to double major in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESOL) and Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL). My goal is to teach in Thailand as well! So I'll be in Thailand in the future, I just don't know when!
  2. Ape - Wow! That's so exciting, more drum corps popping up in Thailand! Hopefully when I return to Thailand one day (whenever the heck that is), I'll be able to watch a drum corps show/competition! I find it wonderful how many interested people there are in Thailand for drum corps, I definately look forward to the future of Thai drum corps! And in 2006, hopefully you will get to march a full season instead just half of a season of senior corps if Siamyth turns into a junior corps. It was a wonderful experience marching with you, even for that short amount of time. You'll definately have to let me in on your plans when 2006 nears!
  3. Ape - I'm happy to hear how successful Siamyth has been thus far! I look forward to the future to see what else Siamyth brings to the drum corps world! Siamyth is definately paving the way for more drum corps in Thailand and drum corps in Southeast Asia for that manner. Is there still a colorguard in the works as we discussed before?
  4. I honestly couldn't imagine marching a corps without having to do running/push ups/crunches for messing up a rep. Not only does having to run/do crunches/push ups make me want to strive to be better, but it also helps with conditioning. If it wasn't for all the running and such I had to do this summer for screwing up reps, I wouldn't have lost 36 pounds. Do I mind having to run/do crunches/push ups for screwing up? No, I feel it's my duty to do so, especially since I let my corps down by not thinking or lack of concentration during a rep. I also become more motivated to do better when someone will say 'what the heck was that?', 'that was crap', etc. Obvioviously where I march is quite respectful on how they use their words and when they use them, or else I would not be marching there. I would rather know the hard truth than have everything be sugar coated. Afterall, only good words would create a rather unequal balance. I've learned to take the unfavorable words and being told to run, etc. with a grain of salt because in the long run it will be worth it and was worth it this season. And for the record, I have never felt mistreated or abused by my instructors in either of the corps I've marched in.
  5. Stillwater was definately a wash out (no pun intended!) and a disappointing show. It was my 'home show', but at least we still had the chance to perform in the outdoor standstill, it could have been cancelled all together. Stillwater was our 4th or 5th rained out show for the 2004 summer. I still think our member from Taiwan brought the monsoon season with her!
  6. "Americanos: These guys exceeded my expectations tonight. They played what I would consider to a "typical Canos show" which had a musical book with a Latin flair. I thought they were stronger musically than I have heard them in recent years, but some of that could be due to how late in the season I am seeing their show. Some really cool things about the Canos is that even though they are a Div 3 corps, they like to bust out drill moves that you will see in a Div 1 show. This is pretty daring, and they pulled it off tonight. As usual, they have a very good guard, but they are way too small. Usually 3 people, sometimes 4. Near the end of the show they put a flag in each hand which visually doubled the size od their guard. I think they should have dome that for the whole show, and came up with some other effect for the climax of the show. Score was even better than I expected, but well deserved. I'd love to see these guys be a little bigger next year. Fill out the guard, and they will be a #### of a corps." Thank you for the compliments, we worked extremely hard on our show and definately challenged ourselves with much of the drill we did in our show. I can't even express how many hours we worked going set to set to perfect our drill. As for the guard, I was one of the members and yes, it was difficult with only 4 members. It would have been spectacular to have a guard of 12 or 16, but we had to work with what we had and I think we were quite successful at that. I actually have to laugh because our colorguard judge at the Dubuque show exclaimed how he/she realized that it didn't matter if a colorguard had 4 or 16 in the colorguard and even just a guard of four could do wonders on the field and even be more successful then larger guards. b**bs I agree that the addition of the swing flags in ballad was a wonderful idea, I applaud my instructors' ideas to implement them. However, using swing flags during the ENTIRE show would most definately make our show much less interesting and probably decrease our score. I really couldn't see the judges or even the audience being that impressed with swing flags throughout the entire program.
  7. This is my 5th year of colorguard, but first year with a junior corps. I marched two summers and one winter with a senior corps (Chops, Inc. to be more exact) and two years of high school. I'm a very proud and excited member of Americanos from Menasha, Wisconsin. Best of luck to everyone this summer! :)
  8. Beautiful is an under statement! Amazing is more like it. :) I agree that the people in Thailand were wonderful, all the people I met while I was there were quite welcoming and simply amazing people! I loved the jungle and elephant riding in Chiang Mai, river rafting down the Ping River, the Royal Palace, the incredible and exotic food, the awesome night markets in Chiang Mai, and so forth! And the ruines of Sukhothai and Ayutthya, quite incredible! Of course I didn't enjoy nearly falling in the Chao Phrya River. . . . And now Thailand is even more amazing with its own drum and bugle corps!
  9. Ape, Thanks for keeping us updated! The changes and additions to Siamyth sound fantastic! I'm now even more eager to see Siamyth perform - especially when the colorguard is added in 2005. Hopefully Siamyth will be able to have the international tour in 2006, that would be awesome to see a drum corps here in America from Thailand. I hope your shows are wonderful and successful - especially the home show!
  10. Sean - here's what it says on the website. It's on the page for 'click here for more information' under the link for 'RSVP for Memorial Day Camp Today!' "NEXT CAMP: May 28-30: Menasha Area, Rehearsal Location TBA Camp will conclude at 6pm on Sunday May 30th. This is also the weekend that the percussion will be moving in on tour. Please state In the "comments" section if you will be moving in at this camp, or when you will be joining us." Regardless, I can't wait to learn drill and guard work! You too could be part of this excitement by attending Memorial Day camp and marching Americanos this summer!
  11. We still have openings for guard! Our next camp is May 28-30 in the Menasha area. Camp will conclude at 6pm on Sunday May 30th. Keep tuned to the Americanos website for more information . . . Http://www.canos.org
  12. Hi Ape, it's Christie! I'm in awe that there's a drum corps from Thailand, how wonderful! Although I'll be on tour this summer, be sure to keep me updated on Siamyth's progress! Perhaps when I return to Thailand (whenever that may be), I'll have a chance to see Siamyth perform. Best of luck to you and Siamyth!

  15. Are you still looking for a drum corps to march with this summer? Americanos is still looking for colorguard members! Our next camp is April 30th-May 2nd and is tenatively scheduled at Cudahy High School in Cudahy, Wisconsin (South of Milwaukee). No matter how much or how little experience you have had, Americanos would still love to have you as a member! Everything that you need to know will be taught to you! From jazz runs to spining to tosses, it will all be taught to you! On a personal note, this is my first year in Americanos. However, at the first camp I went to for the 2004 season, I met the nicest, most caring people ever! Everyone was so kind and welcoming to me, I felt like family within minutes of just meeting everyone! If you're interested, you can go to the Americanos website (Canos.org), fill out the information request form, or just send an e-mail to the colorguard caption head, Kate, at kathryn_falvey@yahoo.com.
