  1. YOU ARE CORRECT WHEN YOU SAY YOU ARE NOT ALONE. I TAKE COMFORT IN SEEING THE ALUMNI CORPS WHENEVER I CAN. I TRULY BELIEVE THE ACTIVITY HAS FORGOTTEN IT"S HERITAGE AND HAS MORPHED INTO A GRAND BAND EXPIERIENCE. (ALTHOUGH THE LEVEL OF PERFORMANCE IS HIGH). FOR EXAMPLE LOOK AT DCA WITH ONLY ONE CORPS DOMINATING AND ALL OTHERS WAY DOWN. I THINK DCI WILL ALSO FIND THEY ARE ON A SLIPPERY SLOPE. GONE ARE THE DAYS YOU COULD TELL WHAT CORPS WAS ABOUT TO PERFORM WHEN YOU HEARD A STREET BEAT EVEN BEFORE THE CORPS APPEARED. THERE WAS ALSO THE FEELING THAT ANYONE COULD WIN ON ANY NIGHT DEPENDING HOW MUCH PRIDE AND ENTHUSIASM AND EXCITEMENT WAS GENERATED. CROWDS LOVED TO HEAR SIGNATURE SONGS AND ACTUALLY LOOKED FORWARD TO IT, (NOT THESE LESSONS IN MUSIC APPRECIATION AS WE HAVE TODAY) JUST MY HUMBLE OPINION
  2. Ok, here's a few ......Johnsonburg Yellow Jackets and Johnsonburg Red Rockets(pics are at Kopper Kettle owned by Lucky Eddie) Warren Cornplanters(may already been mentioned) Brockway Lancers Salamanca Black Knights (Ed is drum corps alumni, by the way) Anyone remember Verona Cavaliers or Cumberland Freestatesmen ?
  3. Hawthorne for sure, Archie and Reilly, Sky and Princemen and a corps from Reading Pa all come to mind for me
  4. Verona Cavaliers Pittsburgh Rockets Emmaus Sentinels Johnsonburg Diplomats Sky and Sun Blue Rock Ok I could go on but I think I hear snoring somewhere
  5. The Cabs are doing either a field show or a standstill at 3PM(trying to get the local high school to let us use the stadium). They will also be the first musical unit in the parade at 6PM(they will follow Brockway HS Band and fire and EMS units). That will allow them time to get on the roads home at a decent hour. After the parade there will be fireworks and then the town locks up due to the thousands of people all trying to drive home at the same time. The Brockway Old fashioned Fourth Celebration is a week long celebration with lots of things to do. Check out the website...I think it is Brockwayfourth.com but you might want to search it as I am not sure. I personally have marched in this parade with several corps over the years and I always loved it. Hope you can make it as there is alot to do, not just the parade.
  6. As of this time we have Hawthorne Caballeros Alumni coming and are still talking to one or two others. As for places to stay in Brockway, there is a small Motel in town. In DuBois which is 8 miles south on Rt219, we have a Holiday Inn Express with rooms and suites. In downtown DuBois there is two hotels, one is an independant and the other is a Best Western. On Rt.255 there is an Hampton Inn near the mall. Other places can be found near Brookville on I80. About 15 miles south of Brockway. About 10 miles north of Brockway there is the Royal(really nice) near Ridgway. I think there maybe lodging in Treasure Lake near DuBois. We also have limited rooms at Scottish Heights Golf Course outside of Brockway. Also lots of rooms at Clarion which is about a 35 minute drive west of Brockway(take Rt28 south from Brockway and then I80 west to Clarion).
  7. I am sure it was an oversight, but didn't we put just a little extra into our color-pre because we weren't ashamed of being proud of our flag......
  8. Oh my gosh, I can't remember the year, but I was with Reading and the Senior show at Dream was turned into an exhibition due to bad weather and man SKY played like forever and then we came on and I mean people were goin crazy and lets seee, yea we wore our uniform pants and white T's and all I remember was the crowd asking all the corps to play MORE.....have I ever mentioned I LOVE DRUM CORPS
  9. Talk about show stoppers, how about the Yankee-Rebels when they were on. I mean Come on...How could they top their 70's show, but when you think of all the powerhouse corps of that time and I mean Jrs and Srs...like the Hurcs exit when the wind went thru before they played mariah...or Casper Troopers or how bout a traffic jam in Lil ol New york..or the Cabs raisin the dust at Aquinas before they even pl;ayed a note....or Santa clara dancin up a bottle or 27th Lancers or the precision of Anaheim Kingsmen....Oh My I'm runnin at the mouth(keyboard again) And there are so many I forgot to mention like Ironsides by Cru and how bout Blue Rock or Garfield at Roosevelt or Sun crankin up Joker or Les Dips giving fans a treat not only for sound but sight also....WOW...........I LOVE DRUM CORPS
  10. If you really need an old tyme drum corps fix, go to the Forum on April 18 in Harrisburg Pa.. I go every year and I swear the buildings across the street are about 10 feet farther back then they were just before showtime. (I have never been disappointed with the quality of the performances) Once again Dr. Bugleboy says take one Serenade in Brass, but don't call me for several days cause I won't be able to hear you till then anyhow!
  11. No It wasn't me....honest...I wasn't even there......Anyway I would have passed out way earlier in the night since I am a lightweight....but it might of been me yelling nice band at a few DCA finals in my younger days...
  12. I was just skimming along and recognized quite a few obscure corps I remember(mostly from NY), but I haven't seen anyone mention the Bucktail Regiment from Emporium Pa. They sponsored a Jr. competition in Emporium way back around 1975 or so, but I can't remember who competed, but we did an exhibition for them(Johnsonburg Diplomats). Funny they never stuck as Cameron County High School always for years had a top notch high school band. The bands are still top notch today.
  13. The brewery is Straub's in St. Marys Pa. and the Eternal Tap is still alive and well.
  14. Hey I was a J-burger, and there were many GOOD drum corps people there(just an A-H*** for a director). But anyway do you remember the Gardenstatesmen from NJ somewhere or the Cumberland Md. Freestatesmen .
  15. Oh Yeah, how could I not add Sky and Hawthorne and Blue Rock and Phantom and on and on...I love Drum corps
  16. I agree that was a Great horn line. Trouble is that there are so many I find amazing, I really hate to pick one. If I had to choose, I would say 27th Lancers had some amazing talent as did Hurricanes and of course Bucs, and Truman Crawford wrote one of the finest shows with Yankee-Rebels that I still can't believe they didn't win in early 70's. Ironsides had Balls to the Walls. anyway you get the idea I think.
  17. As a former Buc who performed "Requiem" the first time so long ago, I must say I can't wait , either.....I am sure it will stir some emotion, not just for me and other former Bucs, but the fans also...
  18. The only other senior corps that came from Maryland that I remember was the Freestatesmen from Cumberland Md. They competed in RCA for a few years. Also remember the Gardenstatesmen from somewhere in NJ(also RCA).After reading thru this topic I seem to remember the Northeast Circuit also. Also remember competing at the Allentown fair on a small dirt track at the fairgrounds.
  19. Extraordinaire Wow after all these years I got something right, you WERE there. What year was it? Don't remember the ICA thing, must have come in late 70's or something....Do you remember any other corps at VFW other than WBS and Verona. Did Westmoreland Esquires go?
  20. I might be going out on a limb here, but my guess is one circuit was RCA. RCA was a really neat circuit that played smaller corps in front of smaller venues. I believe it was born at the Red Carpet Lounge in Harrisburg. Some really good people and corps were members.(I also believe RCA members got real shafts at DCA). Going out on a limb again another senior circuit may have been the Garden States.(only about 40% sure about that). I also remember VFW States in Philly.(WBS) After winning we went to some swank Hotel downtown and did a victory concert. I don't recall for sure but it may have been 1969 or 1970. I seem to remember the Verona Cavaliers, York White Roses Jrs, maybe the Rockets, Sentinels and Lancers. Seems to me that the number of corps was smaller, but we won and this 15 year old high school kid got to do some serious celebrating and the rest is pretty fuzzy. Hope more people reply, who knows some really Good stories may appear
  21. used to be a Bucktail Regiment near Emporium,a junior corps. Think an all age near Altoona is the Keystone Regiment. With Thunderbird Regiment we would have all of Western Pa Regimented. (I vote Thunderbirds)
