  1. I'm almost 100 % you're speaking about Boston as well. Lots of ineffective solos, I agree. But it is not Crown. Is it just me, or does BAC's guard just not have a hard enough vocabulary compared to everyone else?
  2. I agree. I think there might be a slight variation, but I cannot tell the difference...that was the only bone I had to pick with the guard this year. Other than needing to add a closer flag, they spin amazingly well.
  3. Those were always my sentiments, anyway. I don't see how, even in the days of the tick system, scoring wasn't subjective. In an activity like this, it is completely impossible to avoid, though I'm guilty of of saying "corps X is better than corps Y" myself, out of sheer habit, knowing better. Here's to Indy, Indyway. :)
  4. Crown always had a talented guard. It was the best section of the corps for many years, even prior to 2003. They won't win it all, but I do expect them to be somewhere between 3-5, which is a tremendous accomplishment. Cadets will win, followed by Cavies, BD, Crown, Madison or Bluecoats. Madison's guard is much improved, but not good enough to beat Cadets or Cavies...*yet*...:)
  5. I agree. I do think that it is the system itself that needs the work. When I was shocked at the 16.4 brass score, it is because I've heard them several times over the season (as well as BAC), and while I can understand their placement below Bluecoats, I just don't think BAC is better. Do I think the brass score is low? Yes. In relation to the other scores, I would have had them around a 16.9 to 17.0. I know this judge knows his stuff, no doubt. Sure, it could have been a bad night for Crown, absolutely. I subscribe to no conspiracy theories. :)
  6. They have an amazing book this year full of difficulty and it is executed so well...it is no surprise to me. Of course, I'm biased! :)
  7. The entire problem with the show is not HOW they're playing, it is what and how much. There just isn't enough music, period.
  8. That's your opinion, and at any rate, I don't see how BAC beat them. Their score is just too low. Should be up around 17.2-ish.
  9. A buddy just called me and told me they were quite dirty visually and he thinks that is what's holding them back. Any comments anyone...? He also predicts The Cadets will win tomorrow night. quote=fourouttheforty,Jul 29 2005, 11:23 PM] Wow, tight races. I expect some shakeups tomorrow in Indy! But man, the Bluecoats are still getting destroyed in Visual... <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
  10. Holy Name! Cadets really edging up on Cavies and seperating themselves from the pack. That's a small spread if I've ever seen one. I hope they can keep cleaning and keep picking up momentum. I really want to see them win this year. Wow. A three point spread between Cadets and Devils. That is tremendous. I wouldn't say a fight at *the* top, but it looks like a fight between 3-6 rather than 4-6 now. This is the point where I usually get concerned about Madison. They tend to lose steam at the end, while PR usually picks it up. I think the Bluecoats maybe in a bit of a stalemate. I have a feeling they're having a hard time getting it clean enough...still time, though. Although, to be honest, I don't see them catching PR. Madison....*maybe*, if Madison has peaked early....they tend to do that. Also, what the #### is up with Crown's brass score? 16.4? No way. ....and get it to my Crown Guard ladies and gents. 18.1 !
  11. I am quite sure they are doing all three, especially in the guard area. Check out their guard scores this year in comparison to last year. They're doing a wonderful job.
  12. Thanks to Adam Sage this is the best Phantom guard, ever. Leaps and bounds above the last few years. They struggled for a while, especially in design/technique, but I think that is solved. Their guard is being rewarded very well this season, as they should.
  13. Even when Crown's hornline wasn't where it is now, their colorguard ALWAYS finished high. A long, great tradition of spinning at Crown. I'm glad their current caption filled Michael Shapiro's shoes so amazingly well....but I sure miss him! The vocabulary that they're pulling off this year is absolutely amazing and executed flawlessly. The only qualm I have is that I wish they would add a different set of closer silks....too much similarity there and with their opener silks, if not the same, actually. Just would add a little more dimension since they're working with the all black unis (simple but very effective with the wings) and already have a set of silks in the beginning that are all white with the rings. Other than that, this guard is perfection :) :) :) Get it my ladies and gents @ Crown!
  14. I'm a huge Bjork fan....not usually a fan of spoken stuff, but I can't wait to hear what they do with this....could you explain it a little more? (I've seen Dancer in the Dark about 8 times) :)
  15. All you colorguard (and non) people out there, give me your insight!
  16. That is a very uncomfortable spread between SCV and BK. I'm upset for the Crossmen and especially Colts, but good job JSU. I don't really like the show, but it is always great to have Spirit in finals (we'll see). :) Also, looks like SCV got hit very hard by Jones in the CG caption. I'll wait to see them before I disagree. Glassmen had high guard of the afternoon, and I'm not surprised. We always used to joke about how much Nola Jones loved the Glassmen colorguard :) Oh, to edit this post a third time.... looks like the CR guard is hangin' in there after all the drama with a 14.1 just behind Mandarins....good job. To add, that is quite a bit of distance between JSU and Xmen....looks like they'll really have to work to pull it out.
  17. Debbie Torchia was responsible for all the odd guard scores at Louisville. However, Nola Jones is known to kinda stray from the pack in her judging also and there are a lot of guard captions out there who don't like the way she sees things. So, things could still turn out to be interesting in the guard caption. I know different judges look for different things, and I appreciate someone who stands firm for their ideas. But when you really look at those scores from Louisville, and now that I've seen most of those guards, I can see why the scores fell back into place. Not slotting, just a collective majority of judges awarding the obvious. 99 % of the guard community would agree.
  18. It's not the amps that bother me. I just don't enjoy drumspeak in any show. I don't care about the story behind it, tabla or whatever, I don't think it fits a middle eastern show. You're right, India is NOT the middle east. :) :) :)
  19. Alright, out of fun and boredom: 1. Cadets 2. BD 3. Cavaliers 4. Madison 5. Phantom 6. Bluecoats 7. Crown 8. BAC 9. Glassmen 10. SCV 11. BK 12. Crossmen
  20. The guard unis are copied after what Uma Thurman wore in the movies. And you're right. Other than Twisted Nerve, I don't see too many correlations at all, except maybe, also, the the Japanese schoolgirl/killer in Kill Bill and the schoolgirl in the Cadets show. I need to see the show again because I've not seen it since the third week of June.
  21. I have not heard the Cadets drumspeak (they didn't do it when I caught a rehearsal run-through back in June) but the drumspeak the 'coats show sucks. Sorry to be so inarticulate. Everyone around me just kept looking at each other and there were giggles....I felt embarrassed for them, because this is the best version of the Bluecoats ever. The drumspeak is just not needed, and afterwards I kept thinking about how annoying it was and not remembering parts of their show I should have remembered.
  22. Reminds me so much of the 1998 Patriots Winterguard show, about a "dream" in which there was a member who stayed "in character" before and AFTER the show, walking into the stands (the girl in the winterguard show was evidentally portraying a schizophrenic) and acting insane. I loved it, personally, but I don't know how well your average corps fan likes such things. I've pretty much not liked anything Cadets have done since '00 (and '00 is not my favorite) but I love them this year and rooting for them to win.
