  1. I can't wait til the Blackhawks win the Superbowl. It's gonna be awesome!
  2. Star was one of those corps where you felt like they could perform anything the staff gave them. I just wish the design team had been a bit less artsy and a bit more entertain-y. As for who deserved to win in 92, 93, look, DCI judging just isn't that precise. In any given year, you can make an argument for 2 or 3 corps winning. If the spread is less than 1 point, then it could have gone either way. maybe a different judging panel, or one corps is a little more "on", or whatever.
  3. crappy fans are better than no fans. From the video of the Stanford show, it looks like the audience was pretty sparse.
  4. Someday, a corps will do a show called "In the Lot." I predict it will be awesome.
  5. I liked Crown's pre-show better than BD. I also liked Crown's opener. I haven't been able to bring my self to watch the entire show yet. Something about drum corps through computer speakers that I can only take so much of.
  6. I watched Stanferd on the FN. I liked the micro-snippet of la suerte. It rocked hard...for a few seconds. Then they went into some dissonant transitional stuff and I got bored and turned it off. 10 minute shows are too short for transitions. Heck, life is too short for transitions. On the + side, they still do loud and aggressive better than anyone.
  7. Maybe they were putting in changes and wanted it to be a surprise. Disappointment is warranted, indignation is not.
  8. Unless it's the Monty Python version: "Immanuel Kant was a real pissant who was very rarely stable. Heidegger, Heidegger was a boozy beggar who could think you under the table. David Hume could outconsume Schopenhauer and Hegel. And Wittgenstein was a beery swine who was just as schlossed as Schlegel..."
  9. I can't wait til a corps does "a critique of pure reason." Or, perhaps I should say I Kant wait. tee. hee. anyway, what's up with these System Blue horns I'm hearing about? They're made by King, right? How are they different than regular Kings.
  10. sounds like the rules for "rock-paper-scissors"
  11. Not possible. The Stealthmen have never been seen. If you ever see them, you can be sure it is not them you are seeing.
  12. You should post this on the BD forums. You'll get a lot of "interesting" responses
  13. probably out of work NYC theatre critics looking to fill their spare time. Did the drop a lot of big words like "denouement" and "mise-en-scene?" on an unrelated note, does every corps have a kid named "Scooter?" I could swear I hear someone yell that name before just about every corps.
  14. If you don't know what "it" is, you haven't been around drum corps long enough But, every year, when Stillwater comes around, somebody says it. I'm not going to say it.
  15. what's up with the mirrors? Are they doing Man of LaMancha? Alice in Wonderland? Sunset Boulevard?
  16. So, who's gonna be the first to say it...?
  17. Stanford had a full judging panel. That might have had something to do with it.
  18. BK got a 73 last night, so Scouts are in 11th. BK's score has gone up 6.2 in 5 days.
  19. A personal comment is the most substantial response you could come up with?
  20. this is based on the FN vid, so take it for what it's worth. I like the first number. It has a Philip Glass thing going. Maybe that's because it actually is Philip Glass, although I thought it sounded more like Koyaanisqqatsi than The Hours. After that, it gets kind of repetitive musically. A lot of loud, angry dissonance without much dynamics or phrasing. The Illusionist music doesn't really fit stylistically. Glass and Adams have a lot of interesting and complex harmonies that the film music lacks. Technically, I think they have a long way to go before they march or play as well as Cavaliers. I like the fact that they play the horns with energy, but it gets edgy and out of control too often. Cavaliers seem to play with more control and finesse, not to mention better intonation. Cavaliers also have a smoother, more refined marching style despite being fairly dirty as an ensemble. Compared to Madison, I think Scouts brass is more restrained, but also more musical - better phrasing and dynamics. The brass and percussion work more as an ensemble. With Blue Stars, they seem to be fighting each other. I felt like there were a number of ensemble break downs in the battery. To me, Madison's show is also more engaging, probably because the music is more familiar. Blue Stars show is technically demanding, and they will probably get credit for their aggressive style. Those two factors could take them a long way. But I don't see them catching Cavaliers, and if Madison gets cleaner they could close the gap.
  21. No kidding. It's not even 640x480. I assumed it's because I got the basic package. It is the same for the premium?
