  1. Thanks! I'm at the stadium now... borrowing someone's wireless signal (thanks in advance for who's ever it is) but I plan on taking some more tonight, will post them when I get back tonight!
  2. I haven't done anything with these photos, just pulled them off the card a few minutes ago so some may not be good but take a look: http://bobbymarko.com/photos/dci2005/
  3. I believe you didn't read my original post. I clearly stated if they did play more than 4-5 pieces it was from a collective work... ie Wizard of Oz, Fiddler on the Roof, Jesus Christ Superstar... that was the point I was making. Most of the corps these days just pick random pieces, although they might be jazz or show tunes what have you... they aren't part of one theme/production/collective work like they were years ago, thats all.
  4. And from the 1971: SCV - Overture to the Globe Playhouse from Henry V * Now Thank We All Our God * Miracle of Miracles (from Fiddler on the Roof) * Tradition (from Fiddler on the Roof) * Matchmaker (from Fiddler on the Roof) * Fiddler on the Roof * If I Were a Rich Man (from Fiddler on the Roof) * Greensleeves (majority from Fiddler) Argonne- Barnum and Bailey's Favorite March * Stars and Stripes Forever * Heaven on Their Minds (from Jesus Christ Superstar) * I Don't Know How to Love Him (from Jesus Christ Superstar) * I Only Want To Say * King Herod's Song (from Jesus Christ Superstar) * Crucifixcion * John 19:10 (from Jesus Christ Superstar) * Shenandoah (majority from JCS) Madison- Somewhere Over the Rainbow (from the Wizard of Oz) * Follow the Yellow Brick Road (from Wizard of Oz) * We're Off to See the Wizard (from Wizard of Oz) * Talk to the Animals (from Dr. Doolittle) * Parade of the Wooden Soldiers) * Someday My Prince Will Come * Hi Ho (from Snow White) * Yankee Doodle * Ding Dong the Witch is Dead (from Wizard of Oz) (majority from Wizard of Oz) See, I can prove my point too! :)
  5. you brought up a good point... i mean look at the list of reps this year and see how many corps are combinning more than 3-4 pieces of music: http://corpsreps.com/corpsreps.cfm?view=currentyear I counted almost 20 and check out Spirit and Southwinds reps... and it's not like they are from the same collective work either, they're very different. That's just crazy! I remember when at the most you would have is five pieces and if that, they were from all the same collective work.
  6. I agree with you somewhat. But I can listen to a movie soundtrack and seperate it from the movie and still say it was a great/or not a great soundtrack. However, as I mentioned in a previous post, listening back to the 2003 cds I just got, I was bored with the majority of the shows. I know when I saw them I wasn't all bored but it brings me to the point of saying... why put out cds at all? I can't always pop in a dvd, especially in my car while driving. So all I've got are the cds but I don't see the point in buying them now because the music by itself is boring and just full of licks and gimmicks and allot of dead air. I thought first and foremost, drum corps was about the music, visual second. From what I've been hearing, people want the music to come first and not rely on visual. I think what use to be interesting and the challenge in my opinion is playing a piece of music really well, while trying to put a visual program to match it, not the other way around and certainly not to compromise the music for the sake of the visual. JMO!
  7. A straight line or forward front will always be harder because it's very noticeable if someone is just slightly off. Why do you think you don't see moves like Madison doing the rotating front? Only they try to pull it off but you don't see that move in a champoinship performace! Madison does it because they don't have anything to lose and they're they have the balls to do it. Cadets will pull it out every now and then, at least a front but not lately that I can remember.
  8. They did it in 03', it was great seeing them do it then but I think that's been the only time since 92'.
  9. I'll be there at the M'boro show tonight. Caught both Cadets and Cavies rehearsal yesterday (pics of the Cavies rehearsal coming soon!) and I have to say I thoguht the cadets were marching better than the Cavies and seem to have a stronger sound but it's hard to match the two. Wanted to catch Phantom's rehearsal but for some reason couldn't find them at the housing they were staying at (day off?). Anyway, here's my pick for tonight's performace: 1. Cadets - 93.2 2. Cavies - 92.9 3. BD - 92.0 4. PR - 90.5 5. Scouts - 89.9 6. Bluecoats - 89.0 7. Carolina - 87.7 8. Boston - 86.5 all scores +/- .5
  10. Got this from Cavies website: "On Thursday evening, July 28, the corps will be rehearsing at Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro in anticipation of the annual Masters of the Summer Music Games sponsored by Drum Corps International. The corps will be rehearsing under the lights in the stadium from 7 to 10 pm. There will be plenty to see, hear and understand for anyone who wants to attend the evening block of rehearsal, as the corps will run major portions of their 2005 program, "My Kind of Town."" In my opinion, this doesn't seem fair. A corps that gets to rehearse on the same field the competition is being held on the folling night. Which means they will know how the field feels and get use to it, something the other corps will not have the chance to do. I remember from marching myself that every field feels differently so knowing how the surface responds is important to your individual performance. I'm sure this happens allot, think even we might have had that advantatge a time or two but is it fair to have this or is it earned? Anyone else feel this way? Just curious.
  11. Ran into a fellow tenor player from Suncoast at a music store in Tampa while visiting and I saw a fellow guard member in Nashville when going to see the quarterfinals in the theater, she was up visiting then and came to see the show. Nothing out of the ordinary but it was weird seeing them over 10-12 years later and finding out what they're doing now.
  12. No, the corps pays the fuel, even on chartered busses. They pay a rental for the time they need the busses and the rental company covers any repair costs but the corps pays the fuel out of pocket.
  13. It goes to the corps but not the full amount. Don't know the percentage but some of it has to go towards the service being offered by DCI. I know for popular music artists, they get about 75% of downloadable purchased songs from like iTunes. I'm sure it's the same with DCI and the APDs.
  14. I gave to Memphis because they are in my home state but I think I'm gonna take out some cash to give at the souvie stands for the show tomorrow night at MTSU for any corps that has a bucket for fuel. I can only do about $20 per corps but like stated earlier, ever little bit helps!
  15. Frank Kenny Wilson... aka: Ginger from Marilyn Manson played in a drum corps for three years. Stumbled upon it while doing some research. How weird!
  16. His bio never says but it was while he was in Rochester so it makes sense he would have marched with the Crusaders. Chuck Mangione also marched as well with who Gadd played with. I think Chuck marched with the Muchachos or Americanos I think, can't remember.
  17. Dale Baker... marched with Sky Ryders? Well Sixpence is originally from Texas but I can't see that. He's definitely a good drummer but can't imagine him in drum corps. But I guess it's possible.
  18. http://madisonscouts.org/common/mdbca_cont...s=madisonscouts It does look like they will be somewhere in Missouri, St Louis possibly.
  19. As it looks now with a few movements of my own, here's what I think: 1. Cadets 2. Cavies 3. BD 4. PR 5. Scouts 6. Bluecoats 7. SCV 8. Boston 9. Crown 10. Blue Knights 11. Spirit 12. Crossmen 13. Glassmen 14. Colts 15. Mandarins 16. Seattle 17. Southwind
  20. True, remember, they were 4th at Quarterfinals and won in 96... the biggest jump ever to win a title... is that correct? I think so but someone else can correct that. However, anyone can agree, to go from 4th to win in three performaces is pretty dang good and shows "on any given... Saturday" anything can happen!
  21. I agree with you, I love it too, I drive everyone crazy around me when the season rolls around. But I have to say, the changes taking place are making it less appealing. I just got my 2003 cds and I swear it sounds like half the corps' are playing. The loudest being PR and Madison! So it's not only amplification but the change to Bb horns. At times, the pit and battery are overpowering the horns! I was there in Orlando at finals and i thought then that the horns sounded weak but my feeling was confirmed by hearing the cds. I thought the same at 2004 finals but I don't plan on getting those cds. I just want to feel the goosebumps I use to get when I got my hair blown back by a hornline, that hasn't happened in quite a while... probably since 97! I just think corps are putting shows on the field that are interesting but are mostly filled with allot of new and innovative gimmicks, but have no bearing on the show or the crowd's appeal. Again, listening to cds, I got bored real quick. I remember the shows being interesting visually but are not much to listen to. Where as before, I would get the same feeling listening to the music as I did watching the videos... it's just no longer that way. Is this making sense? I just think that the changes with switching to Bb horns and now with the addition to ampls, corps seem to be more concerned with being innovative and pleasing the judges than appealing to the crowds. Jut my opinion.
  22. So far I've looked up Cadets, Madison and Phantom's schedule and they're all dues in Thursday morning and will be rehearsing that afternoon and evening. I live only a couple of miles from where PR will be so I will venture over there sometime Thursday and also visit Cadets in M'boro that evening.
  23. I would love to hear Concierto de Aranjuez, Allegro con Spirito to be specific by Joaquin Rodrigo. Could hear Phantom, SCV or even Madison doing this one. Spanish guitar flavor!
  24. suprised no one has done anything from Lord of the Rings yet but think that would make an intersting production. Some good music on that soundtrack anyway! Shore outdid himself on those tracks!
  25. I remember the narrow stairwells and the boiler room. Also the cafateria/auditorium/gym was interesting to see. That school had to be built in the middle 1800's, do you know when it was built? Would like to visit again sometime.
