  1. So, hello, I'm an alto sax player in marching band. My band is rather small and has very little funding from the school (enough to pay for buses to transport us and our instruments to games and such). We only have 2 low brass players, the first being a trombone and the second being (not a brass though) a baritone saxophone. I've been fond of low brass since I discovered DCI on youtube and since our band is lacking in that area I decided to take on switching from alto sax to either euphonium, baritone, or tuba. Problem is we don't have any marching euphoniums, baritones or tubas. We do, however
  2. So does anyone know why Spirit of Atlanta decided to switch to Kanstul brass instruments instead of Yamaha? I haven't heard whether Kanstul instruments are better, but I have heard it was because SOA got a sponsorship from Kanstul. I'm probably wrong but still... any ideas?
  3. BUILD IT AND THEY WILL COME!!! First load of world series astroturf has arrived Help support the corps as we move towards our new home
  4. So does anyone know why Spirit of Atlanta decided to switch to Kanstul brass from Yamaha? I had heard it was because of sponsorship but I'm not sure... Any ideas?
  5. Freedom DBC in OKC is still looking for members in each caption except drumline. We are competing as an exhibition corps this summer and we will perform regionally. Contact me at for details.
  6. The Standish Guards of Plymouth, MA is looking for a volunteer brass instructor to help us build our horn line this summer. This could turn into a permanent paid position in the future. We have a competitive percussion ensemble that has been very active the past 5 years and there are a number of local horn players waiting in the wings. Lots of new ideas just waiting to be tried and we are very open to new things. Charts and instruments available with more on the way. Currently competing in DCA, BHoF and now with SDCA. Easy and fun with a low weekly commitment. Help us bring a full corps to Ply
  7. Memorial Day Weekend Camp Here we go! It is time to start putting the show on the field. This weekend is our 3 day Memorial Day Camp, there will be new music and drill. This is not a sleep over camp, but each day will have a full schedule. Check in is 9am each day by the truck at Cabrillo Beach Youth Center and rehearsals will be just down the street at 22nd Street Park. Below are all the details. We are still accepting applications for membership in the corps. Please visit the membership page on our website, or email to request more information. Locati
  8. Since we've had electronics and amplification around for several years, let's discuss it's use in 2014 shows and how effective it was. I figure we can catagorize it in the following uses: Amplifying / Altering traditional DCI accoustic sounds (brass, battery, pic) Amplifying / Altering live voice Use of prerecorded voice Use of prerecorded sound effects Use of synthesized traditional non-DCI instruments (piano, guitar, organ) Use of other traditional synth sounds (bass, synth strings) Any other uses?
  9. After reading through the 2015 predictions thread I've noticed that not many people are counting on the Bluecoats to be top 3 or even win DCI this year. I'm just curious as to why this is? It looks as if the Bluecoats have the same exact staff this year. You would think they would be better than they were last year. After hearing rumors about the show I honestly hope they are true. And also after seeing a video of them in January marching, they look like they have a whole lot stronger visual program this year.. Anyone care to explain?
  10. If you live in the southern California and want to march drum corps this summer. City Sound has a few brass spots left that need to be filled by Memorial Day camp. If interested visit our website and fill out an interest form and show up to our Memorial Day rehearsal. We have several scholarships available to assist with fees.
  11. Murphy, Juwan Carolina Crown, Baritone Hello, I'm new to this community but my name is Juwan Murphy and I am currently a sophomore music performance and education major at the University of Central Florida with my focus on trombone. I started with music early with the piano in elementary school and in middle school joined the band in 7th grade and have been playing trombone since then. Ever since I started high school I have been intrigued by drum corp. The amount of talent and dedication that must of went in to achieve the feats that some did to me was incredible. As I started to get more i
  12. Hello, my name is Alexis Macy. I have been contracted to march baritone with the Sacramento Mandarins for their 2015 season. This is a major dream come true for me because I have always wanted to march with a corps, but I never though I could because Im primarily a flute player. I had taught myself baritone (I have been playing for about 9 months now) and I never thought I wouldve been good enough. But now I have been contracted and I have the chance to live my dream. However, there are a lot of fees associated with drum corps. My tour fees plus round trip flight for April is $1600. I am in de
  13. I have been looking for a mouthpiece for a little bit now and was wondering the differences between a DEG 6V and a Kanstul M6, which is what i have and am used to but is damaged and ugly because it's from a school horn. the DEG I've heard is great but i was just wondering the tone differences and if I'd have to get used to it. (please no other recommendations, i am asking about the DEG only, not "but this one's better" type thing).
  14. Thank you to everyone who came to our Open House on March 1st!! We had a great turn out and are excited about the potential of this year's corps!
