Wadep66
Insecurity. Most people base a lot of their pride on being right or their favorite team/corp/athelete winning. It is very gracious to admire and applaud the opposing team for what they do and their accomplishments, but most can't get past the idea that ths makes them less committed to something or maybe indicates that their choice isn't strong. Case in point: When I was in high school, I was at a Vanderbilt vs. Alabama football game. Bear Bryant walks into the stadium. The Vanderbilt fans give him a standing ovation, as he is probably the greatest NCAA coach in history. Alabama whips Vandy like crazy. Same thing happens at the University of Tennessee, except that the crowd boos Bear Bryant when he walks in. You do the math.
MikeD
its also more beneficial to the activity if everyone praises everything there is no improvement You give these commets waaaay too much credit.
MikeD
With regards to the whole Cadets thing, I feel many people feel it marks a significant departure (present company included) on what makes drum corps so great...hence all the criticism. Which is why the criticism will never have weight overall..it's usually wrong.
Russellrks
So you're saying it's not easy to be a critic? I was actually agreeing with you. I went back and tried to fix it. Sorry for the confusion. The last line was just a saying that I thought was appropriate for the topic.
