Six Degrees of Malaguena

Recommended Posts

Since Malaguena seems to be one of the most widely used songs in drum corps (right?), I figured why not try to connect obscure song to it? The songs must be played in the same show to form a chain.

Example: Kashmir to Malaguena

1. Kashmir (Madison 07)

2. Agnus Dei (Madsion 07 and Cadets 1983)

3. Rocky Point Holiday (Cadets 1983 and Cadets 2003)

4. Malaguena (Cadets 2003)

Anyone else have some crazy connections?

Edit: A misspell of Malaguena.

Like this?

West Side Story

Madison 77; Bridgemen 81; Garfield 84; BD 97; Kavaliers 04?

PS - if you have to go to Corpsreps.com it is a 2.0 penalty

PPS - OK now that I re-read it I guess I missed the idea, but I still think there should be a corpsreps penalty

Try this on for size...Malagueña to William Tell Overture!

1. Malagueña from Velvet Knights 1988, which also featured

2. America the Beautiful from Velvet Knights 1988 and Boston 1996, which also featured

3. Grover's Corner (from Our Town) from Boston 1996 and Santa Clara 1985, which also featured

4. Red Pony, from Santa Clara 1985 and Crown 2007, which also featured

5. William Tell Overture

So that's four degrees between the two.

Can someone find the shortest link between West Side Story and Jupiter from the Planets? ^0^

1. 1972 DesPlaines Vanguard played both "Jupiter" and a medley from "West Side Story." Bzzzzzzzzzzzzt...game over.

Fine then. Try to go from the Cavies' 2006 opener to Vanguard's 2006 closer!

Just kidding. What about American Overture for Band to Short Ride in a Fast Machine?

The first one is tricky because it's an original Saucedo piece, as is SCV's closer from that year, an original Poulan piece. So, let's see if anyone has an idea how to handle that.

As for "American Overture for Band" to "Short Ride in a Fast Machine"...

Phantom Regiment 1975: "American Overture for Band" and "Hungarian Dance No. 5"

Velvet Knights 1992: "Hungarian Dance No. 2"

Velvet Knights 1990: "The Summer of '42"

Bridgemen 1973: "The Summer of '42" and "William Tell Overture"

The Cadets 2004: "William Tell Overture" (Instant Encore during Tour of Champions)

The Cadets 1991: "Short Ride in a Fast Machine"

Just kidding.

Cavaliers 2006: "The Machine Age" with Jim Casella (Ex-Caption Head of SCV)

Cavaliers 1998 : "Machine" with Brian Mason (Current Caption Head of SCV)

SCV 2006: "The Speed of Sight" (Caption Head Brian Mason of SCV)

Beat that. B)
