sday88
With all the talk here about various corps visual programs/problems, what exactly does the visual caption consist of? What all is judged to come up with the "visual" score? I know that the guard is a big part of it, but I actually thought that was pretty much it. No? Being a Bluecoats alum, and all the talk here recently about their visual "problems", I have to ask what all goes into the visual score. How does it differ from the GE score? What makes one corps' visual score better than another's? Did we not have visual scores back in the '80s when I marched like they do today? Just a little confused. dbc03
The visual score is broken down into 3 parts Visual Performance - Individual marching technique judged from the field Visual Ensemble - How clean the drill is Color Guard - self explanatory. Visual GE is about how effective the drill and color guard are.

The only thing I would add would be that Vis Ens (as far as I understand it) is difficulty + cleanliness
Guard-ian
Ensemble Visual - The judge is to evaluate the skill of the writing team through the composing process. Evaluate the overall skill of the performers through their ACHIEVEMENT, which measures their ability to perform the responsibilities not only of the visual but also in combination with their musical responsibilities. rmurrey74
The visual score is broken down into 3 partsVisual Performance - Individual marching technique judged from the field Visual Ensemble - How clean the drill is Color Guard - self explanatory. Visual GE is about how effective the drill and color guard are. Visual Performance is more than just technique. It is technique and excellence on the field level. It covers form control, space, etc. This includes the color guard technique, timing, lower body, drill. It also accounts for written vocabulary and demand. Visual Ensemble is half composition and half excellence. Visual GE is how effective the program is visually and also includes the visual musicality of what is written. Music can affect the Visual GE caption. Performance is also a sub caption. Edited August 30, 2007 by rmurrey74

Oh and to clarify, starting this year, visual performance was judged from the stands until July. Then the judges moved to the field. All three can vary depending on the judges background. Sometimes it's extremely color guard design/excellence heavy. Sometimes it's not.
dbc03
I was really just trying to give a basic idea of what was judged by each caption :P
