Fastone
Me too. But they don't scurry either.Well, I've always been in real drum and bugle corps - so I can't say I've ever scurried. Although the last few drills I marched they were pushing for a scurry, but only got real big, quick steps - more like a hurry than a scurry. As a member of the Buccaneers you've probably marched some Ralph Pace drills which were quite complex at the time and frankly the beginnings of what you see today. As a drummer, I have gone from the days of squad, flank and to the rear marches where we stayed around the fifty like it was our job to literally touching all parts of the field motoring and yes Jazz Running into my late 40's at times at very quick tempos so I lived through the progression, my point is as far as I'm concerned, it's still Real Drum Corps. I remember back in the early eighties people I marched with in junior corps in the sixties complaining about how things had changed. I draw the line with narration, amps and woodwinds but other than that, it's all good. btw, we've gotten way off topic haven't we (lol). To me, closer roots to the military tradition is real drum and bugle corps and that happens to be where I draw the line. I have no quarrel with those that use the descriptive term, "drum corps", for what is done now, but it's not totally accurate - to me. However, I acknowledge the pro/re-gression of the activity into a more band-like entity. Bearing in mind the military roots of drum corps, I wonder what would be a commander's reaction to his troops scurrying past him, sidestepping all the way, in review. "But commander, they're still your troops." "It's all good, isn't it?" :P Lastly, me? Pull a thread off topic? Nah, never happens. b**bs
