Iplaytimpani
Hasn't Kevin Ford been marching/designing/teaching in the drum activity for over 30 years? If anything, I imagine he took his DCI experience to Tarpon Springs which helped him build that program. So, when Tarpon Springs performed the show about running a marathon in 2006, does that mean that Crown "took" (See above) that idea of a race and created Triple Crown in 2007? No, I doubt it! Sometimes, seeing an idea sparks another. Simple as that. If you want to start figuring out who has "copied" who throughout DCI's history, then get some paper and pencils handy...I prefer to look at it influencing! Actually, I'm not eluding to CC's 2007 show. I'm talking about some of Boston's earlier 2000 shows that were nearly exact lifts from Tarpon Marching band and Winterguard shows. I know often times high school ideas are expanded on and became bigger and better shows for DCI and WGI groups. I just think the whole Tarpon thing is getting a little exhausted is all. CorpsLife
Sounds like sour grapes to me. Kevin Ford did great things for Boston, yes? I have no sour grapes towards anybody. If you knew me, you would know that. Kevin didn't work for Boston much. IN fact he didnt work there any of the years I marched. I know Kevin from working in Pinellas County Bands. CorpsLife
Ah, the Tarpon Springs track show of 2006. I remember sitting in the back stands of the first competition of the year that fall and not being able to see much of anything because of their props. The runner was pretty awesome though. I think most of us in the stands (i.e. the band I was working with and the parents) were paying attention to the runner more than the actual show. Oh, and I agree. I don't think Ford took that idea from Tarpon and came up with Crown's show for 2007. What band were you working with?
CorpsLife
Let me also just say that I really hope that the Blue Stars perform their socks off and have an awesome season. I hope no ill will upon the corps. Ive had a few friends march with them and I do enjoy them. My opinion of the concept is that it is just to soon and will probably see some likeness to the Crown show and have a Tarpon Flavor to it. I have seen a lot of shows in my time that had a Tarpon flavor to it and liked them. Look at my avatar, I marched at Boston. 04,05,06 were great shows, with a Tarpon Flavor. As far as hard feelings, I dont have any. I dont hate anyone. Even though these cats are gone, I know Boston has a great show planned. Im Not worried. Good Luck Blue Stars. You have some more great staff additions. Maybe with your talent and design, you can get that top 12 spot this year. I hope you do.
Meaghatron
What band were you working with? A small 1A private school.
corpssaavy
Kevin didn't work for Boston much. From what little I know, he wrote the drill 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2007 right? I could be wrong.
corps8294
Whatever happened to the good ol' days of when drum corps were the show innovators and marching bands copied from them? Whatever happened to the good ol' days of when drum corps wouldn't create or emulate another corps program from the year previous or some years back? Just thoughts to ponder, gang. Regardless, kick some a** this summer Blue Stars! FCO!
corpssaavy
I HIGHLY doubt the Blue Stars show will even remotely resemble Crown 07, but I guess we'll see this summer. I'm sure they thought about this before they made the decision to do a show about the Tour de France.
SACMellos2010
The brass sections may have a similar sound to each other as they will be using the same technique and approach....
BozzlyB
The brass sections may have a similar sound to each other as they will be using the same technique and approach.... ...and that can only be a good thing. Crown = one of top 3 best sounding brass lines in DCI IMO.
