  1. 1. Will the postponement of their first tryout camp to Jan. 30 - Feb. 1 hurt the Colts chances at DCI in August?

I don't know if a corps has ever started this late, but they might get lucky. Is is possible that they will have large numbers turning out, mostly made up of kids cut from other corps or even kids that didn't decide to march until after the new year? With the Colts you still have time to make the first camp and be evaluated along with everyone else, most other corps will be well under way in the audition process by then.

It all depends on how productive they normally are during the winter. A lot of corps just aren't productive in the winter for reasons discussed in another thread. But this weather stuff proves that the way things are done pre-move in need to change.

Good luck to the Colts

I think they will be fine though.

I hope you are right. The last corps I remember pushing their tryout camp out this far did not fair too well....

Remember also that the Colts are adding a camp to their schedule to make up for the lost time with this camp. Plenty of time for potential members to get in and show their stuff in Dubuque.

Show design will trump the two-month time difference. It's just more important.

I think it's more that good show design will allow the staff and members to make up for the time difference. It allows the staff to instruct better and allows the members to learn the show quicker and perform it better.

That said, it's still up to the staff and members to "hit the ground running" and put in the effort necessary to get the momentum the show needs to be ready in time for June. Good show design or not, a slow start creates quite the uphill battle come move-in time.

This could be a very bad idea. Some students out there may audition for another corps and leave the Colts "late" as a back plan. I don't mean everyone, but some will do this. That means there could be a possibility that higher level talent may go else where.

Also, can the Colts achieve more, with everyone's cuts?

I know this may not happen, but I'm just thinking outside the box.

While talent is a factor, it is not the only one. I also get the feeling that anybody who is auditioning for another corps will do so regardless of whether or not they were going to be at the Colts December camp. It's not like the corps is folding or their season is up in the air, it's just a delay.
