WOW @ SCV's 94, Corona's 92, and Flanagan's 91

Every year is a new year, so I dont understand why people must compare 2009 shows with the year before?

I truthfully believe that there is going to be a race for the gold with all three Flanagan, Logan, and Avon definitley, hands down; however we can't forget about Carmel or Warren who are also up there. You never know.

I can't 'predict' a place for either of them to place in, though. All of them have great shows, some have more flaws than others, but avon and flanagan are the ones that will be bumping heads in my opinion. I really think everything with Logan right now is just in their name, since they are the 'dynasty.' Well Avon definitley is putting up a huge fight because those girls and one guy really want it this year! They definitley have the best in the clarity of their show. Flanagan doe seem a bit rushed in like two parts, but i still love the show, it gives it a blood rushing feeling to it. i must say, if you are saying their past shows are similiar, tell me how this year is similar to 'postsecret', 'on this team', 'world war 2' and/or 'this is my moment' other then them having a meaning to it? It is the only show that has touched me emotionally when I watched them between the three guards. They are also the only guard of the three that had a standing ovation at their latest show if you didn't notice on fannetwork. Logan, on the other hand. I just don't understand what is going on in the show. The only two things that are clear to me are how the 'people' are coming out of the ground and the sacrifice, other moments however, seem a bit ridiculous; such as the frog and kangaroo moment. But I wish all three of them luck and hope they put on a show, because it is gonna be TIGHT.

Besides, I jsut wanted to also mention another guard that touched me in SW which is Freedom guard. I've seen their show twice, live, now, and its amazing how far they've come from the beginning. I'm so amazed how they are doing so well in their first year in SW and I must say congrats.

Other guards, I can't be so amazed with unfortunatley. I'm not gonna say any names; they know who they are

*sorry if im not making sence. im not trying to prove any points, jsut putting out opiniong  *

Neither do I. Truth be told since Flanagan is the 2008 Scholastic World Champions they must have done something right last year .... in burgundy. I hear Flanagans critics say their shows are the same more or less every year, etc. What would they like to see Flanagan do differently .... a show about a rodeo complete with rodeo clowns, a show about Barry Manilow music ... they could reenact Copacabana, or how about a show based on High School Musical, a Braddock 'booty' show (which I love!!), no flag feature, a flamenco show, no diagonals, firedancing? Thank God judges don't hold having an identity or signature style against anybody ... otherwise Finals would be reduced to a 30 minute event.

I

As a designer I want to make a show for the audience that is enhanced by judges comments and frankly, from what I've heard

people are bored with formulaic (not the F word!) shows from Flanagan, just like they were bored with Logans formula through the Chandler years (with the exception that Logan had better ideas within their formula as the medals will show). Take away the voice overs and voila, almost the same elements.

Signature and style should come through the equipment, not through the same design formula that they are afraid to venture from.

I am no longer entertained with a Flanagan show, it feels forced and blah. I want a show that takes me by surprise not one I already can guess

half the things that are going to happen before I see it.

I think when people say that Flanagan is the same every year, they're referring to the fast paced "in your face" approach that they've had since their promotion to SW class vs. teams that have completely different styles from year to year like Avon (Carpe Diem/Madonna/"Which is Witch"), Fantasia ("Vanishing Act"/rock show/snow flake show), Logan (Bjork/Great Wall/Dreamtime) or Pride ("Sideshow"/"Everybody Hurts"/"What's Left").

Of course, there is a risk involved with trying new things, but that's what keeps things interesting for a lot of people. While there is nothing necessarily "wrong" with creating an identity and more or less sticking to it, one can argue that sticking to a certain style is "safer" than exploring different approaches.

Exactly, designers want the gold with none of the risk. Good luck with that designers, it's not going to happen.

there is a post about James Logans show a couple pages back, it explains the theme of the show if you don't understand it. Quick breakdown though its about one of the first peoples to inhabit earth...the aborginals (if you couldn't tell by the music) and their connection to earth and all that good stuff. As for the ending of their show that confused you its a dream sequence ( hence the tittle of their show)...you can see a member of their team laying down on the ground with blanket pretending to sleep and thats when all the props come out.

Ok so I hardly post on here, however its eating me up inside. Being from the west coast and being a huge fan of Logan. I do have to say its a new life for WGI. Logan has lost some of its momentum, although those kids do work there behinds up to keep up with great performances and keep the Logan history going. I do have to respond to a person on here. PrfctTimeofDay.... its just seems as though you constantly post the same negative messages about Flanagan, even going back to postings about Post Secrets. I am sure those kids are working there behinds of just as Logan and Avon are. They must be doing something right for being in the top, for such a young group. Everyone has a right to like and dislike a group, however it just seems odd that you only have negatives about Flanagan. With that said, I wish all the groups lots of great wishes in Dayton. Its going to be a great fight to the end.

so are some of these peopel saying that flanagan isn't taking risks just because they aren't changing up their style!?

well this is a bit rediculous, saying they should change the way they work and design shows.

I mean tellnig flanagan to not 'be in your face' and just do some sort of

'new entertaining change?' You should realize it doesn't work that way. Telling flanagan to basically

not be 'in your face' is liek telling Logan to have an all girl rifleline or Avon to perform to Hip hop.

things liek that dont happen.

Yeah actually, Flanagan isn't taking any new risks as far as program design goes. They are sticking to what they know gets a good score

rather than providing a different show for the enjoyment of the audience. I am sure some people are just as bored with it by now

as I am.
