Medalist Statistics Redux

Recommended Posts

SkyRyder86 put together a list of medalist (1, 2, or 3) finishes for junior corps.

Don't know if anyone's ever done the same for DCA?

I'm adding a "power index" column that weights 1st place finishes with 3 points, 2nd place with 2, and 3rd with 1.

Corps (First, Second, Third, Total, Power Index)

01. Caballeros (9, 13, 9, 31, 62)

02. Buccaneers (8, 7, 9, 24, 47)

03. Empire Statesmen (5, 6, 6, 17, 33)

04. Sunrisers (6, 3, 3, 12, 27)

05. Bushwackers (6, 0, 6, 12, 24)

06. Brigadiers (5, 3, 1, 9, 22)

07T Hurricanes (3, 2, 4, 9, 17)

07T Skyliners (3, 2, 4, 9, 17)

09. Westshoremen (1, 2, 0, 3, 7)

10. Yankee Rebels (0, 2, 1, 3, 5)

11T Steel City (0, 1, 0, 1, 2)

11T Minnesota Brass (0, 1, 0, 1, 2)

13. Rochester Crusaders (0, 0, 1, 1, 1)

It's pretty clear (as if anyone didn't know) that the Caballeros have the greatest history of DCA domination, followed by the Buccaneers, and the Statesmen.

Sunrisers, Bushwackers, and Brigadiers are clumped together fairly closely (5 points apart, vs. 6 points b/w Empire and Sun).

Sky and Hurcs are tied for the next clump.

I'm going to re-check the numbers. Feel free to check as well.

looks interesting and probably an accurate perception of reality

I'm fuzzy on how you arrived at the last number... explain that if you would

3 times the number of 1st place finishes +

2 times the number of 2nd place finishes +

1 times the number of 3rd place finishes

It would be interesting to see this for Class A, as well. Of course numbers would be off by corps like Govies, as they have remained in Class A, regardless of their success - groups like CV and Alliance moving out after they won the championship.

Yeah, I don't think doing it for DCA's Class A would make much sense.

The class has only existed for 12 years, and of the 13 winners, only 3 repeated (Skyliners, Heat Wave, Generations)....and none of the three is still active!

It might be more instructive to look at how many corps in class A have managed to exist the longest.

By that standard, no one can touch the Govenaires -- even though they've only won one championship.

I'll give it a shot anyway:

01. Heat Wave (2, 4, 0, 6, 14)

02. Govenaires (1, 3, 0, 4, 9)

03. Generations (2, 0, 1, 1, 7)

04T Sunrisers (1, 1, 1, 3, 6)

04T Skyliners (2, 0, 0, 2, 6)

06. CorpsVets (1, 1, 0, 2, 5)

07T Alliance (1, 0, 1, 2, 4)

07T Chops, Inc (1, 0, 1, 2, 4)

09T Grenadiers (1, 0, 0, 1, 3)

09T Chieftains (1, 0, 0, 1, 3)

11T Fusion Core (0, 1, 0, 1, 2)

11T SoCal Dream (0, 0, 2, 2, 2)

11T White Sabers (0, 1, 0, 1, 2)

13T Shenandoah Sound (0, 0, 1, 1, 1)

13T Carolina Gold (0, 0, 1, 1, 1)

13T Allegheny Nightstorm (0, 0, 1, 1, 1)

13T Bayou City Blues (0, 0, 1, 1, 1)

13T Les Dynamiques (0, 0, 1, 1, 1)

13T Grey Knights (0, 0, 1, 1, 1)

Hm. That was interesting after all.

Yup, but you did it more accurately, I think :) I had to make a correction or two

fun as class A is to look at... it's relative youth and the problem with dealing with corps going back and forth between Class A and open makes it difficult to get a clear picture where in Open frankly it looks pretty correct... hard to argue...

I don't know. I think you could (for its short time) argue that the Govenaires are the greatest Class A corps (competitively) still in existence, and that Heat Wave is the best in the class' existence. Those look about right. Obviously, the groups that have one are towards the top of the heap... and rightfully so. The only downside to the comparison is that some are no longer active and others (CV and Alliance) are now in Open Class... wasn't MCL also Class A at one point?

Yes, MCL was class A in 2005, but they got 4th, so no points.
