Mandrig
Correct me if I'm wrong: 1. The American flag should be the center flag when multiple flags are present. -- Example: The Cavaliers had the flag of the City of Rosemont in the center. 2. Weapons should face away from the American flag. -- Example: A couple corps (Blue Knights sticks out in my mind) had a rifle or a rifle and a sabre pointing towards the American flag. 3. For retreat, shouldn't each corps present Colors? -- Example: Crown didn't present the American flag. Just curious as to the proper etiquette concerning Color Guards. MagicBobert
1. The American flag should be the center flag when multiple flags are present. -- Example: The Cavaliers had the flag of the City of Rosemont in the center. Two options, either: 1) Displayed higher than other flags (which is why you see other flags lowered at an angle usually). 2) When displayed at equal heights, it should be either in front of other flags or furthest to its own right. (To clarify, the flag may be displayed in the center, but only if it is in front of all other flags.) Hooray for being an Eagle Scout! 2. Weapons should face away from the American flag. -- Example: A couple corps (Blue Knights sticks out in my mind) had a rifle or a rifle and a sabre pointing towards the American flag. Actually, not sure about this one. We never did flag ceremonies where weapons were present. (EDIT: Done some more research on this. I can't find anything regarding weapons and flag ceremonies.) 3. For retreat, shouldn't each corps present Colors? -- Example: Crown didn't present the American flag. Not sure on this one either. I think it's a matter of preference. Most corps choose to display the colors, though. Somebody didn't get the memo to any of these color guard members representing all branches of the military: ' 2. Kind of difficult for people doing rifle manual. 3. For retreat, shouldn't each corps present Colors? -- Example: Crown didn't present the American flag. Just curious as to the proper etiquette concerning Color Guards. And I'm pretty sure there's no regulation in flag code for anything like #3 says. No idea about what DCI requires. That would be difficult
TomVV
According to the US flag code, The American flag should always be to the right. Cavaliers were correct. Blue Devils were not. They had the California flag on the right marching in. They should have known better, Weapon facing is optional. There is no requirement for an American flag at retreat, but I was glad to almost every corps with an American flag. You may resume your normal lives now. ---tom Edited August 9, 2009 by TomVV
MagicBobert
Somebody didn't get the memo to any of these color guard members representing all branches of the military:' Nope, those guys are absolutely correct Lance. The American flag is on it's own right, and it's higher than any other flags. They're covering both their bases! According to the US flag code, The American flag should always be to the right. Cavaliers were correct. Blue Devils were not. They had the California flag on the right marching in. They should have known better, It depends. Did the Devils have in in front of or higher than the CA flag? If so then they were fine and it doesn't matter that it wasn't on the right. (Not trying to sound pushy, I wasn't there so I don't know.) It would be a shame if they had gotten it wrong. Lance
I know. I was kidding. I was in the Marines and stuff, and did about 1000 ceremonies.

Oh sweet, very nice, and thank you for your service. Sorry, my computer's sarcasm detector ran out of batteries this morning. It's been a tough day on the intertubes for me.
