A wish for the Madison Scouts

Recommended Posts

I hope with all the great things taking place with Madison,

that they bring back another grand tradition...entering the field

in that famous company front. Can you imagine what impact that

would have visually with spats (provided they have perfect feet)?

It would truly be a show before the show as Michael Cesario used to say!

Yes please!

Why did they stop in the first place?

Well I think the last time they entered the field

in that manner was 2002 when Scott Stewart was still

the Corps Director. Maybe in 2003, Sal Salas (and Jeff Spanos after him)

wanted to move in a distinctly different direction from the "Scott era"

and felt doing that move would be too similar. That's pure

speculation on my part, but whatever the reason, I think now would

be a perfect time to bring it back.

I will respectfully disagree. If the past 10 or 12 years show us anything, it is that Madison can't orient its every decision around the past.

Because 1995-1999 was so terrible? Those were Scouts' best years IMO.

Nevermind...I misread. Sorry!

But, if they DID go back to that style, I think they would still fare well.

Oops. Yup, you're right...my memory is fading. I really

liked how the percussion kicked off that show.

Good point. Too many things from the past could be seen

as living in the past or could become cliche. But I still feel like that company front entrance

is an exception because it never failed to get the crowd hyped

up and it really set the mood for whatever show they were doing.

If they choose to bring that company front back I guarantee it would have a lot of folks on their feet. I'd be one of them.

It's a great nod to history and tradition without feeling like they've shoehorned some old chestnut into their contemporary program. The Cadets still enter the field in their traditional block formation and in my opinion it lends something to their identity and presence.
